in the middle of script, i need to send the output of (send command on line 8) to a file
#!/usr/bin/expect
spawn telnet 172.20.64.133
expect "ENTER USERNAM <"
[cod]....
i treid the below on line 8 :
1- send "show command;
" > logfile.txt : gives an error extra character after the "
2- logsave logfile.txt 'send "show command;
" ': error invalid command
3- i simply tried to send the output of the whole script to file logsave /home/logfile ./script : seems that logsave work under root only
4- ./script > logfile : the problem with this is that the output of echo or (read "enter your id") command will not be displayed on the screen (actually nothing will be displayed, i have to open the log file to see the output). is there any way to save the log of the "send" ? or to save the log of the complete script without hiding the output on the screen?

Trying to sftp (get) a file, and am getting the following message:
spawn sftp -oPort=10022 jn000JN@sftp.section111.cms.hhs.gov Connecting to sftp.section111.cms.hhs.gov... The authenticity of host 'sftp.section111.cms.hhs.gov (204.76.173.42)' can't be established. DSA key fingerprint is 66:64:07:cc:39:89:56:2b:3b:4c:fd:cc:3d:2a:7a:9c. Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)?
Is this an issue with keys? Where are the keys on a sftp client stored? I am running this sftp script from a different directoy than normal if that matters.

I have inherited our Linux packaging and as the number of versions increase, the number of conflicts is starting to get a bit unmanageable. I believe the easiest way would have been to keep the package names the same and just change the release in the spec file but unfortunately I am past that as a lot of these packages are rolled out to our estate. (I am told there were reasons for not keeping the package name the same and incrementing the version/release)
Is it possible to wildcard conflicts so I don't need to keep adding as new versions are created. For example, instead of using all the conflicts below, have something along the lines of AAtest45* <= 1.4 & BBtest45* <= 1.4 Meaning that all I would need to do was change this to 1.5 at the next release (the packages below version matched the release in the spec file)

I am a Novell (now defunct) CNE tring to learn Linux and am having a lot of trouble finding out where the WB 6-6 is wrong in the syntax for adding local4... the the syslog-ng config file. In the instructions there are discrepancies between commas and simi-comma, they are both in the statements in no particular order. there is no pattern to them. Here is what the book shows:
filter f_local4debug { level(debug) and facility(local4); };
When I try to input this in the Gnome terminal window to try and find out where it goes wrong I get the following: -bash: syntax error near unexpected token "(" If I can get the correct syntax I belive I can use the info to get past the rest of this portion of the lesson. I am desperate to learn Linux as the only jobs out there for a Novell CNE are migrations to MS, which really sucks, since MS really really sucks.

As a Windows user, I generated a pair of DSA keys from CoreFTP Lite and sent it to a third party that runs an SFTP server. They told me that a valid DSA key needs to have ssh-dsa at the start and the username@systemname at the end. CoreFTP generated neither the ssh-dsa header nor the username@systemname footer. I tried with WinSCP and it didn't generate them either. Is there a difference between how SFTP works between Windows and Linux? If I put a useraccount@systemname at the end of the text will it work? How would the Linux system validate that my system is called "systemname"? If it can't validate, what is the purpose of adding it?

I need to send large files from a Linux machine to another using cryptography. The sender machine knows the recipient IP but not vice-versa. I don't need strong cryptography and prefer higher-speed less-secure solutions.
There are no problems with presharing crypto keys but I'd prefer not dealing with SSH users creation.
I think to HTTP PUT over TLS, but I never had experience with it and I prefer to hear which are the possible solutions. I know that it can listen as a daemon but I don't know anything about cryptography. So pipeing with OpenSSL may be a solution.

I've got a Debian Squeeze computer on which the graphics have packed up, but the terminal in single user mode work perfectly fine.
There are a few files on this Debian computer that I want to transfer off, to a networked computer, but I have no idea how to do this.
The destination computer is a freshly re-setup Mandriva install, without (as yet) samba. I don't think it's necessary though. The Mandriva install works fine, has graphics, etc, but can't see the Debian Squeeze computer on the network, possibly because it's in single user mode, thus prompting the problem of how to transfer the files, using only a command line.

I have been provided with a PPK file to connect to a remote server using SFTP. I've also been given a username and password. I created a user test and created a .ssh directory in their home directory. I've put the ppk file in here and renamed it id_rsa (though I'm pretty sure I'm not correct in doing so)
When I SFTP using sftp test@remoteserver.com I get prompted for the key password - which I don't know and am presuming is blank, so I just hit enter Then is prompts me for the user password which I give it. it falls down here. I used the -v option to see where it stops - which tells me: debug1: Trying private key: /home/test/id_rsa debug1: PEM_read_PrivateKey failed I presume this is because SFTP is expecting a .PEM key instead of a PPK?

i am working on some kind of PBX and i have list of telephone numbers inside a file, i have to insert these numbers into the correct command and then telnet to a remote server and execute these commands. i can read the telephone numbers and insert them into the command with no problem, but when i try to insert these commands into the send i face problem. here is the basic code
#!/bin/bash
read msisdn < input
string="ZZZZ:MSISDN=$msisdn;"
[code]....
i can make external loop inside the Bash which read the input file and issue the command and then telnet and execute, but this will make the script connects and disconnects again for each line which cause high load on that server and hardwar problem. i am wondering if there is an option inside the expect interperter which makes the send read directly from a file... somthing like this:
expect "<"
send "input-filename
"
expect "<"
expect eof

Code:

# Script de backup a travs de Rsync desde RMP-1 hasta RMP-2.

The Rsyn is working OK. What i need is to change one of the lines of the /tmp/prueba.txt before sending it to the remote machine (obviously not changing the file in the local machine), i mean, send prueba.txt to the remote machine deleting one line and adding another one...how can i do this?

Running: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5.2 (Tikanga) I need to be able to automate transferring a few files over from one server to another using scp or the sftp protocol. I have received a text file which looks like a key file along with username and passphrase information for the target server in question.
Instructions were given to me to import the provided text file in puttyGen then save the imported key as a private key to be used by scp or sftp. My assumption is this is for windows utilities, which I am not using. My frustration comes in trying to automate logging into this server via sftp or scp to automate some file transfers. I am asked for a password every time because the public and private key methods failed to find my keys. How can I call scp or the sftp utilities and use the provided key file (the one I generated using puttyGen or the original one provided to me) to login to this server? I've tried taking the generated ppk file from puttygen and adding it with the ssh-add command but that still did not work.
