Ubuntu Installation :: Mouse Not Working In Hyper-V?

Jan 23, 2010

I'm brand new to Ubuntu (or any flavor of Unix/Linux, for that matter). I installed it (9.10) into a VM in Hyper-V with aplomb. However, the mouse isn't working, so I'm getting good at using the keyboard shortcuts right off the bat.Anyhoo, I'd like to get the mouse working. I downloaded Hyper-V for Linux 1.0 (integration components), but I can't seem to get it installed. I attach to the ISO from my VM and the CD shows up in Ubuntu, but then what? I tried running the file, but nothing seemed to happen and my mouse still isn't working.

Ubuntu :: Compiz-Fusion - Turns To A Blank Screen Of White With A Mouse On It

Jan 6, 2010

Just installed Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit on my computer dual booting with 9.10 32bit. Was hoping to move to 64 bit to get full use out of my RAM and CPU. The issue is that when I tried to run Compiz-Fusion that I got from the Ubuntu software repos that came with 9.10 nothing would change. I tried to make a 4 desktop layout with a cube like I have on the 32 bit OS and nothing happens. So I right click on the Compiz icon and select the "reload windows manager" tap in the drop down menu and every time it turns to a blank screen of white with a mouse on it. I can move the mouse and I can even use some of the new settings I changed but I cant see anything else besides a mouse and the white screen. I feel as thou I am using a version of Compiz that is not compatible with 9.10 64 bit.

Debian Installation :: Install Lenny Via Hyper-V - Can Not Find My Network Card

Sep 15, 2010

I am trying to install Debian Lenny via Hyper-V. I get to the point where it asks for the network card. For some reason it can not find my network card. I have a RealTek (RTL8112L PCIe Gigabit LAN controller featuring AI NET 2 built on motherboard).

For some reason it doesn't see it. My issue is if I continue without the network how am I getting the drivers? Unfortunately Hyper-V doesn't support USB. I guess I can try to burn to CD but not looking to waste a cd for 480k and not sure that will work as I only see a and a couple other files under scr directory. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. This is a fairly new Motherboard/NIC so I do not understand why it isn't recognized. I know it cant have everything but Realtek is a fairly common nic.

I am looking for step-by-step guide to do so. I can go for any easy to work with Linux distribution , may be UBUNTU. But Hyper-V page says it officially supports only SUSE and REDHAT, others can be done on owner's risk.

I dont need future compatibility etc as yet, just need to do some experiments, so any distribution would be fine. FYI - I am trying BOINC installation and testing.

Debian Hardware :: Monitor Goes From White To Black To Rainbow?

Jul 25, 2011

I got a used Gateway Solo 9550 from a friend. It was running windows when I got it. So I decided to try to test Debian on it. I am relatively new to the Linux scene so I have had a few issues with no idea how to fix them. The biggest one is video. I can get it the laptop to boot up in recovery mode and have nomodeset enabled. With nomodeset in gnome it will work for approx. 20-30 seconds, and then the screen will turn white then to black and then slowly turn rainbow. I know that its not a monitor problem because I ran DSL and DSLN on the same rig, but when I plugin an external monitor its fine on the external but not on the internal.

Specs of the Solo 9550
1 GHz Pentium 3m Processor
512 MB of PC100 RAM

Ubuntu :: Ksoftirqd At 100% CPU On Hyper-V?

May 27, 2010

I installed 10.04 on a Hyper-V virtual machine and a few hours later discovered that the server was unusually sluggish. Top revealed that ksoftirqd was sucking up around 97% CPU. Reading up on the issue focused on earlier kernel issues, which I knew didn't apply to 10.04. I eventually discovered that I set two CPU cores in Hyper-V. Decreasing this to just one CPU solved the issue.

When I move the mouse and then press and release the 'ctrl' key to show where the mouse pointer is the circle indicators are not where the pointer is. Hardware :: Unable To Use Hyper Sensitive CD Tray

I have a SONY 52x DVD Writer in my Desktop. Initially it was okay.. For the past 2 months or so , the DVD tray is super sensitive.. When I press the "Eject" Button , it comes out and immediately the next second goes back in..Also I face great difficulty in loading a CD/DVD .The moment the DVD touches the tray , it sucks the tray back in.

As a result , I am not able to position the DVD, most of the time it gets stuck ..I cannot manually stop the tray from going in as I guess the spring for the tray will break.Should I replace the drive? Apart from this mechanical issue , the drive reads and writes properly.. I like Drives which have separate open and close buttons (not the ones which you push from the front)

Fedora Installation :: Installing Hyper-V Integration Services For F15

Aug 25, 2011

I installed Fedora 15 on Hyper-V (Windows host). I installed to disk, rebooted. Now I'm off to installing the Integration services, but I've got a few problems:
1) Since it is not yet installed, it looks like the network is not functional.
2) From what I can see, I need to have a couple of things installed beforehand (GCC amoung other things)

The problem is that when I did this previously with Virtualbox, I was able to install the pre-requisites with yum. Now this won't work as I have no network. I can't use VirtualBox here at work as we have everything else running under Hyper-V so have no choice but to go this way (VB and HV can't live together on the same host). it's just so much harder to go through this installation with Hyper-V.
