Ubuntu :: Edit Existing Right Click Menu With Nautilus Actions

Feb 26, 2011

I installed nautilus-actions in order to edit the right-click menu when I click on pictures. All tutorials I read deal with adding custom entries to the right-click menu. But what I want to do, is to edit the present nautilus right click menu. In particular, I have installed nautilus-batch-rename, which comes in english. I want to translate the right-click entry "Rename files..." to German, since my system language is German, too. I already managed to translate the batch-rename pop-up program entries after clicking "rename files..." by editing but I would love to translate "rename files..." as well.

General :: Bookmark Manager - Use Different Browsers

Aug 25, 2010

I am looking for a standalone bookmark management application as I need to use different browsers on occasion and don't want to store my bookmarks on one of the web based services.

Ideally this would be a server client type arrangement that would store my bookmarks on my server which I could connect to through a client, or an ncurses based application, that I can store, tag and sort my bookmarks on.

I am aware of Sitebar which offers their server software, however their plug-in is firefox, IE, and maxthon only at present. In an added complication there seems to be a conflict with one of my other firefox add-ons.

Ubuntu :: Delete Firefox Bookmark For Site No Longer Existing?

Sometimes a site gets a new URL, or simply is discontinued.

I notice this when opening a bookmark of mine.

So I wonder if there is a way to delete the corresponding bookmark entry? Without having to go to bookmark manager?

I am thinking of a pressing a button that does:

Delete any and all bookmarks to this domain.

Ubuntu :: Removing Item From Nautilus Places Menu - Not A Bookmark?

Aug 28, 2010

I was trying to install Sim City 4 Deluxe when somehow through my mounting an un-mounting of the two ISO's nautilus decided to make an entry in the places menu. I've searched through the forums and most of what I'm finding is how to remove things like the network and desktop items.

Here are three screenshots showing what I mean. Number one shows the entry I am talking about, specifically the SC4DELUXE1 entry. Number two shows that just right clicking and selecting remove like many threads suggest does not work here as it is grayed out. Lastly number three, this is the error I'm given when I left click the entry.

I finally figured out how to fix this. I simply went into the disk utility. Under peripheral devices the unwanted device was listed. Click the check file system button after selecting the device. It reports back that the file system is not clean and removes the device.

Ubuntu :: Make Nautilus As File Manager?

Dec 13, 2010

I have, in fact, stated my problem correctly. I want to make Nautilus as the default File Manager in KDE. I use GNOME on other computers, and don't like the feel of the KDE file manager on my PC. I looked online but most "solutions" are for the other way round and in either case, didn't work for me.

I tried changing the 'inode/directory' file association to Nautilus but it didn't change anything. What can I do ? (I have GNOME as a DE here too .. But I would like to know how to change the association in KDE as well)

Ubuntu :: Bookmark Manager - Merging Files Into Single Collection

Jun 2, 2011

During the past eight years I've used a number of computers with different operating systems and browsers. On each one I made a habit of using the bookmark utility of each browser and saving the bookmarks file. I never ensured the continuity of the bookmark file - with each new computer I started a new bookmark file. Even when I was reinstalling the operating system I didn't import the old bookmark file in the newly installed browser: I've always started a new bookmark file. As a result I have tens of bookmark files for Firefox (json format - some kind of xml?) and IE (html file format?) each one containing hundreds or thousands of saved links. I have also some files containing links in text format (created usually when I was using someone else computer).

I would like to be able to manage this bookmarks files by using some sort of "bookmark manager" software. The "bookmark manager" should be able to merge the bookmark files into a single collection/file. It should be able to identify and remove the duplicate entries (I have timely versions of the same bookmark file) and also it should be able to group the entries/links on categories (for example the bookmarked articles on should be grouped under the codeproject category). Not to mention that it should provide a search facility to quickly locate the interesting bookmarks. I couldn't find such software in ubuntu software center. Do you know something that even comes close to what I need?

Ubuntu :: Nautilus File Manager Looks Strange In Lucid

May 7, 2010

I need some restoring my Nautilus File Manager back to its original state. I tried installing Elementary Nautilus but for some reason it was not working for me, so I uninstalled it but have been having an issue with Nautilus looking like its former self. Now Nautilus doesn't display the "tree" on the left, there are no back/forward icons, and generally looking strange. Here's a picture to showcase my issue:

I would love to use Elementary Nautilus but can not get it as my default file manager. Since I can't do that I just want Nautilus (the one that comes shipped with Ubuntu) to look and act like it's supposed to.

Ubuntu :: Nautilus File Manager Very Slow With Folders With Many Files?

Jun 3, 2010

With Ubuntu 9.10 and 10.0.4 I have seen that the nautilus filemanager is extremely slow with folders that contains many files or/and folders.I made sure that "Assistive Technologies" is diable. On the filemanager preference I set all preview to "Never", tried all possible views, but the filemanager remains extremely slow. It seems like it becomes even slower when the subfolders in the folder you are viewing new files are being created by for example a program. Possibly nautilus filemanager is updating continuously ?

I use to be using debian etch nautilus file manager. With the same directories, nautilus in debain etch was working much faster. But contrary to the one in Ubuntu 9.10 and 10.0.4 is is far less stable. It seems like the newer version is more stable but however extremely much slower. I was wondering if I am missing something. Or whether this is a bug. If it is a bug, then I am wondering when this is going to be solved in nautlius filemanager.

How do you change between these two formats? My preference is for the first of these.

Ubuntu :: Unable To Access Network Shares From Nautilus File Manager

Oct 15, 2010

I'm running 64 bit Lucid on a HTPC that is networked with a Windows 7 64 bit laptop. Up until this morning, sharing media between these two worked fine. When I attempted to connect through Rhythmbox to play music, the computer couldn't find the files. I attempted to access the network through Nautilus and it was unable to mount the location. So I tried the Create Launcher command and created a link of the network on the desktop. I was prompted to login and it worked perfectly This has happened once before and the only way to fix it was to reinstall Ubuntu.I would very much like to avoid that if possible as the system is setup perfectly.

I wouldn't bother with the issue if it didn't prevent me from adding my music files to Rhythmbox. I have run findsmb as well as smbtree. Smbtree returned nothing and findsmb had a dotted line with nothing underneath. Nothing has been removed. I did install security updates this morning, but since it has happened before, I am more inclined to thing it is a bug or conflict somewhere.
