Debian Configuration :: WiFi Connection Stuck At (Setting Network Address)
Oct 9, 2015I have Debian 8.2 with KDE 4.14 and everything runs perfect, except for the internet connection. This problem happens randomly when I turn on my machine. Sometimes when the desktop loads, the connection is already settled.
But sometimes when the desktop loads, the wifi icon is still loading and keeps stuck at "setting network address". Since this problem happens randomly I really don't know what is happening here. My wifi chip is this:

I have 2 laptops:
1. Dell Inspiron 8600 with an intel 2200BG wifi card (Ubuntu 10.04)
2. Asus eeePC 1000 (Ubuntu 9.04)
Internet setup:
Laptop 1 connects to a 3G connection and shares it with laptop 2 using an ad-hoc network.
I upgraded to Lucid on Laptop 1. Prior to the upgrade everything was working. Now, when laptop 1 tries to connect to the ad-hoc network it almost immediately disconnects and tries to reconnect again.
Ad-hoc network settings:
The ad-hoc network uses a WEP key. In IPv4 settings, "Share to other computers" is selected.

Mar 25, 2011I have Squeeze running gnome well.It connect to my WFI AP automatically.I installed window maker yesterday .After I enter the window maker desktop, I found no internet connection.I run a network tool shortcut in th eapplication menu.This program is the same of my gnome desktop.I change the setting to make it automatically connect to my AP but in vain.

Jun 21, 2011I've a laptop which is connected to ethernet. I want to access internet from my N900 through wifi( available on Laptop). So i created adhoc network on laptop and connected my smart phone to it. But i still cannot access Internet from my phone. Where am I going wrong?? or is there another way to acces internet from my phone via laptop?
PS: I followed the procedure given in this link to create an adhoc network.

Sep 22, 2015The situation: The office has a WiFi network on one DSL line, which is used for our VoIP call center, and a wired network for our internal network and the majority of web surfing/traffic . Part of the office must be temperature controlled/monitored - we have a rather nice digital thermometer which is WiFi enabled.I have a Debian Wheezy box with a WiFi card and ethernet connection
What I'm trying to accomplish:Connect wifi enabled thermometer to WiFi network so it can automatically send temp updates (currently I have to do it manually via USB)Have the Wheezy box accept the downloaded file then send it to a back up server in the wired network
Side things that may be useful : Prefer to use wired connection for internet and apt and suchWiFi connection will really just be used for connecting to the thermometer
This [URL] .... topic got me thinking that there might be a way to bring the two networks together, but I don't know if that will wreak havoc on things. I know, the Windows and Mac OS don't like having ethernet and wifi at the same time, might Linux be better for this?

Sep 15, 2010the laptop disconnected from wifi and the network connection icon on the panel dissapeared... If i restart the laptop will automatically join the wifi nwtwork for a couple mintues and then will go offline.
Hiw can i get the network icon back at least to see it that fixes the problem....

May 29, 2011Wifi network operated perfectly with f13. Upgrading f13 to f14 did not show any problems except for networking. It seems that the wlan0-link is not ready. Consequently no network information about adresses can be obtained. Tried with network tools to activate wlan0. No reaction Tried to deactivate Networkmanager and bring network up with
service NetworkManager stop
ifconfig -a
Then
ifconfig wlan0 up
dhclient wlan0
No reaction on network. The NetworkManager icon disappears which is understandable.

Jan 22, 2011I have a strange problem that I cannot diagnose -- slow wifi. About two or three weeks ago, I noticed that my wifi began to slow down dramatically. The problem is the same on my ubuntu laptop and my ipad. But when I connect directly to the router with a network cable, my connection is fine. So it is definitely a problem with the wifi signal itself.
What I have done so far:
(1) I checked all of the MAC addresses connected to my wifi. I identified my tivo box, laptop, and ipad. Nothing else.
(2) I used [I]wifi analyzer[I] on my android phone and selected an unused wifi channel (channel 8).
(3) I changed the username/password on my wifi signal. I also changed the password for my router's admin privileges.
(4) I restarted my router and computer.
None of this helped.
I am using a Netgear WGR614 wireless router.

Feb 3, 2009I have 2 workstations that I'm trying to network together so that I can backup each to the other. One is XP sp2 and the other Fedora 9. Since installing Samba on the Fedora box and trying to get it configured, I have a problem that Add/remove programs won't do installs because it says there's no connection to a network. Network Manager says there aren't any connections, but it worked before the Samba install. Mozilla and Thunderbird can access the internet OK. Both workstations are connected by cable to my router and thus to my ISP (DNS server).
Two questions:- where can I find hints on setting up a wired connection (which card's MAC address does it want? router or wrkstn?) and Am I right that Add/remove is stuffed because of Network Manager?I now have Samba working from Linux to XP, but still can't get into Linux from XP. I tried the Linux PC's MAC address and set up a wired connection in Network Manager. NM still thinks there isn't one...
