General :: Zorin Resolution Size Cannot Change Panel Is Missing

Jun 16, 2011

I was having a problem even loading my distro. It turns out I accidently installed wrong drivers (nvidia while I have an Itel chip set) So everytime NVIDIA tried to load it's module and screen setting, it forced a check (fsck) because it couldn't find anything for NVIDIA. I booted in recovery, Changed configuration. # commented out the NVIDIA section, and changed NVIDIA to intel in the display section. Which seems to have worked because it now loads without me having to go into recovery mode, however my screen is abnormaly large and I can only see the center of the desktop. Leaving me unable to reach the panel and change the settings.

Typing:

Code:

However when I do xrandr I get:

Code:

cannot open display

Is there a way for me to edit that and any ideas on why it may be doing that?

Ubuntu :: Resolution - Top Panel Is Slightly Cut Off - Missing About The Top 20% Of The Panel

Mar 23, 2010

I'm new to Ubuntu and really like it so far, having come from a PC background up to now. I've installed it on my Acer laptop and all is well there. However, on my desktop, the screen resolution doesn't match the Ubuntu desktop and fonts and graphics are very blurry. The hardware I have is:

HP Compaq dx2450 micro-tower FE281EA
Samsung 23" widescreen monitor, native resolution 1680x1050

When I check the resolution using System > Preferences > Display it says that indeed I'm using 1680x1050, which should be correct. However, the bottom of the Ubuntu desktop is cut-off, below the bottom of the screen, so I can only see the very top edge of the bottom panel. The top panel is also slightly cut off, missing about the top 20% of the panel. Left and right seem to be in line OK. The resulting blurriness of fonts makes it fairly unusable until I get it fixed.

I've searched fairly extensively and I realise there are other threads on this so sorry for posting again, but they all seem to be slightly different problems and all the responses are fairly or very technical. Maybe I can't avoid a technical solution and getting my hands dirty with a terminal prompt, but I'm hoping I can fix this without resorting to stuff I don't understand and might get wrong. I'm a technically minded end-user but not a unix guy.

General :: Increase Text Size In 10.04 Due To Having Large Resolution/monitors?

Apr 3, 2010

I have 24" dual monitors with 1920x1080 resolution on both of them. Consequently the text appears so small. I use the following text-intensive applications frequently:

Web browser (Google Chrome)
IDE (Komodo)
Terminal (Gnome Terminal)
Email (Thunderbird)

I can configure text size on IDE, Terminal and Email. But for Chrome, it is not a good idea to set proportional font size because often one wants to see the entire (not just proportional fonts) site to be zoomed. So I am asking: Is it possible to increase DPI in Ubuntu (much like on Windows) so as to increase the text size across all apps? OR Is it possible to set permanent 'zoom' in Google Chrome, using a third-party extension maybe?

General :: Virtualized Screen Resolution - Use A Larger Size Display That Is Configured By Default

Apr 18, 2010

I have a 64 bit Ubuntu 9.10 workstation with two virtualized guest OSes using KVM/QEMU. Also both 64-bit. One is Fedora 12 the other is beta of Ubuntu 10.04.

The problem is that I would like to use a larger size display that is configured by default.

Both guest OSes have a maximum screen resolution of 1024x768. I would like to increase this to something like 1280x900 or 1440x900. The resolution of the host system is 1920x1080.

This configuration appears to be a result of the installation detecting the resolution being reported by the virtual screen during installation.

The only information I have found on the subject suggests modifying the xorg.conf file in the /etc/X11 directory. Neither guest system has this file.

I tried creating one by hand in the Fedora system and managed to render it completely unusable. Not a big deal as this is recently installed and can be reinstalled easily.

General :: Transparency For Terminal -gnome/ubuntu - Zorin ?

Jun 9, 2011

I am currently reading a few different command line tutorials and have my terminal set to almost completely clear. In dreamlinux it made it easy to see what the tutorial said, While still letting me use the terminal as I read. In zorinOS (Ubuntu build using Gnome) I have it set to almost total clear, and what I get for the background is my wallpaper ... Regardless of whether there is a window open or not. The only changes I have made are in the preference settings, and not to any files.

But on the part where I set transparency here are my options (grey is not selectable,[x] is chosen option,{dir} is drop menu, --*---- *=current setting):

Debian Multimedia :: How To Change Icons Size And Gaps Size

Oct 22, 2015

today I upgraded via official testing repository Gnome to version 3.18. After this, icons on desktop and nautilus are bigger, than before. Next thing, gaps between icons are smaller than before. I tried change theme to default (Adwaita), then run gtk-update-icon-cache, but without result.

Normal view - icons are big for this view. URL....

Small view - icons are still big for this view. URL...

How can I change icons size and gaps size? Or is it bug for this version?

General :: Change Resolution In Kde 2.1.1?

Feb 15, 2011

I have Redhat 7.0 and kde 2.1.1 I've been looking for a way to change the resolution. I've found many ways to do it, but nothing can fix my problem. 1.If you configure your monitor in the KDE Control center under peripherals you may be able to fix this problem. There are two items in peripherals, mouse and keyboard. I don't see anything about resolution.

I can simply do it like this in KDE 3.4: right click the desktop, choose "configure desktop", then "display", then choose one of the resolutions in the dropdown menu. I see configure desktop, but there is no "display" item**you could change settings in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. There is no xorg.conf file in that folder.

General :: Change Amount And Size Of Ramdisks

Mar 8, 2011

Using Linux, when I boot I automatically have 16 16MB ramdisks, however, I would like to create one really large ramdisk to test some software.I found that I can adjust the size of the ramdisks already on the system with the kernel boot parameter ramdisk_size however, this makes all 16 ramdisks (/dev/ram0 - /dev/ram15) the size that is specified. So if I want to create a 1GB ramdisk, I would need 16GB of memory.Basically, I want to create one 10GB ramdisk which would be /dev/ram0. How would I go about doing that? I assume there is a kernel boot parameter, but I just haven't found it.

Jan 21, 2010

We know that, in a network, data transfer time is dependent on capacity of the receiving node. I have two Linux systems A (sender) and B (receiver) connected. I want to simulate congetion in a network, that means I want to increse the time taken to transfer some data. I believe, I can do this if I can reduce the capacity of the receiver node B. That perhaps possible by decreasing the receiving buffer size of B. How can I change the receiving buffer size of this linux system B?
