I am trying to write a chat program with sockets as part of my project. I made a socket server, using fork ,I tried to connect it with different clients. Each client will send messages to others through server. So server has a shared memory storing every clients username and client id. But the problem facing is first client is able to sent messages to every other client formed after that. But second client onwards it is not able to sent message to previously connected ones. Server is not able to write on those client id's.
Ladies and Gents, I am new on this forum. I have installed Ubuntu on my box and have been using it for over 2 weeks now. I have been trying to setup G-mail chat or Facebook chat and it just keeps on saying "connecting - Disconnecting" without anything happening.
I want to built a Chat Program (based on Socket connection) between client and server. I use the GTK+ &GLADE graphic tool. Can you send me the code for this program or any material to learn. Also, I want to know how to show the input to text view (in GTK+&Glade).
I have (finally) been able to install Skype. I have a QuickCam Chat (M/N v-uap42) and I have the installation disk for windows with all the drivers on it. I have converted my machine to Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. It has an Intel Celeron M processor.
All of the explanations I'm finding are telling me to put stuff in the terminal window with the assumption that I know what they're talking about it. I don't know what a kernel is or does or how to find out which one I have. I don't know what a tar is or does or how to find one. I'm looking for a simple 'for dummies' type of explanation on how I can get my webcam to work. Any suggestions?
a friend of mine is running debian and for some reason we are getting errors when we try to use the deb package on its google code page were there like some dependancies that we need to install first before doing it through the use of a deb package
The following system is planned : There should be one main notebook, to which are connected several displays with keyboards to offer for several persons chat opportunities. This chat should be projected with a beamer on a screen.I have several questions:
1) Is it possible for one computer to get at the same time different inputs from different persons and to process the inputs correctly? How could this be realized? Is x.org an adequate software solution?
2) How could the whole system being realized? What should be taken into account when buying the hardware?
3) Are there any Linux-specific problems with connecting to a beamer which are hard to manage for a newbie?
Anyone ever try and do any type of video chat from abroad specifically? I'm going to China to teach a class for $work for two weeks and wanted to use something like Skype video chat with my family while over there (I'm in the continental United States) and wanted to know if anyone else out there had tried this or another service? My laptop runs Linux, as well as the computer at my home, so any chat service would need to be Linux friendly
I have been using ubuntu for almost a week. and i am impressed on how it seems to fulfills most of my computer needs better than windows. when i click the new message indicator (the envelope), and click chat, by default it opens empathy. personally i prefer pidgin, and i would like to make it open pidgin instead of empathy when i press chat. it currently shows pidgin in the list anyway but i want it to appear as chat.
I want to block yahoo mail chat in dansguardian. I had google few thing I come to know that I need to do this. Locking DNS lookups to webcs.msg.yahoo and httpcs.msg.yahoo by returning 127.0.0.1. Am new to this community and this is my first post. am doing a project where i have to develop a wireless ad hoc routing protocol. I have just begun working on the project. I did not know where to start, so started off with a simple chat program using TCP and thought of making the modifications to it later on. But I do have a prob even i running that!
Am not getting the messages in a synchronized manner. The prog is running fine, but the messages that i type from the server are not reaching the client at all, and at times some garbage values are getting printed(When the strcmp()fn returns 1, "connection terminated" gets printed timely in both the sides. this is the oly situation where i do not get garbage values.) am using VC++ 6.0 here.I have been breaking my head for the past 3-4 days for this simple issue. any response to this would be of great help.

i got my facebook chat working in empathy, but for some reason i can not add my friends from this protocol into a custom group. I have my gmail contacts in a group, and my aim buddies in a group, allowing them to be minimized, but i cannot get my facebook friends to go into a facebook group for some reason. I can right click the friend, and create a new group called "Facebook", but the friend will not move to the group when i hit close.
