General :: How To Change Panel Icon Pictures?

Jul 19, 2010

I installed a couple of windows programs in wine and created shortcut icons in the main screen top panel. The shortcut icons are all the same, a kind of "screw". Can these be changed to something a little more aesthetically pleasing and functional, or do I have to put up the little dreary screws?

Ubuntu :: Can't Change The Actual Panel Icon?

Aug 12, 2010

I want to do is change the icon that the deskbar applet shows in the panel. I've read that you can change the icon that is in the text input box (url), but I've had no luck finding any thing to change the actual panel icon.

tl;dr version:
I want to change this icon: url

The icons in /usr/share/deskbar-applet/art/ don't manipulate this icon.

General :: Change Icon In KDE4

Oct 14, 2010

I recently installed Kubuntu 10.4 (running KDE 4.4.2) on a new laptop. All of the important stuff is working fine and I'm now on to the tweaks. To that end: does anyone know how to change individual application icons? I installed a new icon theme from kde-look, but many of the icons either did not change (a.) or are just ugly and I'd like to be able to change them manually (b.)

When I right-click an icon, I have the option of clicking "icon settings," but there is no option to change the icon from there. In earlier versions of KDE, I could just click the icon itself and it would bring up all of the available icons. Is this a permissions issue? If so, what do I change to be able to edit the icons?

General :: Why Does Gconf-edit Not Work To Change The GDM Icon

Jan 26, 2011

So I have done some googling and experimenting to change the GDM icon (Ubuntu 10.04) and have found the following ways:

UbuntTweak
Replace /usr/share/icons/LoginIcons/apps/64/computer.svg with your own svg
Change the gconf config setting /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/logo_icon_name to be the name of your icon in the theme. Then copy that file to the icon theme path: /usr/share/icons/LoginIcons/apps/64/.

I have gotten #1 and #2 to work. I am not sure how UbuntuTweak is actually doing it's magic (but would love to know). I do not like #2 as it seems messy and what not.

I can not get #3 to work. I have found post after post that says it should. I have tried editing the gconf DB in multiple ways:

gksu gconf-editor
gksu -u gdm gconf-editor
sudo -u gdm gconftool-2 --set --type string /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/logo_icon_name MYICONFILE
sudo gconftool-2 --set --type string /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/logo_icon_name MYICONFILE

And while all of those methods show that the value has been edited NONE of them actually change the icon (did a service gdm restart to check).

Given that:

The official docs state that this should work By replacing the computer.svg file it does work (so I know I am copying my file to the correct path)

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Cannot Pull Pictures From SD Card. Pictures Half Green Or With Lines?

May 1, 2011

Running Ubuntu 10.10 along side Windows7 on a 64-bit HP Pavilion dv7 Laptop. Everything works in Windows. Everything works in Ubuntu, except for 2 things.1) I can live with not being able to enable/disable wifi.) I cannot read photos from an SD card plugged into the laptops SD card reader. When I open the SD card in Ubuntu, I can see the file name, but the thumbnails show messed up pictures. Usually, the bottom half of the photo is solid green, and there are usually lines running through the photo, or it is divided into quadrants with one quadrant being ok, but the rest having the green and/or lines.I assume the driver for the card reader is not correct. Card reader works fine in Windows. So I have to reboot into windows, copy pictures from reader to a folder, then reboot into Ubuntu and I can see and open the photos just fine. Just cannot read and copy them from the card while in Ubuntu.

General :: Zorin Resolution Size Cannot Change Panel Is Missing

Jun 16, 2011

I was having a problem even loading my distro. It turns out I accidently installed wrong drivers (nvidia while I have an Itel chip set) So everytime NVIDIA tried to load it's module and screen setting, it forced a check (fsck) because it couldn't find anything for NVIDIA. I booted in recovery, Changed configuration. # commented out the NVIDIA section, and changed NVIDIA to intel in the display section. Which seems to have worked because it now loads without me having to go into recovery mode, however my screen is abnormaly large and I can only see the center of the desktop. Leaving me unable to reach the panel and change the settings.

Typing:

Code:

However when I do xrandr I get:

Code:

cannot open display

Is there a way for me to edit that and any ideas on why it may be doing that?

Ubuntu :: Volume Icon Gone From Top Panel In 10.4

Mar 22, 2010

I am using the fully updated version of Ubuntu 10.4. The volume icon is missing from the top panel and adding the "notification area" does not do anything - I can double-click the icon, or drag it over, and nothing appears in the panel. Adding the "Indicator Applet" also has the same result. I do not know what applet to add, nor do I know why the volume icon is missing. The power icon, the network icon, the mail icon, and the rest of the applets are all there - only the volume icon is missing.

Also, when I press "fn + pg up or pg dn," it would usually change the volume and display a notification showing that the volume changed. This does not happen anymore: no notification, no sound change. I can still hear audio, but can not change the level.

Ubuntu :: Panel And Icon Display ?

Apr 29, 2011

I've upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04, and now I'm experiencing some problems with the displaying of panels and icons that I'm hoping someone can help me to fix.

Situation: Running 11.04 in latest virtualbox (4.06, with guest additions installed) on a macbook pro running snow leopard (10.6.7). I'm in gnome classic (no effects) because I'm not yet used to gnome 3 and compiz doesn't run all that well for me in this virtualization set-up. But the problem, described below, is consistent from gnome 3 to classic (with effects) to classic (without effects).

Problem: When I first log in after a reboot, everything looks great in the default settings (ambiance theme, I think), but after ~ 15 seconds, the panels and icons revert to an odd looking theme that I don't particularly care for. And trying to change the settings in the "Appearance" preferences is of no help, i.e., I can change the themes, but the panels and icons remain in a stock, old-school gnome-ish theme.
