Aug 31, 2010

I set my fstab to auto mount one of my partitions in ~/Music.It works perfectly, but there is always the icon in the desktop pointing to my partition with the name "40 GB FileSystem". The idea behind mounting it automatically to ~./Music was for the partition to be transparent to me...Is there a way to remove that icon from the desktop and from the Places menu?

Fedora :: After New Kernel - When Start Up And The Login Screen Appears It No Longer Says My Username

May 22, 2010

Well, to start off my graphics card didn't work but I got that fixed.

When I start up and the login screen appears it no longer says my username and Other.. under it. It only displays Other.. I have to click that type in my username and then my password. When I log on the Auto Bug Reporting tool pops up and says 3 things crashed

I can't change my system time, shutdown or reboot under system or my username in the top right hand corner. I have to su and manually type reboot or shutdown to shutdown. It is like the computer is completely restricting me from using it.

When I try to get into my firewall an error comes up

I cannot mount anything:

Ubuntu Multimedia :: 2.6.31-18 Sound Control Applet No Longer Appears In Panel

Feb 2, 2010

Since I upgraded my kernel to 2.6.31-18 I have been experiencing problems with my sound. 2.6.31-18 sound problems with nvidia MCP72XE/MCP72P/MCP78U/MCP78SThe laptop speakers no longer shut off when plugging in headphones. My sound control applet no longer appears in the panel. When launching a sound application sound starts off real loud for a second and then changes to much quieter. I have had this laptop since Hardy with never any sound issues. I do not know if it is the kernel upgrade or the accompanying backports modules. Could be neither for all I know and it just started around that time and is a coincidence.

Here is what was installed:
Installed the following packages:
linux-backports-modules-alsa-2.6.31-18-generic (2.6.31-18.20)
linux-headers-2.6.31-18 (2.6.31-18.55)

Ubuntu :: Can't Get Images To Appear After Adding Them To Stylesheet - Header File No Longer Appears

Sep 1, 2011

This header file no longer appears when it is set as the "stylesheet/imags/heading banner"

Ubuntu 11.04
GnuCASH v.2.4.2 (from the ubuntu 11.04 repos)

This worked in GnuCASH Ubuntu 10.04 (gnucash 2.2.9-5) but no longer works after doing a clean install followed by copying ~/.gnucash and ~/.aqbanking back into place. The rest of the attributes of both my custom Invoice & Report stylesheet still work (ie colours, etc.) but even when creating a brand new custom stylesheet I cannot get these images to appear after adding them to a stylesheet and saving the settings. This worked fine in the previous version of the application. I have tried deleting the old stylesheet(s) and recreating from scratch and the only thing that does not work is placing the banner or logo images where they are supposed to be. I've done an strace to verify that the image is being found: it's just not appearing.

I have asked around on IRC ( #gnucash) and it was suggested that it might be a webkit issue, libwebkitgtk is verified as installed.

General :: Disappear Desktop Icon For Removable Media?

Mar 16, 2010

Ubuntu 9.04 Gnome Desktop (although I have seen the same situation in other versions). When I have a removable media device installed such as a USB flash drive, a CD/DVD or an SD card in the built in reader I have a corresponding icon on the desktop. So here is my situation...I have a 16 GB SDHC card installed in the reader in my netbook as additional storage. As the main solid state "hard drive" itself is only 16 GB I leave the card in at all times. I would like to do away with the desktop icon as I never use it to access the SD card. Any way to do this? I believe it appear as part of the HAL process so perhaps it will go away with 10.04.

If I go

ls -i
I get

2 gphoto2 mount on usb%3A002,005 an inode of 2? gphoto2 is broken too, but I'm not as worried about that.
