View 2 RepliesI recently installed vsftpd and can't see any files I put in the nopriv_user folder.
I want to be able to login anonymously without a password, see files to download and upload files to a pub folder.
After installing and configuring vsftpd I created the ftp_priv user by doing "sudo useradd -d /home/ftp_priv -m ftp_priv".
Then I added a folder /home/ftp_priv/pub with permissions 777 and a test file.
vsftpd.conf
Code:
listen=YES
port_enable=NO
pasv_min_port=55000
pasv_max_port=55100

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'd like to configure vsftpd server in a way to allow remote user (local) too see and edit configuration files in their ftp directory starting from dot (like .htaccess, for example). With default configuration + "local_allowed = yes" it does not appear to be possible:user can successfully upload .file but could neither see if it is in directory nor download it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've just upgraded my serv from fedora8 to fedora12 and got a problem. The httpd and vsftpd add a junk in the beginning of html files. Png, tar and other files are ok. When I make a request to localhost everything is ok.
Code:
#telnet localhost 80
GET /1.html
<html>
</html>
but from any other computer.
Code: .....
But this is not an apache problem. When I dl html files from ftp I got the same problem. Iptables is swithed off.
I'm using vsftpd on my server. When I connect (using file-zilla) from other computers on the same network I can't download any files. I can upload, create directories, and delete stuff, but I can't download. I've disabled anonymous access and enabled local user log-in. My /etc/vsftpd.conf
Code:
# Example config file /etc/vsftpd.conf
#
# The default compiled in settings are fairly paranoid. This sample file
# loosens things up a bit, to make the ftp daemon more usable.
# Please see vsftpd.conf.5 for all compiled in defaults.

I've installed a fresh centos5 box and installed vsftpd however my first test user does not have permissions to his own home directory.

I'm quite lost and not even 100% on which forums i should aim at..I have a relatively simple task yet for some reason its proving difficult to do!! Our server is running Fedora (running a live commerce site) recently we had some security updates applied so i can no longer connect remotely via SSH root. Using PUTTY i now connect under a different username and then SU under the root user/pass. All is fine, now all i want to do is download a file in the tmp2 directory. /tmp2/apache2-gdb-dump Can anyone tell me1) How would i download this file using Putty/SSH command 2) I'd much rather user a GUI tool for this kind of work but the substitute user step doesnt seem to be supported by common apps,as FileZilla.With this in mind, is there some software or steps i can take so i can connect, run a su command and use a nice gui to transfer these files
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble understanding how to verify the download of the Fedora iso-files. know how to do this on a Windows system. I have been looking in the help section for checking the iso-files, but I'm not sure where to find the right hashes, like MD5, SHA1, and etc.
View 6 Replies View Relatedwhen I try to view php files on my linux box, they want to download instead of viewing them. I configured apache for php as the manual said but for some reason it doesn't want to parse the php. the http.conf file may need to be changed, that the line "AddModule mod_php4.c" was missing in the conf, however the AddModule and ClearModuleList directives no longer exist in the newer versions of Apache. These directives were used to ensure that modules could be enabled in the correct order. The new Apache 2.0 API allows modules to explicitly specify their ordering, eliminating the need for these directives.
View 8 Replies View RelatedWhenever I save a text file edited with LibreOffice, I get a new, locked file which can be identified with its "~.lock" file prefix. This locked file prevents access (probably for security reasons) to the original file. However, this is a serious impediment as it forbids any further editing of the original file or document so long as the locked file has not been removed. Though erasing this locked file (which can be made visible with "Ctrl-H" if hidden) should free the original, this in fact is not the case. how to unlock these locked files?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have recovered most of my USB drive, but a couple of folders are locked and look like files. I'm unable to change permissions on them and "You are not the owner so you cannot change these permissions." appears in the properties tab. The owner is "184444735 - user #-184444735" and the group is "17414907" which makes no sense to me. Most other folders and files are OK. The disaster I recovered from was a partition move that failed. I used fsck to get most things back. Any idea how I get these couple of folders (the most important one is one of them "Documents" of course). to be visible?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI haved tried 3 times to download DVD-7 from http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/...md64/jigdo-dvd, and every time it has failed with just 5 files left to download.
It says:
I cannot begin to describe. All those hours of downloading for nothing! What the heck is happening here? When I try to just continue on, I get error code 3 aborts and have to just start all over.
I dual boot into Arch Linux and OS X 10.6 on my MacBook pro. I synced my UID between both OSes and created an HFS partition (with no journaling) to use as a shared home/Users partition. For the most part it works just as I'd expect, but sometimes when I'm booted into OS X certain files are "locked" (when I get info on a particular file the "Locked" box is checked under the "General" pane. I can resolve the issue by manually unchecking the box) and/or I get "Operation not permitted" when I try deleting or chmod'ing a file. In both cases I don't see anything out of the ordinary on the permission bits displayed with ls -l, except for a trailing '@' character in the position where the sticky bit would normally occur:
This '@' character shows up on ALL normal files, so doesn't seem to be linked to the locked/operation not permission situation.
On the Linux side of things I never have permission problems. To the best of my limited knowledge and experience with ACLs I've not found any ACLs on any of the files in question.
For what it's worth, I do most of my file editing using emacs (Aquamacs in OSX), is it possible it is setting weird permission bits?
What is the "locked" setting that OS X uses and does it have a permission bit equivalent (so at the very least I could recursively unlock all files in my home directory from the terminal) why might some, but not other files get "locked" when booting into OS X what is the meaning of the '@' character?
I want to use my flash drive, but I had files I put on using Ubuntu a few weeks back. Now I can only open them in read only copies and can't remove them, from the flash drive. I also have had some issues with file permissions on the hard drive. I was planning on reinstalling after a backup but now I don't know if that would be logical because the files might all be locked. I wanted to reinstall because I have issues with USB and these file issues.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've just started using the amazingly useful Ubuntu One, but I can't sync files from my computer, due to the pesky locked keyring, default, which wishes to be unlocked. View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop that I have been running 64bit lucid on after some problems with NFS Samba and SMB the installation got a bit trashed after some workarounds I removed nautilus completely and rebooted and got the looping login screen........ then I tried a suggestion to purge gdm but that left me with a blank grey screen and a mouse pointer. X11 has failed so I have no graphics
I can login properly to the drive from the terminal and can access my drive contents... I cannot load dolphin or nautilus from the terminal. So I have booted from a live cd and have moved some of my data to another partition but some is locked to the owner (me). How can I get my locked data opened so I can copy or move it to another drive, so I can perform a fresh install.
Nautilus problem in ubuntu 11.04 I recently upgraded and now having problems with nautilus.
1) I don't know for sure if it's related but all of the icons on my desktop (files located in desktop) have little lock symbols in the upper right-hand corner of the icon.
2) I cannot open files from the desktop (because they are evidently locked)
3) I cannot open any of the folders listed when I go to "Places" (between Applications and System top of the screen) Running nautilus from the terminal, I CAN go to different folders and open files in the usual manner.
Yahoo! is shutting down Geocities and I need to download all the files in my webfolder there, is there a program that will download all the files there automatically

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was happily running F10 and against my better judgement when it offered to upgrade me to F11 I decided to give it a try. The F11 install hung at 893 of 1626 packages installed. Some SE Linux package was in process of install. On the next boot the installer fails to upgrade for a corrupted root. It says I can backtrack and do a full install, but crashes with a bug when I choose backtrack.
So here is my question - Can i edit the command line and tell the installer to full install rather than upgrade? Or am I stuck with downloading a DVD ISO and doing a full install that way. I've done F8, F9 and F10 so full install from DVD doesn't bother me.
1- I've set up 3 virtual users,one of them is a system one (with a different password) and writes on his own home folder. With this one I haven't found any problems yet, but with the other 2 users I can't access files/folders created by them. It's a permissions problem for sure, but I'm not sure how to correct it.With these users I can upload files, create files and create folders. The problem is I can't access what I create (I can't enter a folder I created but it is there and I can upload files into it).
2- Whenever I turn on ssl_enable=YES I can't access the server (even from the server itself when I connect to localhost, It's a regular Ubuntu installation).Here's the config file for the users:
Code:
write_enable=YES
anon_mkdir_write_enable=YES
anon_other_write_enable=YES[code].....

I am running FTP server using vsftpd 2.0.5-12 on Centos 5.3 64bit with default settings, annonymous access enabled. Each night new files are created and moved into a FTP subdirectory (/var/ftp/spectra) by a script. The files are owned by a local user/group, not root, and the same holds for the /var/ftp/spectra subdirectory. The new files are not visible via FTP. Only visible are files that were created the same day when I made the directory /var/ftp/spectra. Also files that are created "in place", e.g. by vi, are visible until I change their owner/group. This is the situation when vsftpd is runned as a system service (/etc/init.d/vsftpd start).
When I start the vsftpd directly using the command /usr/sbin/vsftpd (both without or with the configuration file specified), all files are visible and normally accessible via FTP.
