Fedora :: Can't Connect To The Internet

Apr 13, 2010

I have Fedora 12 Repo installed. The computer has wire and wireless connections but I cant set it up any one of them. I can add a wire connection but it does not connect. I cant add any wireless connection because all the different options dont show up the apply button active. The dual boot does not work also. It only allows you to log on to Fedora Repo. I tried to install the i386 option but it failed to connect. I was using Mepis 8.5 before and I did not have any of these problems when I first installed it.

I recently installed Fedora 11 on Sony Vaio laptop and I cannot connect to the internet. I used many different kind of browsers and no luck. I am using wireless it is Broadcom 2200 card and i can tell the driver is installed correctly and it says I am connected to the wireless fine. Strange thing is that when i use software update it downloads them fine which means the internet is there. But I cannot goto any webpage with my browser. I run ifconfig and i can even ping websites without problem. I checked my firewall to see if its blocking my port 80 but it was not blocking.

I installed fresh copy of fedora 11. I can't activate or deactivate ethernet from system>Administration>Network. Why is this............I can connect to internet directly by enabling network icon on right topmost corner. Even doing so dosen't guarantee connection at times. What could be wrong here ? Also my network icon shows it is disconnected whenever I start my computer. Cant fedora 11 just connect to the internet while it boots ?

Fedora :: Unable To Connect To The Internet?

Oct 15, 2010

Just installed Fedora 13 (64-bit). Brand new to Linux and not much of a computer expert.

As the subject line says, I am unable to connect to the Internet.

Things that I have already tried based on threads posted for similar problems:

* ping -c 5 www.google.com
unknown host www.google.com
* ping -c 5 74.125.159.105
Network is unreachable

I connect to the Internet via wired ethernet. The modem/gateway is 2Wire mod. 2701HG-B. Service provider is AT&T DSL. Ethernet controller is Realtek Semiconductor RTL8111/81688 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet. When I go to System -> Administration -> Network Device Control it shows eth0 as inactive.

Network Configuration shows:

* Hostname: localhost.localdomain
* Primary/Secondary/Tertiary DNS: blank
* DNS Search Path: blank

I have no problem whatsoever connecting to the Internet when using Windows XP.

Fedora :: Unable To Connect To The Internet

Jul 20, 2011

I've been using 3 different distros for the last 2 weeks. Ubuntu, Fedora and Mint. And i've been using Windows since I can remember. I won't talk here about the benefits I got with Linux, because everyone knows that. But there's something about Linux that keeps annoying me, no offence to Linux users, and I want to ask you about that.

It just seems impossible to install additional software without an Internet connection. I tried: Keryx, Opyum, Suhi,huh?, Synaptics generate download script, yum -downloadonly. I didn't yet: Debian 10DVD I'm not programmer, and my knowledge about computers and operative systems is very small. But installing software on Windows the worst case of dependencies i saw was I had to download just one more .exe file (.NET framework or klite codec pack installers, for example).

question: Is there any Linux distro or any way where packages are managed in a more compact fashion? Suppose I want to use Wine, how I download some megapackage with ALL dependencies or something like that? How system administrators manage where no Internet connection at all (if that possible)?

I have just installed Fedora 10. After the installation I was able browse the Internet. However, I did a update: yum update and downloaded 287 updates. However, when I rebooted I could no longer connect to the Internet. I went to network manager and looked at the details of my connection. Everything ok there. IP address, DNS, etc. However, I cannot connect. I have windows xp running on the same system. I can still connect, so there is nothing wrong with my Internet connection.I am using Fedora 10 2.6.27.12-170 There is one thing I have noticed when I shutdown is I see this: "Network manager Int PIC disabled" However, this is only displayed for a few seconds before the computer swiches off.

Fedora Networking :: Connect To Internet Through The Terminal ?

Mar 18, 2009

When I fire up my F10, I get connected to the Internet through wireless automatically. I jus wanted to experience how the CLI- Command Line Interface world is and to test the text based internet apps like elinks,lynx etc.. So I changed the runlevel to 3 in my /etc/inittab file. Now when I fire it up, it gives me the terminal.

The problem is I am unable to connect to internet. How should i connect to the Wireless Access Points.. n also here internet is under a http proxy ...so how to configure the connection.

I have tried a lot, like

Code:

I have used this part of script many times in runlevel 5 i.e X mode under gnome for spoofing my wireless adaptor's mac id by adding a line before starting the NetworkManager service.

Code:

I have also tried something like

Code:

But this one shows nothing(no output just stays blank) I dont get why it doesnt work under runlevel 3..

Ethernet works fine though but when I unplug the cable and try to mess with the settings, I still can't connect. Fedora Networking :: Connect To Network But Not Internet

Oct 16, 2009

2 days ago I did a fresh install of Fedora on my computer to be dual-booted with Linux Mint. The first time I did this install a few weeks ago, I did all of the updates, rebooted (internet still fine) and when I rebooted again, Fedora could no longer connect to the internet (but could still see the networks and ostensibly connect to them). I fixed it then by manually setting the BSSID/IP/DNS/etc.

And this happened again on the new install! This time it took out the internet connection in Mint too. I tried manually setting the connection settings, but that didn't even work for a while. So, last night, thinking that the install might be the problem, I reinstalled Fedora. This morning I finally got my internet to connect on Mint, but I'm concerned that if I do all of the updates on Fedora I'm just going to end up back at square one with zero internet connection.

Fedora :: Cannot Connect Internet - Need Java Plugin

Nov 11, 2010

I'm at wits-end here trying to get Fedora up and running. Just installed Fedora 14 from a live CD on my 32-bit Toshiba laptop computer. I'm at college for the semester, which means all internet access is through my school. Problem is, in order to get online via my school, I need a java plugin for Firefox. For non-Windows computers, users must log-in to the network through a web browser, using a Java applet. This requires a java plugin. I cannot access my school's network without it. An alternative to this is to use my Droid X's wireless tethering capability. This is normally how I solve the Java problem whenever I install a new Distro (I'm a distro-hopper).

Unfortunately, however, my computer is not picking up any wireless connections and I have no idea how to search for them. When I right-click the networking icon, I ensure that networking is enabled. When I left-click the icon, it's not even showing a list of wireless connections, leading me to believe that either a) wireless networking is disabled or b) Fedora doesn't notice that I have a wireless card at all. Maybe neither of these are the problem, I don't know. I'm no expert by any means. In fact, I'm quite new to Linux. I'm posting this from a netbook which has PCLinuxOS on it, which is connected to my school's network via ethernet. I looked up the java installation instructions on the java website.

I followed them by a) downloading the RPM and saving it to my external hard drive, which I then used to transfer it to the laptop which has Fedora 14 on it. I did my best to follow the instructions for installation which are given on the website, but to no avail. I cannot get any plugin to show up in Firefox. When I run the "java -version" command, I get "java version 1.6.0_22", and two more lines of output, which indicate that I have java installed on my computer. Is this correct and if so, how do I get the plugin installed in FireFox? I've opened FireFox and checked to see if the plugin is there or not, and it is not.
