I have an ADSL line that allows me for maximum of 4 concurrent users with external IP addreses. The IP addresses are not static (they change every 3-4days).
My current setup is as follows: * A-link Roudrunner 44B Modem connected to the main line * D-Link DI524 Router (port 1) connected to the modem * This leaves me with 3 ports and Wireless for my other machines
What I wish to do is: * Have all my machines with static IP addresses for LAN * still have internet connection
I've tried enabling DHCP on the D-Dlink Router with LAN IP 192.168.0.1 and IP range from 192.168.0.100 - 192.168.0.199. Then gave my machine static IP 192.168.0.101, subnet 255.255.255.0 and gateway 192.168.0.1....obviously it didn't work. I've tried the above with both the modem being connected to the router via port1 and WAN port... but I have the same results. I also tried to do the same without the router (direct connection between the PC and modem) still got the same results. Could it be that what I am trying to do is not technically not possible due to my ISP setup to ensure no more than4 concurrent users limit is in place.
I'm a beginner in Ubuntu, I'm using Ubuntu 9.10. Currently using a Dlink GLB-802c router and using a ADSL connection. I try to connect to the Internet but it is unsuccessful. Ubuntu is not indicating my router when I connect to the PC.
My PC is P4 and using USB to connect to internet, PC haven't a Ethernet interface.
I have an adsl modem acting as a bridge to my router my setup was working well for more than year now , but then the internet went slow . I set the modem back to PPPoE the problem was with the DNS server of the ISP so using ifup i set the dns t 184.108.40.206 (google) the connection is back , but when i set the modem back as a bridge slow internet does the router know that my dns is 220.127.116.11 or i should set the dns on the router ? I can't see an option to set the dns on the router ( i just enter my username and password from the isp to use PPPoE mode ) by the way i called the isp support they kept telling me to restart , i told them i did but i never restarted my pc . I'm sure if i tell them i'm running linux they will blame the os !
I have 2 pcs at home. I dont have a switch so I can connect only one PC at a time to my adsl router/modem for internet access. In the past I had successfully connected the two PCs (NIC to NIC) to each other using the same ethernet cable which was supplied with my dlink adsl modem.
Recently the motherboard of on of my PC went bad so I replaced it with a new one. The problem is when I connect the two using the same Ethernet cable they won't connect. The lights on the Ethernet port won't light up. I can still connect both of them to the adsl router (NIC to Router) (one at a time).
I have a desktop PC running Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows 7, and a Eee PC 701 laptop running EasyPeasy Ubuntu 9.04. I'd like to connect the desktop to the laptop with a wired connection (eth0), then the laptop to my ADSL router using wireless (ath0).
I have a crossover ethernet cable (I bought on ebay). I have set up my laptop with a static IP address on my LAN and it uses OpenDNS.
I have added this to /etc/sysctl.conf on the laptop:
This is a variation on what I found on other sites describing how to set up a router. I don't understand iptables very well, but I gather that the above two lines should set up forwarding so that traffic from my router to the laptop will be forwarded to the desktop, and vice versa.
But this doesn't work. The connection doesn't even establish between the laptop and the desktop.
I have an valid account, and I used pppoe-setup to set the dial correctly. After the configuration,I typed "ifup ppp0",nothing wrong happens(no news is good news?).Then I typed "pppoe-status",it said I've connected to the internet . I opened firefox, updated my system through yum ,they all said I haven't connected to the network!!!I've formated my harddisk and reinstall my system, but the problem is still.
I want to connect my dataone broadband connection in bridge mode in fedora 7. As i am currently using a bridge connection through this modem (smartAX MT882) in win XP, i want a bridge connection in fedora 7 too to access the internet from linux. I have gone through some forums discussing this issue. somewhere i have found the option "adsl - setup" and tried it in my fedora 7. But it is showing the message "adsl- command not found" on this issue. I need a detail step by step procedure for brigde connection using datone in fedora 7.
I'm sure this is a bridging issue and there is just some option I'm not setting correctly. Also, the reason I'm connecting the Xbox 360 directly to the linux box and not to the router is for traffic monitoring purposes. Note that all connections and functionality work perfectly when the Xbox IS connected through the router.
My broadband internet connection came with a Nokia-Seimens C2110 Adsl modem. Please help me connect the modem through USB cable as the ethernet card is used to connect my computer(Asus- P5RD2 VM motherboard) to a different computer on LAN. I am in a fix and have no clue how to proceed.
i've just installed opensuse 11.2 everything is working fine but i'm unable to connect to the internet through my adsl modem the network is shown to be active but after i configure the dsl connection i can't see any option from where to connect
I am using a dell laptop which has Dell 1397 802.11B/G Wireless Mini Card. I not able to connect to internet and was not able to detect what actual problem is weather card is not supported (i.e. drivers are not available) .
Also, if any one can point to exact process to connect to wireless Lan using fedora12.
I have finally gotten my courage up and decided to take the plunge into Linux. I bought a used HP Pavilion zt1135 laptop, and loaded Ubuntu 10.04. The laptop has no other operating system on it. Everything seems to work fine except it won't connect to the internet. I am using a Comcast cable modem, which uses DHCP and a wired connection. It works fine on my XP computer, but on the Ubuntu laptop it claims there is no network connected. Firefox gives a message something like "No server found".
I have tried recycling the power to the modem and then booting up the laptop. I have tried unchecking "Enable Networking" and then re-checking it. I have checked the ethernet cable on another machine and found it OK. Is it possible Ubuntu does not have drivers for this laptop's ethernet connection, or that the laptop is defective?
Sorry if this is already posted, but I wasnt sure the right keywords to use the search feature... I am somewhat familiar with older Ubuntu, but recently got 11.04 and installed it on my girlfriends laptop and during installation when it was scanning for the DHCP or whatever it says it failed to find it or something or other and it gave options to do it manually or to do it later so I chose to do it later and after booting into the OS I can not do anything via the internet, not even updates. I have tried looking at the network connections and the only thing there is a wired connection. This laptop accesses the internet through a desktop with Cox cable internet and a wireless router...
I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my mac G4 (PPC) and it does not connect to wireless with my wireless card (drivers maybe) I am a complete newbie with any linux operating system (I've tried SLAX but never kept with it) So is there anyway i can use my laptop with Windows XP to cennect to the wireless on my G4 using an Ethernet cord?
I have an old desktop computer that I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on. I also have a laptop with Windows 7 Pro which is connected wirelessly to the internet. The desktop does not have a wireless card and the modem is in another room. I have a spare ethernet cable, is it possible to connect the Ubuntu desktop to the internet by connecting it to the laptop with the cable? I'm not very good with computers. If this isn't possible, how would I go about connecting the desktop to the internet?
I am a beginner to ubuntu. I have installed ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop using wubi. When I am trying to edit the IP address using network editor, apply button is not highlighted.I managed to give IP as well as netmask through command prompt. But I am not able to give gateway and dns IP.Please help me configuring this.
My laptop has been working fine with ubuntu 10.04, and earlier today it shut down after running out of battery. I came to use itr and discovered that the wifi icon had disappeared from the panel bar, and it won't connect to the wireless networkor via a wired connection.I have had a play around with this, tried ping -c5 google.comresult was:ping: unknown host google.comand ping -c5 18.104.22.168result: onnect:etwork is unreachable.I have other computers connecting to this network and know that it is working fine.
i have 3 comps(running ubuntu 10.04) and a laptop(running vista sp2). i have installed samba on all ubuntu comps. i have a printer attached to one of the comps and it has been shared also the internet connection on that comp has been shared. all the computers are connected using lan cables through an ethernet switch. i also have a wireless router which is connected to the ethernet switch.
I am able to view all the comps on the network except the laptop running vista. all the desktops are visible on the network and are able to print and share files on the network and also connect to the internet.the laptop running vista can connect to the internet but its not visible on the network and nor can it share files across the network or access the printer.all the systems have a static ip.
I have an ADSL Internet connection with static IP.I connected through PPPOE from my modem to my ISP.I need to ssh from outside of my home to my home, But i don't know to use which connection between my computer and my modem.(dhcp ,static , bridge or ....)

i have a leased line ( speed 2 MB ) which we use to connect to our mail server , oracle ERP etc.. we have a dhcp scope defined as 192.168.100.1-192.168.101.254. with a default gateway as 192.168.100.90 ( which is a cisco router ) we have a pix firewall ( 192.168.100.10 ).. now the gateway passed all the request to firewall..
we have an ADSL of 4 MB speed.. ip is 83.*.*.230 from ISP. i have a proxy server ( squid ) eth0 is connected to ISP (83.*.*.230).. eth1 to LAN ( 192.168.100.79 ) now the problem is when i put default gateway to eth1 ie 192.168.100.90 the squid connects to internet via leased line.. if i leave the default gateway field empty on eth1 , the squid connects to internet via ADSL ( which i want ) but the problem is no one on the lan cant ping the squid server ( no connectivity to internet for the whole LAN ) how can i solve this problem? i want squid to connect to internet with ADSL, but if i put gateway on eth1 ie LAN squid goes through leased line which i dont want to happen.
I'm using ubuntu 8.04 . Each time I return form suspend mode, the network icon in the right upper conner show a sign "!", which maybe mean there's limited network connection as in windwos. How can I solve this problem?
i cant connect to adsl with pon dsl-provider or any command line. just network manager applet GUI works for me. i follow this guide [URL] and try about 3 hours but without success. i edit /etc/network/interfaces following this thread: [URL] but after any alteration in /etc/network/interfaces and restart network my adsl connections are not work at all and also i lost my GUI applet connections too. then i have to back /etc/network/interfaces to its original content and restart my computer to restore my connections
pon dsl-provider error is:
Plugin rp-pppoe.so loaded. RP-PPPoE plugin version 3.8p compiled against pppd 2.4.5
having trouble connecting to many websites due to recent actions of the Iranian government on banning a lot of websites. That's why, I decided to make my computer act like a bridge for their computers, so that they can surf the web using my Internet connection in US. I have Arch linux running on my desktop. I tried to install OpenVPN based on the instructions at ArchWiki page, but I had no success. I guess OpenVPN is too much for what I want to achieve and ArchLinux repositories don't have all the necessary packages to configure it based on some posts I read.
