The card is recognized by System--admin--network as the correct card (BCM43XG) and assigned eth1. However, NetworkManager shows no wireless network. I have a great signal on the same machine if I boot into a Windows partition.
I use Fedora 14 KDE spin, and I have a wireless network with 4 users. When I start my PC I have to enter the administrator password for the KDE wallet, and also the wireless password if I want to connect to the Internet. This is no problem for me, but I prefer not to share those passwords with the other 3 users. I selected the "Connect automatically" option in the wireless connection settings, but it still asks me for the password every time.

(I also never understood why the DNS server should not be the real dns server address (some external ip) rather than the router's address? but that is what gets set automatically when using DHCP)
So using manual, it connects, but then the internet doesn't work. The only difference I see when I go to "connection information" when connected with dhcp vs manual is in dhcp mode there is a "default route: 192.168.0.1". Is that the problem? How do I set this "default route" / what is it?
I have just installed Fedora 13 on my Lenovo Ideapad S12 (company laptop, evaluating Fedora for companywide use on all laptops) and a facing a weird problem with KDE4 and NetworkManager / knetworkmanager. The laptops wifi card is a Broadcom BCM4312 and I have successfully extracted the necessary b43 firmware. The b43 module loads on boot and the wireless card is activated and ready to use. However, NetworkManager doesn't seem to agree and has wireless disabled by default every time I reboot or even logout / login. I have to check the box manually after which it automatically connects to my wifi network at home.
Any idea where I can check that box automatically on boot?
I'm on F14 and can't seem to get NetworkManager to behave. I seem to remember being able to start my machine and see my static address configured right after boot. For some reason, that's no longer the case. When I finish a boot, I'm not getting any address until I log in. I've tried editing the ifcfg-eth0 both by hand and by the system-config-network. I've played with the "Available to all users" checkbox on both the nm config applet as well as the system-config-network gui. I can't seem to get it to behave predictably and give me my static without having to be in a gnome session.

I'm having problems getting two wlan cards to work under Networkmanager with F12. I have an old server that I wanted to move, so thought I'd get a USB wlan device for it. before setting up the server, I thought I'd try the USB (an Edimax EW-7711USn - Ralink 2870) on my laptop first. My laptop has an inbuilt ipw2200 card that works fine under NM.
So I've down loaded the DPO_RT3370_LinuxSTA_V184.108.40.206_20100831.tgz file from Ralink, and built the driver (after changing the os/linux/config.mk file for the WPA supplicant settings). I also install the rt2870 firmware (from Ralink) in the /lib/firmware directory. I also blacklisted the rt2800usb driver to ensure that that didn't get loaded.
The problem I have is that I can now get both the ipw2200 device and the rt2870 devices 'working', but they both try to assume the same IP (I want fixed IP's and not DHCP for them) - what is the way to configure the 'devices' so that the rt2870 device is always given IP x and the ipw2200 given IP y?
I think my problem is really my lack of understanding where/how NM handles the files under the GUI config. I used to semi understand how the old network config tool set up it's files and where they were etc. But with NM I'm a bit lost as to how it equates the device with the network settings. Once I have the device working with the correct driver on my laptop, I'll look to apply the same settings on the server (which is then FC13 - but should be simpler as it doesn't have an existing wlan interface).
The symptom is that NetworkManager repeatedly ask for password to connect to my AP.My AP is secured with WPA-PKI. The problem even happens with Fedora 11 live cd if I'm not quickly configure wireless connection using NetworkManager right after Fedora completes booting up. It means if I promptly configure wireless connection, i'm still able to access Internet. Same thing happens for the first boot of Fedora from hdd. For the second boot or when I dont quickly configure wireless connection when system finished booting up, NetworkManger repeatedly asks for password for AP.
I did try several approaches posted in this forum but problem still persisted. Some of approaches I tried are:
since a few weeks I have a problem connecting to other hosts when I'm using another wireless network, which has a different DNS IP than I have in my network. I have to change /etc/resolv.conf to change the nameserver. Can NetworkManager control the nameserver? If yes, how?
I just loaded Suse 11.3 on my laptop. I can't get my wireless network to work. I tried via Yast and then switched back to Network Manager but nothing works.NM says that it is running, however I have no way to access it. No icon and I don't know where it is located or how to add to desktop panel.
Running 10.10 on Hp dv2000. Approx once a day wireless asks for password authentication but cannot re-connect to wireless network. I verified connection, correct password and modem & router functionality but still will not re-connect. After re-boot problem is resolved for another day or two.
The wireless disconnects intermittently and asks for the WEP password again and again. The network adapter is intel wireless/pro 3945 ABG. Please let me know what I can do to avoid this issue. When using 9.10 there is no issue in wireless connection.
I have been having a lot of problems trying to get my wireless card working. I am running ubuntu 10.04 and ever since the install, the wireless detects the network, asks me for the password, then, hangs for a while and asks me for the password again.
Its a fresh install.

I'd like a way to see all of the devices on my local network and what their local IP address is. I recall that I used wireshark to troubleshoot a similar problem a while back, but it doesn't seem to have a way to see all of the devices- only the traffic. (I'd like to do this without having to physically interface with my router if possible, and I am in an encrypted network if that matters)
I have installed a web server on my local network. Everything is well configured and web pages are shown correctly from Internet (outside the local network) using the domain or the public IP.The issue is if I try to see that web pages (using the domain or the public IP) from inside the local network. In that case the router config page (192.168.1.1) is shown instead of the web pages.From inside the local network I'm only able to see the web pages using the internal IP address (192.168.1.XX).
I want to write a custom rule to allow all connections to the ip addresses on my local network (192.168.2.2 through ...99) but I don't know how. I know adding a custom rule asks me to read a file and put it in "iptables" format, but I don't know how...
After reading and trying tons of tutorials and several OS reinstalls, I'm stuck trying to load wireless on my Dell Vostro 1400 laptop. Before you say search forums! I hurry to tell I did. No solution seems to work. WLAN chipset - Broadcom's BCM4311 / BCM 2050. 1st scenario - native CentOS 5.3 drivers Although CentOS recognize WLAN card and displays it's name correctly, neither network or NetworkManager sees any of wireless networks.
2nd scenario - Broadcom's drivers Most know Broadcom has released Linux drivers. I had some more luck with them than in 1st scenario although problems occur. After successfully compiling Kernel module, wireless networks are discovered and can be successfully connected but no pages load. It seems like DNS is not resolving at all and page loading timeouts instantly. Tested on TKIP-encrypted network.
I've got an Ubuntu server hosting our websites and other various things here in our own home. We recently switched to a router that doesn't support loopback (abomination), so I've set up hosts files on our computers so we can access our own sites when on our home LAN.
However, we often take our laptops as we travel about, and I'm guessing due to the hosts files when we try to access our sites, it'll look on whatever local network we're connected to for our server, which won't work, obviously.
Is there a way to set up something like a hosts file that'll only try to look up the local IP of the server when we're on a specific network (our home one), or have one that tries to look for the local IP first, then proceeds to try and resolve the domain name and use the external IP if the local IP doesn't work?
Is there a way of wireless networking without using the Gnome NetworkManager Applet? I want to connect to the Internet using a USB 3G modem and connect to wifi without knowing all of the details of every network.Network manager is pretty good but there seems to be no way of using it without starting an X session and it doesn't play nice with any other networking tool and reminds me too much of a Microsoft application.
I am using gnome's nm-applet as the client for NetworkManager. However, it seems that nm-applet will not save network passwords, so I have to retype the password on each connection. I already have gnome-keyring installed, so I'm not sure what the issue could be. I read online somewhere that secrets are retrieved through polkit or something, but I am completely unfamiliar with polkit and such.
I just got my Airlink AWLH5025 to connect using the instructions provided by Gentoo Wiki's article on Wireless Networking. I'd like to use NetworkManager, but I'm running into problems - launching it kills my connection, and even though it finds my network it won't connect to it.
Ubuntu desktop 9.04 Whenever I try to copy files to any machine on the network, the transfer stops and I no longer have access to the network or the internet. This happens whether I'm doing scp, copy with the gui, when copying to windows machines, and when uploading database files with phpmyadmin. I have been able to successfully transfer large amounts of data outside of the network via ftp, but not to any on the network. I've discovered that I can re-enable network access by restarting NetworkManager.
I am having a little trouble connecting to my wireless network. Running Fedora 10 32 bit.I'm trying to connect to a hidden wireless network. I updated the firmware for my driver but apparantly the driver is still not working. Broadcom has a driver from their website for Linux 32 bit systems. Should I attempt to install it? I read a post where the driver is built into the system kernel. If so I would need to blacklist the one of the drivers. Correct?

I live in an area of Australia were wired internet dare not tread (or so say the ISPs). My only real choice is 3G wireless broadband, and even that is iffy at times. Often late at night the network towers do "something" (reset, maintenance, etc. - no idea) and the internet drops out, networkmanager tries to reconnect, fails, tries again, (etc. etc.) until it ultimately gives up, requiring human intervention when the towers are done with whatever it is they are doing. This happens frequently, and I'd like to have networkmanager keep trying "forever" until it connects so I don't have to restart the connection each morning.
Where would such a thing be set? How does networkmanager know when to give up?
When I was running Ubuntu hardy my local network would stay up for as long as I kept the desktop machine running. Admittedly that was a different computer although it had the same wireless card.Now under Karmic at some undetermined time the network disappears. Unless I reboot the problem persists. After the reboot the network works fine until it does not.
For some reason, ubuntu cannot find local wireless networks. In fact, the Broadcom wireless card Ralink RT5390 802.11b/g/n seems to be incompatible with ubuntu. I've tried numerous 'solutions' on the Internet, but none of them seem to work on my computer. Tutorials I've visited have recommended downloading the b43 drivers from the Synaptic package manager and also the bcmwl-kernal-source package. Nevertheless, the wireless never turns on and Additional Drivers never shows anything at all. After several exasperating hours of trying to get my wireless running I've decided to turn to the forum for help. I'm sure there's probably more information I should supply, but I'm honestly not sure what that would be.
