Fedora Installation :: Upgrade Kernel And Enable Statistic Module In Iptables?

Apr 12, 2011

Here is my problem:

I need to enable the statistic module in iptables.

I had Fedora 13 32 bits, iptables-1.4.7-2 and kernel 2.6.18

But kernel 2.6.18 does not support statistic module.

So, I upgraded from Fedora 13 to Fedora 14.

Now I have Fedora release 14 (Laughlin) and Kernel 2.6.18
I did this to upgrade: url

Also, I did this too.

# yum update kernel

No Packages marked for Update

How can I ugrade to newer kernel?

Security :: Iptables State Module - Configuration Error / Not Enable Incoming Packets From Connections Initiated From Inside?

Mar 30, 2011

I have a server that I can only access via SSH (it's located far away) and I would like to secure it by blocking all ports except the ones that I need (which are HTTP and SSH). I still want to be able to make outgoing connections to enable software updates and other things. This is my iptables -L -n :

Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination
DROP tcp -- tcp dpts:1:21
DROP tcp -- tcp dpts:23:79
DROP tcp -- tcp dpts:81:65535

In my opinion, this should block all incoming packets except the ones on port 80 and 22, but allow responses to outgoing connections. But a wget http://google.com does not work, it can't establish the connection.

Maybe this is not the best style for iptables rules, but I want to be absolutely sure to not accidently lock myself out from SSH, so I chose not to configure a "block-everything rule".

Does this configuration not enable incoming packets from connections initiated from inside?

Fedora Installation :: Nvidia Removing Kernel Module

Jun 19, 2009

I had the 180.xxx nvidia drivers on my FC10 setup.I installed the 185.xxx and am running into issues. It gives me the fatal server error: no screens found message. Before that it says that the nvidia kernel module is 180.xxx and the driver component has 185.xxx. I can't seem to figure out how to uninstall the previous module to make this work. I removed the yum kmod nvidia. I'm running this using sh nvidia.185xxx.xxxx.run . The weird thing is that it sometimes would work but then I would restart and it would break again.
Thanks in advance,

Fedora Installation :: How And When To Load Kernel Module In Boot Up Process?

Jul 19, 2010

For a diskfull node (the OS installed in a disk), I can use the 'insmod' command to insert a kernel module into the kernel. And after the reboot, the module is still in the kernel. I have a question here: how, when and which kernel module will be loaded in the boot up process for a diskfull node? And for the diskless node, can I use the chroot or some other ways to install the kernel modules into ramdisk, so that kernel module can work when the diskless node boot up? I think it needs certain mechanism to load the kernel like the boot up of diskfull node.

Hardware :: B44 Module Won't Autoload After Kernel Upgrade?

Jun 24, 2009

Since I upgraded Jaunty from 2.6.28-13 to 2.6.30, I have to modprobe b44 by hand every time I boot the latter. I used the .debs in http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-pa/mainline/.I know I could just add it to /etc/modules or some .rc, but it loads without that in .28 and I really want to understand what changed (something else in /etc?) .

Debian Hardware :: With Kernel Upgrade To 3.16.0 Lost WiFi Module

Jun 7, 2015

I got notebook HP Pavilion 15-p171nr. Have installed Debian Wheezy. There was some problems, for example with screen brightness (backlight) and it was solved here: [URL] .....

The problem was solved with upgrading kernel 3.2.0 to 3.16.0 from backports... but... with these steps i lost my wi-fi wl module...

It was downloaded somewhere, compiled and worked well until kernel upgrade... For the current moment i can not compile it.

My hardware:
Code: Select all08:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM43142 802.11b/g/n (rev 01)

Within last steps official wiki recommends (my device is in the supported list): [URL] .... but I got problems with compilation... here they are:

I have installed correct linux-headers:

Code: Select allroot@hpnote:/home/yaroslav/Загрузки# apt-get install -t wheezy-backports linux-headers-amd64
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
linux-headers-amd64 is already the newest version.

[Code] ....

Then I am trying to reconfigure already installed broadcom-sta-dkms package and here is what I got:

Code: Select allroot@hpnote:/home/yaroslav/Загрузки# dpkg-reconfigure broadcom-sta-dkms
Deleting module version:
completely from the DKMS tree.
Loading new broadcom-sta- DKMS files...
Building only for 3.16.0-0.bpo.4-amd64

[Code] ......

OpenSUSE Install :: Kernel Upgrade On 11.1 - Cannot Find Module After Reboot

Nov 10, 2010

I've upgraded kernel to on openSUSE 11.1. Before I tried to upgrade to where I encountered the same issue. After reboot it can not find the modules for which puzzled me to no end. Now I have found that the /boot which is on separate partition of ext2 type is not mounted. The mount command does not recognize ext2 and xfs anymore.

Clearly the initrd does not have the right modules. Since this is standard zypper up process I would expect this to work without issues since it has worked until the kernel without issues. Has something changed with the last 2 kernel versions that requires some extra actions from me and if so what do I have to do.

Security :: Iptables 1.4.1 Mac Module Doesn't Work (error Message) - Fedora Core 8

Nov 25, 2010

I use iptables firewall (v1.4.1) installed on FC8. I'm trying to limit the inflow traffic for the port 1723 to certain MAC addresses. To experiment with the mac option, I've written the following iptables rule:

iptables -A INPUT -m -mac --mac-source 10:08:08:08:08:10 -j ACCEPT

It didn't work. It gave me this error message:

iptables v1.4.1: Couldn't load match `-mac':/usr/local/libexec/xtables/libipt_-mac.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Try `iptables -h' or 'iptables --help' for more information. Does that mean the mac module wasn't installed/enabled?

Fedora Installation :: F13 Kernel Upgrade, Os Will Not Start?

Mar 8, 2011

I just updated my kernel on Fedora 13. The bug update thing popped up, I clicked install, it asked me to restart, I did this, now the loading bar on boot gets to the end then stops and goes no further. A google search showed people using older versions of Fedora have had some issues similar because of their nVidia graphics card, which I also have, however I can't find a solution. There is no terminal to play with, no error message, so I have very little to go on. I have a java project for uni on there I need to rescue so any help would be very welcome.

Extra update, while starting up I pressed esacpe and was giving the option of an interactive start up which pretty much confirmed it was a problem with the nVidia card, told me that the driver wasn't installed with warning writern (is this a word?) next to it orange writing which didn't seem to positive. It seems that spamming escape earlier in the boot lets me play with grub. Using the old kernel to boot doesn't seem to help. So ready for those solutions now.....

Fedora Installation :: Kernel Upgrade-need To Copy To Another Bootloader?

Dec 25, 2010

I've just gotten another kernel upgrade, and need to copy it to a bootloader on another Linux sytem, so Fedora will boot, using legacy grub. The problem is that when I check /boot/grub/grub.conf, I get title Fedora ( root (hd0,2)

It's all Greek to me, but evidently it means something to grub, as that's what is in the Fedora kernel(s) that work. I can't find where this "bunch of stuff" is for the new kernel, so I can paste it into the grub file on the other system. The other system is Linux Mint9, and I've made Mint work using (legacy) grub, and deleted grub2 so that it's no longer Mint's bootloader.

Fedora :: Kernel Module Crash With Sound?

Dec 21, 2009

Sound disappears as soon as I try to use an application e.g. News Video Fox, CNN, BBC or playing a video disk or cd disk, and a kernel module crash is reported (listed below from logs) After this happens no sound, and the desktop freezes (X11 only Linux is fine). Restarting X obviously do not solve the problem.

It seems that Fedora 12 has sever problems with Intel Sound cards.

I guess it is not really a Kernel developers problem but more the authors for the sound module causing the crash. I already reported it through the popup to "kernel-oops" by clicking on the "black screen" popup reporting the crash on FC12.

Here follows the logs containing the crash info.
