Fedora Installation :: Upgrade RH9 To F10 - Install Fails - Installer Fails Media Check Due To "errors"

Jan 23, 2009

I am trying to upgrade RH9 to F10. I have downloaded dvd iso image i386. The SHA1 integrity check passes. The installer fails media check due to "errors". I did an independent verification of the DVD and zero errors found. Download was from Fedora's own torrent, so files should be verified anyway. If I bypass the media check I get the message : Running anaconda 11.4.1.62 the Fedora system installer - please wait.....

Fedora Installation :: 11 Installer Fails When Making A Partition?

Jun 12, 2009

When using the manual partitioner on the fedora 11 installer on the live cd, both for 64 bit and 32 bit, it will not allow me to create a new partition. I understand that I have four primary partitions and it cannot have more than that, so I tried deleting one of the partitions, then creating the new ext4 partition for F11. It still fails and gives me the same bugsee attachment)

how to read this, especially since there is so much there. I see at the top it says that there are 4 primary partitions, could it possibly still be seeing 4 primary partitions when trying to create the new one, even though I am deleting one of them? Other than this, I truly have no idea what else I can do.

EDIT: Attachment wont load up for some reason, here is some of the error file:

Ubuntu Installation :: 9.10 Installer Fails On Partitioning?

Feb 7, 2010

Whenever I try to install Ubuntu 9.10 x64 from a Live CD the installer freezes or quits when trying to partition the drive. I tried booting into the Live environment and using GParted but that would only let me make a ReiserFS partition without crashing. With the Reiser partition I tried the installation program again but this time the installer froze when trying to install the files.

My system specs are:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (3.0GHz)
4GB RAM
500GB SATA2 HDD
ATI Radeon HD 4770

Currently it also has a second SATA2 HDD with Windows 7 installed but I disconnect this during installations

Ubuntu Installation :: Upgrade From 9.10 To 10.04 Consistently Fails / Install It From Scratch?

Apr 26, 2010

While trying to upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04, I consistently get the error:

Failed to fetch http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/...e_1.34_all.deb Hash Sum mismatch

I've tried on multiple computers and on virtual box, in all cases using alt-f2 typing 'update-manager -d' and following the instructions from there. I've also tried downloading the link separately but get the same error.

Any ideas? Should I just install it from scratch?

Fedora :: Yum Extender GUI Installer Fails On Trying To Get Updates?

Jun 1, 2011

I think I need some command line help here. I am trying to download the initial updates using Yum Extender GUI in LDXE desktop. It downloads the updates until about 90% then If I get any error it craps out. I have gotten errors relating to no key avaliable, sorry don't remember the precise text, and also that no repo is avalable for a specific pacakge. At this point there are no options given to skip, etc... just "OK" and Yum Extender closes and I have to start over. It seems to start over about were it left of, this leads me to believe the packges are being stored some where on the drive.

Without using the GUI, hey I'm trying to switch from Windoz, Is there a command line that will tell Yum to download all updates and install and skip errors? I imagine there must be if this package installer is working, it must be talking to the system in a similar manor.

Ubuntu Installation :: Installer Fails To See Hard Disk ?

Feb 7, 2010

The Install program is failing to see the hard disk!

Now heres the really weird bit. The live cd can see the drive just fine.

I have created partitions using gparted and the disktool also sees the drive just fine but as soon as I go back to the installer it shows no hard disk!

It's a SATA drive which I suspect might be a part of the problem.

Is there a way I can install without the install program?

Is there a way to make the install program see the drive?

This is ubuntu 9.10 desktop.

Ubuntu Installation :: CD Fails - Installer Can't Get Username Or Password?

Sep 2, 2010

I am trying to install Ubuntu as a secondary operating system on my Windows 7 PC.

System specs as follows:
AMD Athlon II X4 620 Processor 2.6 Ghz
4.00 GB RAM
ATI Radeon 4600 series video card

I downloaded the 32-bit ISO image from ubuntu.com and burned it to a CD. When I try to boot, I get a purple splash screen with a couple of icons on the bottom. Shortly thereafter, I get another screen that says Ubuntu and has 5 dots on it that change color from red to white in sequence. During this time, my CD drive is active. After a very long time, the drive goes quiet and I get an error that the installer can't find the username or password. I don't remember the exact text of the error message. The system was hung and required a hard boot to recover.

Reading these forums, I rebooted the computer and this time pressed the escape key once the display had changed to the Ubuntu with the dots. The username/password error came up quickly and was followed by several "Bus error" messages. I ejected the CD and restarted the computer in order to come here for enlightenment. I'm reasonably good with Windows but a total neophyte when it comes to Linux. I'm going to try it again and this time record the exact error message (which is what I should've done initially).

Ubuntu Installation :: 9.10 Video Fails On Boot - Install - Upgrade And Live CD

Jan 24, 2010

When I ran the distribution upgrade from 9.04 in update manager, my screen went blank on reboot and will not recover. Every time I reboot, screen goes blank. I cannot press CTRL-ALT F1 - F6 to gain access to text shells.

I tested booting from the 9.04 live CD and it works fine. So I downloaded the 9.10 live cd on another computer and booted it on the disabled system. Same exact problem on the live CD that I had upon installation: on boot screen goes black and cannot access text shells.

What can I do next to get out of this short of going back to 9.04, which has problems that I do not want to live with?

Debian Installation :: Lenovo 100S Fails To Run Installer / No Keyboard

Nov 25, 2015

This laptop has been in the mainstream news as the cheapest Windows laptop available. Unfortunately it has a 64-bit CPU with 32-bit UEFI that dumps to the grub shell before installation. In addition, the built-in keyboard does not work.

As far as the dump to shell problem, this seems like something is not setup correctly in the grub UEFI configuration. This "hybrid" notebook should be using the multi-arch as I understand the situation. I noticed there is no grub configuration file in the multi-arch netinst ISO when I mounted it and looked around. I also noticed the standard netinst ISO is not easily mountable: there are errors when I try to mount the individual partitions to inspect the grub configuration. Additionally, Kubuntu boots perfectly aside from the keyboard issue. Devuan also boots when I modify the netinst to bypass gummiboot and use grub directly. Finally, the multi-arch grub shell freezes up when autocompleting and searching through the drives for the grub config, leading to a forced reboot. As an extra note, I tried 2 different flash drives and CD install media with the same results.

I tried many, many grub kernel combinations to fix the keyboard issue. It works in grub, but not in Linux. I was ultimately going to try a newer kernel to fix it.I was in a hurry to get something set up so back to the store it goes.

Debian Installation :: Jessie 8.3.0 Installer Fails To Load Software

Mar 10, 2016

I am trying to clean install Jessie 8.3.0 onto an old PC, where I already have wheezy 7.7 working. I am using the 3 DVD- i386, which passed the integrity check.

Installation goes on smoothly till completing the "Select and Install SW" stage from 1st and 2nd DVD. At this point I get the warning that "Installation step failed, ..", giving the choice to repeat.

When repeated, the process gets completed (without asking for 2nd DVD), the new installation boots normally, but the KDE desktop opens irregularly, with some basic applications missing, and some flaws during certain operations.

The APT does not show any missing/broken link. I tried and repeat the installation with different choices as for kernels and/or desktops, but got the same result. I cannot guess where the problem originates, nor whether it is a known bug of the installer.

Fedora :: Computer Fails To Boot From Any Media

Dec 10, 2009

My computer refuses to boot. When I try to boot from my hard drive, it's just stuck at that annoying little thing in the upper left corner, blinking, driving me crazy

When I try to boot from a live media it just gets stuck at "ACPI: Core revision 20070126"

I've tried various CD's and it's just telling me the same thing. I can't figure out what is wrong.

Lately my i've experience that for some reason my computer would just turn off, and sometimes reboot.

I've read a little about ACPI, and it's a shortening for Advanced Configuration and Power Interface.

When entering my BIOS and going to the "Power"-tab i have the possibillity of enabling ACPI 2.0 support. Don't know if this is a good idea though, and i won't risk destroying my computer

Hardware configuration:
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3.2Ghz
Motherboard: Some old ASUS

Fedora Installation :: 10 Install Failure After Media Check

Mar 25, 2009

Is failing on me after the media check (whether or not I do it), so not even making it to the language selection. Currently running a nvidia AGP video card was previously using an ati PCI card but swapping has done little to help.

The only argument that lets me passed this point is noprobe, which then fails a bit later as it can't pick up the install media. I've also tried a live CD which seems to be a bit hit and miss as to whether or not it even loads. It then either fails to even let me run the install to HDD or it comes up some error about failures in python code (Don't have the exact error as the last few times haven't even booted). Below is a couple of errors I get from the standard installer

Debian Installation :: Installer Fails To Recognize SSDs Attached To Intel Ctrl

Oct 14, 2014

I am currently trying to install Debian Wheezy 7.6 x86_64 on an Intel Server System R2224GZ4GC4, but the Installer doesn’t recognise any of the devices attached to the onboard SATA controller.

Debian Version
Debian Wheezy 7.6 x86_64

Hardware used
Server: Intel Server System R2224GZ4GC4
Motherboard: Intel S2600GZ4
Onboard SATA Controller: Intel Patsburg 4-Port SATA Storage Control Unit (rev 06)
Device on Port 0: Samsung 840 Pro Series SSD
Device on Port 1: Samsung 840 Pro Series SSD
Device on Port 2: Samsung 840 Pro Series SSD
Device on Port 3: Intel 510 Series SSD

While the onboard SATA controller does support so-called “fake RAID,” this ‘feature’ has been disabled (i.e., the BIOS setting “SAS/SATA Capable Controller” is set to “INTEL(R) RSTe”). This is confirmed by the controller during the boot-up URL...Weirdly enough, the Intel 510 Series SSD contains an old system (Debian Squeeze 6.0, Kernel 2.6.35-5-amd64), which can boot and which does recognise all SSDs.

Remedies tried
* I’ve compiled the list of SCSI, SAS and block device related modules that the Squeeze-System, which recognises the SSDs, used and manually loaded these modules during the install process.* I’ve tried to rescan the SCSI bus by:

Code: Select allfor host in /sys/class/scsi_host/*; do echo "- - -" > $host/scan; done* I’ve tried to remove all disks, save for the Intel 510 Serives SSD.* I’ve tried all of the above combined.

Fedora Installation :: Keyboard Fails During 11 Install

Sep 10, 2009

I am attempting to install Fedora 11 on a Dell Windows Server 2003 computer from CD (I just want to override the Server PC with F11). I used this media in my class last night after testing it, so I know the media itself is good. We did have lots of issues getting the keyboard and mouse to work during the install attempts last night, too, but eventually it worked. Unfortunately, at home is a different story!

I boot from install Disk 1 and get to the first screen with the option of testing the media or skipping it and I only get one keystroke then nothing. F11 just hangs/stops/freezes/locks up. Reboots don't help and I attempted to install from the F11 DVD I made, too, but the machine completely wouldn't see that disk at all! The keyboard is connected directly to the computer via PS2. I don't have a USB keyboard laying around nor an adapter to try.

I would love to hook up my children with F11! I did manage to figure out what files to download, burn to disk and how to install F11 at school yesterday).

Fedora Installation :: F12 Fails To Install Timezone

Feb 26, 2010

I'm newbie in Linux, but have used Windows and Mac OS X Leopard. Used RedHat in the past, and can't figure this out. I burned Fedora12-x86_64 DVD image on DVD, and start install. Whether I use "linux text" command from boot or just select Install at graphical prompt, everything goes OK until I select hostname. I leave it as "localhost.localdomain" and press Enter. It always give me an error "Can't load class=TimeZoneWindow".

My computer is connected via ethernet to my router, and I had no problems getting online in Windows. Now, in case there are hardware questions:
Intel Pentium 4 with HyperThread enabled and 64bit support (Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit runs perfectly in 64bit mode)
2Gb of DDR 400Mhz RAM
I have 2 SATA hard drives with RAID option as Mirror (BIOS settings - RAID or AHCI)
And 128Mb ATI RAdeon X300 series. Pretty simple, but this error aborts my installation.

I tried to do Anaconda updates, but I have no clue about URL where the image is, ex:
linux updates=[URL]
or I tried configuring network:
linux ip=192.168.1.113 netmask=255.255.255.0 gateway=192.168.1.1 dns=68.193.158.40,24.115.70.53
and no luck. Why does "Can't load class=TimeZoneWindow" appear? Is it a network issue or what? I've seen the screenshot for TimeZone screen in the Installation Guide, but I never get to it.

Fedora Installation :: Install Fails Due To Not Being Able To Mount

Dec 27, 2010

I am saddened that I can't install any Linux distro with ease on my HP m8530f computer which runs on a m2n78-la motherboard. It has a Phenom CPU, 6 SATA ports and probably a fakeRaid (at least that's what I guess is causing problem). The Fedora 14 Desktop install goes all the way to the end and then I get a fail message due to not being able to mount /dev/mapper/xxxxx.

P.S. the motherboard only has SATA mode or disabled for HardDrive mode and no any other options. Seems like this is an HP custom made motherboard from Asus hence the limited options in Bios setup.

Fedora Installation :: F13 Fresh Install From HDD Fails With Db_version_mismatch

Jun 7, 2010

I'm currently running F11 and am trying to replace it with a fresh install of F13, using the same partitioning layout. I downloaded the F13 i386 DVD ISO using bit torrent. (The sha256sum of my downloaded ISO matches the reference sha256sum value.) I'm trying to do the fresh install of this ISO from hard drive (without burning a DVD). Last summer I did the same procedure of installing a downloaded DVD ISO from HDD when replacing F9 with F11. The installer (Anaconda 13.42) proceeds to the point where I specify my custom partitioning layout. It then prompts me about storing a boot loader. Shortly after I reply to that, the installer gets an "unhandled exception".

rpmdb: Program version 4.8 doesn't match environment version 4.7
error: db3 error (-30971) from dbenv -> open: DB_VERSION_MISMATCH

The only nonstandard thing I did was the following. According to the F13 installation guide, for installation from HDD the file "install.img" from within the ISO files must be copied to a directory named "images". The F13 installation guide gives the following procedure:

mount -t iso9660 /path/to/Fedora13.iso /mnt/point -o loop,ro
cp -pr /mnt/point/images /path/images/
umount /mnt/point

Instead, I used "Archive Manager" to extract "install.img" from my DVD ISO. I copied it to a directory named "images".
