A few weeks ago, i installed Ubuntu Desktop 10.10. I installed several of my previously used programs and am now having trouble with the update manager. It refuses to download updates; insisting that it does not trust the source. The details in the error message indicate that the problem is with a package for Banshee Media Player. I am posting a link for a video I made that displays this problem. [URL]
I installed F12 to a live USB stick. When I boot up the system it says there are several hundred updates available. I've tried to update packages, but when I reboot the updates that claim to have been made do not appear. The system reverts to its original state after reboot.
So is it possible to do this? Can one have persistent packages? (this does seem to work with ubuntu)
Or is F12 on a live USB stick supposed to be pretty much the same thing as having a live (read-only) CD?
What I'd really like to do is have a small version of F12 on a USB stick that has up to date packages I need while dropping the packages I don't need.
i tried to make my desktop 3d so i type in terminal following command sudo apt-get install compiz-fusionbut it give the error "Couldn't find package compiz-fusion" why dis error comes plz tell me how to solve it i am a new user for ubuntuHow to install the required package Please tell me exextly what i have to it
I am creating custom install media using the Fedora Core 14 DVD as a base and I have gathered all of the packages and their dependencies I require using the yumdownloader command.I made sure to download the @core group along with the ones listed above. The problem I'm running into is that I don't know how to update the media's repo information to reflect some of the updated packages I have downloaded. So when I go to install on the device, it's saying it can't read/open a certain package and you can see that it's looking for an older version because I'm guessing its repo is telling anaconda that this is the specific version to look for. I'm looking for a way to "update" the repo found on the installation media.
I have a problem with the kernel update to 184.108.40.206. Up until 2.6.33.x my system boots fine, but with this update the boot stops at the moment that the mouse cursor should become visible. To resolve the problem, I've gone back to 2.6.33.x and removed the 2.6.34 kernel but I wonder what happens with the next kernel update. Anyone else having this problem?
Whenever I do sudo apt-get or use the Ubuntu Software Center, I can't download anything because a message comes up saying "Action requires installation of untrusted packages: The action would require the installation of packages from not authenticated sources." I've been trying to download GIMP and Thunderbird, so... I dunno what the problem is.
I got a problem while updating KDE from 4.1.2 to 4.2. In our college we can't download more than 20MB officially. So I'm unable to get kdegames which is 32MB from Konsole so I downlaoded it using proxy and I copied it into the /var/cache/yum/updates/packages/ folder and now using this command (yum groupinstall 'KDE (K Desktop Environment)').
I tried to update to KDE 4.2 using Konsole but it is showing: Error Downloading Packages: 6:kdegames-4.2.0-1.fc10.i386: failure: kdegames-4.2.0-1.fc10.i386.rpm from updates: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.
And even by double-clicking the KDEgames rpm file I'm unable to install it is saying GPG (I'm not sure GPG or not, start with G i think) Key missing so it is taking too much time and not doing anything.
I just installed ubuntu 10.10, and im triying to update, when i uncheck the packages that i dont want and click on the "install updates" button in the update manager, the update manager check it again and download the packages that i dont want
E: Type 'ain' is not known on line 3 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/gnome3-team-gnome3-natty.listE: The list of sources could not be read. i get this error when i try to update my packages, anybody know a fix?
After a hiatus, I'm fussing with Fedora again. I'm using the 64 bit version of R13. A screen popped up saying I needed to apply fixes to the installion. The maintenance process fails, when tried several times.
FWIW, I get an analogous error associated with packages trying to install Flash into FireFox.
Is it possible that the package archive has been corrupted?

I just installed RPMFusion free and non-free, and now update manager is telling me that it needs to install updates "RPM Fusion (free) Repository Configuration" and "RPM Fusion (non-free) Repository Configuration". When I try to install these I get a message asking 'Do you trust the source of the packages?" and i click 'Yes", it then asks for a password for authentication, and then I get message saying "Could not update packages. Failed to process request" and under more details:
