Fedora Installation :: Gnome Failed To Start - Some Features Not Available
Aug 20, 2011
I am having some problems installing Fedora 15 64-bit. I use the install DVD. I have an AMD Phenom and a NVidia 8600GTS. When I install using the normal method, my screen freezes somewhere in the settings screen for choosing the computer name. If I use the basic video driver for installing I have no problem. However after everything is installed, and Fedora starts, Gnome says that it failed to start and some features are not available.
I found some information at [URL] that I tried. However after installing kmod-nvidia and rebooting I no longer see any graphical display. A lot of text is on the screen without any error, but no x-windows appears. What can I do to install Fedora correctly and have a good working system? Is the 32-bit version easier to get it working? How can you recover from a system that does not start? What I could do to recover from it.
GNOME 3 Failed to Load Unfortunately GNOME 3 failed to start properly and started in the fallback mode. This most likely means your system (graphics hardware or driver) is not capable of delivering the full GNOME 3 experience.
.The interface is now Gnome 2. I have not change screen resolution 1280720, now is 1024x768.

I upgraded Sunday evening from FC14 to FC15 using the yum preupgrade method. Services such as httpd, vsftpd, sshd, named and even the VNC server are all running. I can connect via VNC client and get a downgraded gnome desktop, but from the console, I cannot start X or gnome desktop.I have searched many threads over the last day+ and found many references to problems with nVidia drivers - and I have a nVidia adapter. but I am not sure what is next to do and need a lead.
I finally got my system to boot to a console prompt. This is a fresh installation of fc10 that I have struggled to get working with my old Adaptec 2940 scsi hardware. I am a little fuzzy on the whole gtk, gdm, gnome thing. So how do I go from this console prompt to configuring the new installation with desktop? So let's say I am logged on as root on the console.
After a great deal of pain I have Fedora 15 running in Virtual Box 4.1 on a older Mac Book Pro running Lion. When I boot Fedora 15 I get a black screen. I can get a virtual console by banging on the fn ctrl option f2 keys I can then use 'startx' to get another black screen but clicking around for a bit gives me the gnome fallback windowing. Is there any way I can force the gnome fallback to start up directly on a reboot?
I was working on my Drupal test site (running Fedora 11) when it froze. I had to hold down the power button to get it to shut off. When I booted back up, I received the error message "Your system had a kernel failure" after logging in. When I tried to access my test site's ip address or 127.0.0.1, I get the error message "unable to connect". However, I can access and log into Webmin (version 1.440) at 127.0.0.1:10000. Then I noticed that my Apache Web Server (Apache version 2.2.15) was not started. When I try to start it, I get the error message:"Failed to start apache. I'm using Fedora 11, Drupal 6.2 and Apache version 2.2.15.
Then by issuing lynx --source url | bash command as root i could install gnome. There was no error during installation. Then after reboot i try to log to gnome by issuing gdm command. It ask my user name and password. I have a double problem here. I had a problem with ubuntu which I more or less took care of but at the loss of much information but that is neither here nor there. The problem has to do with the here and now. I purchased a ubuntu 10.04 LTS CD. I installed it and partitioned it with my win xp. All seemed to go good but the problems seem to arrive when I booted to the other partition side.
I am able to select the windows xp side and hit enter and and boot to xp. However when I wanted to go to the ubuntu side of things this is where the problems happens. I click enter the ubuntu selection and this error shows up."Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt. <windows root> system32hal.dllPlease re-install a copy of the above file."
The only way I can of getting to the ubuntu side is by inserting the ubuntu cd into the cd/dvd drive. However when I do I get this message."Installation Failed. The installer encountered an unrecoverable error. A desktop session will now run so you may investigate the problem or try installing again."I am hoping that someone here will be able to assist me in finding an solution to my dilemma.
I have just run a fresh install of Kubuntu on an old PC to try it out for a few weeks. The Boot CD works fine and there is a GUI for the install. It seems to detect all the devices without a hitch. But when the PC reboots it boots into command line. When I try to run startx it gives me "AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0"I looked up the x.org website and in the FAQ Here it says "This kind of problem typically occurs when you're using a big monitor with an old graphics card. You can solve it by deleting some of the highest resolutions of the deepest colour mode in the Screen section of your xorg.conf, or even the whole last Display subsection."I am using an old pc with old graphics card with a 25inch HP LP2465 monitor. in my /etc/X11 there is only a xorg.cof.failsafe file. anyone any ideas on how to do this. The full error is attached in a very bad screenshot.
For some weird reason dhcpd fails to startup, but when I installed gadmin's dhcpd GUI configuration tool and click activate to start the DHCP server. It works, but for some reason I can't get it to start like a regular service. (Service dhcpd start) Fails without a error code or message.
On my server Linux Redhat i want to configure dhcp server but when i check the dhcp status the dhcpd was stopped and i try to invoked or to start it failed. Even when open the graphical mode service configuration, check the box and click start the output error message is dhcp failed. the error: Starting dhcpd:Failed. How would i start the dhcpd service to run
I've been trying to get my internal microphone to work in F12, and as part of the things I've tried I had the seemingly bad idea of reinstalling pulseaudio. The problem now is that pulseaudio fails to start... The following is from /var/log/messages, and is repeated several times:Code:Nov 24 08:51:20 localhost pulseaudio: main.c: Daemon startup without any loaded modules, refusing to work.
I have fedora 12 32 bits installed on a Macbook pro (intel core duo) I did "yum update" this morning, I have restarted the system and got the following message:Starting abrt daemon: abrtd: Failed to start: got sig 2 FAILEDI have browsed in the web but I cannot find useful information. Then I typed:$rpm -qa | grep abrt
I rebuilt my box with Fedora 14. installed httpd, mysql php etc. when I tried to start my httpd it was giving me error about finding the root document and server name I was able to fix temp the issue with the name by placing ServerName 192.168.1.105:80 in the httpd.conf file and the root document somehow was fixed also. but I am still can't start the httpd and no error message except that it failed. I also disabled Selinix but still no luck.
I have configured the remote installation of Fedora 13 with kickstart with nfs installation method. All work ok until I boot the Fedora 13 client system.
Fed13 client system receives the IP address from dhcp, receives the loader, loads vmlinuz and initrd.img from tftp, load anaconda, configures the network and dev eth0, mounts nfs server to load kickstart file, loads kickstart file (language...) but when it tries to mount nfs server to install from Fedora 13 installation tree it fails.
First, I thought that I had an error on my NFS configuration but I was wrong. I opened tty with ALT+F4 on the Fedora 13 client and I sew this error:
Is this a bug or can I modify anything to correct this error? How?
As someone says,I install fedora 15 in VisualBox,and before installing I choose "Enable 3D acceleration",but when entering the desktop,I just see "Gnome 3 failed to load".Earlier of today,I try this in VMware Workstation, there is the same question. Why this happens? Is that means I will miss the Gnome 3 in VisualBox and VMware Workstation.....for God's seek...
I just got the problem while starting the dhcp daemon. Its showing failed. I need to start it for my clients to be autoinstalled. I am having CentOS 5.2 linux. I've installed all optional packages also while installing CentOS. How to start the dhcp daemon? I've tried the /etc/init.d/dhcpd start also. But it didnt work. Showing Failed.

I wanted to try openSuse alongside with Windows Vista and Ubuntu. During the installation Suse wanted to delete my Windows partition. Of course I denied and stopped this installation, but now when starting my computer, the boot menu gives Vista, Ubuntu and Suse as a choice, but if I choose Vista, the Suse installation process is starting instead of Windows, there is no way to get Windows started (fortunately Ubuntu is working so that I can write this message). How can I get Windows starting?
I have built my own custom Fedora 15 spin, the problem is that every time it show me GNOME 3 Failed to Load message dialog with the following message: "Unfortunately GNOME 3 failed to start properly and started in the fallback mode ....." Is there anyway to disable this dialoag?
