Fedora X86/64bit :: Kernel Installation With I386/i686 Configuration Set

Jul 24, 2009

I'm currently using FC 9 - 2.6.27 x86_64. (In my Hp - nx6320 laptop with- Intel centrino Duo processor). I have downloaded linux-2.6.30.2. How do I install this with i386/i686 configuration set. All that I want is a 32 bit - linux-2.6.30, because NCTUns 5.0 works only with the 32-bit kernel. I have tried following:

Code:
make ARCH=i386 menuconfig
After this, I see the architecture set to "X86_32 = Y" in the .config file. But later, after I run

Code:
make bzImage
The configuration restarts asking to select Y/N for various packages and modules. I have no much idea on what to select and what not to, in order to retain X86_32 set. I end up with the new .config file with contents as below after the make bzImage command.

Code:
#X86_32 is not set
X86_64 = y
Again it is going to be built as a X86_64 bit kernel.

How to install the kernel as 32-bit along with the existing FC-9 64 bit kernel.

Only I can't install CentOS 5.5 due to an Anaconda exception at the very end of the initial setup process, right before it's supposed to start copying the files. Is it true that CentOS/RHEL requires an i686 compatible processor? As far as I know the Geode LX is only i586 and Redhat's system requirements only list x86 as necessary.

Fedora :: Virtualbox Error 'Failed To Open Session For Virtual Machine Windows 7'

Jun 6, 2011

When i try to create a virtual machine using the Windows 7 Enterprise Evaluation iso file, everything goes as planned untill i click on the start button. when i click on it i get two error messages. the first: Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Windows 7. The virtual machine 'Windows 7' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1. Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908). The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. reinstall the kernel module by executing

'/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup'

as root. Users of Ubuntu, Fedora or Mandriva should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary. i have installed the DKMS package, but when i try to run the command stated in the error message, i get another error message in the terminal:

[code]...

i have to install the driver that is specified (vboxdrv) but i do not know where to find it.

Fedora Installation :: Error - The File Upstart-sysvint.0.65.9.fc14.i686.rpm Cannot Be Opened

Nov 20, 2010

it's the installation media or the ISO is broken because i have reburned / redownloaded the fedora14 multiple times with the same result. I even tried burning the disc on a different computer just to make sure the burner is still working. This is the error i am getting when the "Starting installation Process" dialog displayed.

"The file upstart-sysvint.0.65.9.fc14.i686.rpm cannot be opened. This is due to a missing file, a corrupt package or corrupt media. Please verify your installation source" I remember fedora 13 and below i have to use nousb command or something similar to get fedora installed properly but not for fedora 14. It just pops up with the message above.

Red Hat / Fedora :: Unable To Install RHEL 5.2 On I686 Machine

Jun 16, 2010

I am not very new to LINUX. I was using UBUNTU for the last 1 year and I have switched to Redhat now because I am thinking of taking a RHCE certification now. Actually the problem is that I am unable to install RHEL 5.2 i386 on my i686 machine, I have bought it recently 1 week ago. I tried to use the boot parameter "linux noprobe" then it said drivers not found after 2 steps when it loads drivers.

When I tried to make a GUI install it hanged after "loading /sbin/loader" and said "kernel panic - not syncing". And when I tried to make a text install it said hanged agin after "loading /sbin/loader" and said something like "Oops: 0000 [#1] SMP". If drivers are needed then when can I get those and how can I install those drivers? here is my hardware information as "lspci" says:

It takes forever to get past the initial white/blue loading bar when it first boots and then it just goes white, so I can't see anything. I've already tried modifying the bootline parameter of the live CD to include noprobe, noacpi, noapic, nousb, and nofirewire. However, the result is the same. Am I missing something? Fedora Installation :: Install Fedora 10 From Vista In Virtual Machine

Feb 14, 2009

I am an inexperienced Linux user, I have tried Knoppix and Ubuntu in the past. Since we use Fedora servers at work I have wanted to try Fedora for some time and I tried running it in a virtual machine. My virtual machine is Sun VirtualBox and my OS is Vista Ultimate. Everything worked well until it was time to decide where Fedora is to be installed.Alright, screenshot time yet? This is where I hit the wall, the screen where you select installation drive/partition. The field is greyed out as you can see.

I have prepared a partition, at first I formatted it in FAT32 but because I didn't see it in the installation screen I just re-formatted it in NTFS.Installing with virtual machine should be working? Why is the field grey? What to do? Is it because I have mounted the dowloaded disc image instead of burning it?
I have a 64-bit architecture AMD processor with 2GB RAM and have tried Ubuntu 64-bit in the past, is there a 64-bit version of Fedora and would that be better or worse for me than 32-bit version?

I installed the Centos 5.5 with XEN and put 03 virtual machines (Centos 5.5 too). I did this correctly, but I have a problem. In the virtual machine, I need update the kernel. I used "yum update kernel" and this is downloaded correctly and the menu.lst file is updated too, but the kernel not ran. I ran "grub-install /dev/sda" or "grub-install /dev/xvda" and received a error return. I read the device.map file and i ran "grub-install /dev/sde" and received a error return too.

The errors:
[root@vm01 ~]# grub-install /dev/sda
/dev/sda: Not found or not a block device.
[root@vm01 ~]# grub-install /dev/sde
/dev/sda1 does not have any corresponding BIOS drive.

Fedora Installation :: Make A Virtual Machine Using Exiting Installed Windows 7 On Laptop HD?

Dec 4, 2010

I have a Lenovo T500 laptop with 4 GB RAM. I have installed Windows 7 64bits OEM on my laptop HD. I also installed Fedora 14 on my USB External Hard Drive which it has it own boot sector. I don't want to have a dual boot. So if I plug in my external HD to my laptop and turns the machine on, it automatically my Fedora comes up, other wise my windows 7. (I set up start-up boot drive , first to USB External HD and then internal HD)

I installed KVM (Virtual Machine Manger) on my Fedora 14 and I am trying to install windows 7 64bits OEM on my Fedora 14 as Virtual Machine. After setting everything and start installing windows form CD, I got BLUE SCREEN right after "WINDOWS FILES LOADING..." finished. it shows me a blue screen and then it will stop

Questions:

1- How can I fix that problem?
2- Is ther way to make a Virtual Machine on my Fedora using my exiting installed windows 7 on my laptop HD?
