Fedora Hardware :: Webcam Lag - Dodgy And Blurs Motions

Nov 12, 2010

I picked up a cam for my old laptop earlier today and i was pleasantly surprised how crisp and fluid it worked with cheese...too bad that didn't last... now, it lags and is dodgy and blurs motions. i haven't permanently changed any settings here in Fedora 14... but even after restarts, i can't get it to be that sharp again. i've tried turning down the resolution in Cheese, which didn't work even in the slightest...and also, i've tried using gstreamer-properties to manually set the default output as (X11/XShm/Xv)...which did nothing, even after restart. i recall having issues like this in earlier versions of Fedora with different cams... what's the deal?

Fedora :: Gnome-shell Repo For F13 Has Dodgy RPM Dependencies

Jul 24, 2010

This isn't the first time this has happened and it can get *very* frustrating but when I tried to install gimp today I got:

Code:

Error:

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem

You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

So I then did a quick

Code:

Is there something I am overlooking here or is the GIMP installation (in)correctly asking for misnamed dependencies? If so, is there a way to report this to the RPM repo to ensure it is corrected quickly?

Ubuntu :: Bright Pink Boot Screen With Dodgy Text After Playing With Startup Manager In 10.04?

May 28, 2010

today while using 10.04 Lucid Lynx 64 bit I decided to do something about the low resolution boot screen, I've seen the bugs thread but I thought startup manager would be the way to go Anyway I changed the resolution and the bits to the highest they would go I rebooted and I got the normal coloured boot screen but no logo just text, then I tried disabling text and enabling the boot logo Then I rebooted and the same thing again Then I removed startup manager and the whole boot screen turned bright pink and still had a text logo!

Ubuntu :: Boot ... Freezes And Stops Responding To Keyboard Input - Dodgy Package To Blame?

Jul 26, 2011

My trusty 11.04 x64 Ubuntu desktop machine stopped booting up properly about 2 weeks ago - it goes through Grub and into Plymouth, but then freezes and stops responding to keyboard input either on a dark purple screen, or less often the same but with the Ubuntu logo and the 5 boot progress circles but with none of them lit up. I can hit escape early on after grub and see initialisation reports showing everything successful (other than a fail on "Automatic crash report generation") - up to a line saying "Stopping System V runlevel compatibility [OK]", at which point it freezes.

Going into recovery mode allows me to fsck the disk (which is fine, and smartctl reports all attributes as fine), fix packages (which I have done a number of times, to no avail) and boot into safe graphical mode, which works fine, albeit only on one monitor and with very poor graphics performance, obviously. As the machine was borked and everything was backed up on my fileserver anyway, I decided to nuke it and give Fedora a go (I've been using Ubuntu since Feisty and it was a good time to try something else). Fedora was fine (and worked with the default nouveau driver), but I didn't like it, so after less than 24 hours away from the fold I decided to come back to Ubuntu.

At least a reinstall should fix the problem with booting, right? Wrong! The live CD worked fine, installed perfectly, and the machine behaved itself upon first reboot - at which point I ran apt-get dist-upgrade, restarted, and blam - right back where I started. Updated vanilla Ubuntu 11.04 will not boot. Has Ubuntu released a dodgy package that has broken my x server? I don't want to have to go back to 10.10 -

Fedora Hardware :: Delete Webcam Driver?

Aug 27, 2010

I am pretty concerned with my build-in webcam. The problem is, that it does not work properly and I guess that the driver crashes my interrups to access it. Now, I cannot find this driver - so where is it gone?

Fedora Hardware :: Webcam Not Allow Changes To Save As Defaults?

Oct 24, 2010

I have a webcam that seems to work well in fedora, but it doesn't seem to allow me to save defaults after making changes to the brightness. If I reboot the machine everything reverts to the original settings. Using v4l2ucp, I am able to increase the exposure, but this setting is lost every time I reboot. For various reasons, it is important that I am able to load a default exposure value after rebooting. My camera is using the STV06xx driver. The lsusb displays the following about this device:
Bus 004 Device 002: ID 046d:08f0 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Messenger

Fedora :: Webcam Does Not Work - Xawtv Package Error

Jun 18, 2010

I have a standard Fedora 13 system where it is runnign fine, there it uses the uvcvideo kernel module and gives me a picture in resolution 640x480. Then I have a second system, based on Fedora 8, stripped down to a minimum size (it is working as headless system) and with a self-made kernel 2.6.33.5 that has compiled in i2c-core, v4l1, v4l2 and uvcvideo. There the webcam does not work, as soon as I try to access it with "webcam" of xawtv package I get an error

[Code]....

Beside of that v4l-info tells me, that it can handle a resolution of 176x144 only (instead of 640x480). Beside the difference of the resolution the output of v4l-info is identical on both systems.

Fedora :: QuickCam Ultra Vision" Webcam With A Microphone?

Oct 19, 2009

I own a "Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Ultra Vision" web cam with a microphone. I have successfully installed it, I can get fedora to recognize it and even view video through all the web cam applications I've tried including vlc, cheese, and camstreem. It was automatically detected by Fedora and took no "tweaking" of my own. The problem I'm having is I don't know how to access the audio. When I go to the pulse audio applet or volume contol (mixer) I can see my quick cam as in input, and I can even watch the audio meter move and respond to sounds I am making. But I don't know how to tell any applications where to get sound from... my video source is /dev/video0, what is my audio source? Since my audio level meter moves when i say things or make sounds, I assume it is there and ready, I just don't know how to access it. I figure this should be pretty simple. I'd like to be able to record video/audio, or even just use the mic separately.

Fedora :: Philips PWC Kernel Webcam Driver Not Working Correctly

Mar 7, 2011

The Fedora 14 (and 13) pwc Philips Webcam Driver.is only supporting 160x120 resolution (and nothing higher such as 640x480). Also not supporting some other things correctly, I suspect.I say so having tested multiple web camera software and either they don't work (because they have no setting for low res) or they do work if settable to low res., but not for any higher res.I also have a working setpwc tool which shows the driver does not support framerate resetting.I have a Toucam and Toucam Pro - same for both. Also these units worked fine under Fedora 11, and under earlier versions even Red Hat 4.But I usually got the latest pwc from Saillaird.org and compiled it to get full support but there are no more current sources there anymore, and the older ones don't compile. But as I am saying under F11 it was fully correct, now under F13 and 14 it is broken.
