Fedora Hardware :: FC13: Xorg Fails To Start On "Intel Corporation 82G33 / G31"
Jun 6, 2010
I have installed FC13 (x64) but X Server fails to start on my machine having "Intel Corporation 82G33/G31" Integrated Graphics Controller. find the attachments xorg.conf & Xorg.0.log. My smolt id is [URL]...
Just got World of Warcraft Installed and when I start the game after I get past the 2 cinema's while I'm trying to click yes on the rules the screen seems to bee flashing over and over and over. I was thinking maybe the 3d accelerator isn't installed or maybe I need to install something because its Intel?
I'm running desktop Ubuntu 9.10 on my Dell laptop. Previously it was Ubuntu 9.04. After some period of time (lets say 3-4 months) my X fails to start automatically after some restart calls. If that takes place my network manager applet doesn't start either (after I do startx).
I get a perfect server boot meaning there's no Xorg started. Command line interface is all I get starting from login and further.
The Quadro dual-card has no problem driving two 19" monitors, but the GeForce will not wake the third 17" monitor from power save mode. The BIOS indicates that the Quadro is the primary card. I am trying to use Xinerama to activate the GeForce. So far I have only seen the GeForce and 17" monitor work if the Quadro is physically removed. In all cases I have been using nouveau. I'll attach my xorg.conf, Xorg.0.log, and smoltprofile.txt. My xorg.conf shows two monitors: monitor0 (19") and monitor1 (17"). monitor0 is actually two identical monitors which the quadro treats as one large monitor.
I have a problem with the latest Fedora. Installed it cleanly on a machine with Gigabyte H55M-S2 with Intel Core i3. There seems to be no sound and I checked to see if anything is muted but is not. The manual says that the sound chip is ALC888B so this could be the first problem. Any ide how I can make it work? Here is a dump of some things on my system.

Just did a clean install on a Dell Latitude E6400 of Slackware 13.1 and, for the most part, all is working great. Got wicd installed and wireless came right up, nvidia drivers installed and video is fantastic, but for some reason my wired connection isn't happening. The device is detected, but I can't get an IP.

After updating to kernel-126.96.36.199-147.fc13.i686, my email (Thunderbird) fails to connect to the pop-server, and webpages (Firefox) load VERY slow, if at all. When I go back to kernel-188.8.131.52-85.fc13.i686, I have no problem at all.Network chipset: RTL8180
what is really a rant disguised as a question, but does anyone have this combination working? My NetGear router shows the connection as allowed from the MAC address in the router logs, And I can see the network I want to join in the list of visible networks from the laptop, but dmesg shows Ubuntu disconnecting with
WPA-PSK [TKIP] only: wlan0: disassociating by local choice (reason=15) WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES] wlan0: disassociating by local choice (reason=3)
I'm sure there is a simple explantion that has been sufficiently buried somewhere but after several hours of googling and searching the forums here I can't find it. Anyone want to help out an old man RTFM?
I'm getting really disappointed here lately - things are getting worse, not better. In my case in particular I have this laptop with supposedly open and supported drivers and they don't work, however, the exact same distributuon on a Dell D830 with a broadcom NIC does. under 8.10 and 9.04 this worked out the box - just logged in, gave the PSK and away we went. I can't see the attachment I just uploaded so to include the information requested in the "how to get help" post, I'll put it all here inline...

I have a problem with compiz and this card, after few weeks suddenly it doesn't work with ubuntu, I always had troubles with this kind of cards, I was always able to solve it by this forum but this time I gave up.
The driver for GM965/GL960 is working perfectly but the compiz effects although they are enabled they are not applied to the desktop environment.
The compiz-check output is:
Code: Gathering information about your system... Distribution: Ubuntu 11.04 Desktop environment: GNOME Graphics chip: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (primary) (rev 03) Driver in use: fbdev
I have a fairly new laptop, 2*1.8 Ghz, but when I try to run games more advanced than pac-man, it's about 1-0.5 frames / second. This doesn't seem right. I've goggled it, and found a few posts from 2008-2009, but nothing that actually helped. Does anyone have any idea, as to what might be wrong? If anyone has this card, I'd like to see what you have in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file...
I have been getting from my wireless adapter. This has been going on for quite some time but only now am I able to see a pattern. The behavior seems to be the following: Start up, connects to network and work fine until I suspend my machine. On wake up, it works again but after a seemingly random amount of time the connection is lost and I can no longer find any networks. Attached is dmesg output after startup and connecting to a wireless network (dmesgAfterConecting.txt) and the same after the connection has been lost (dmesgAfterConnectLost.txt). I get this error which seems important:
I am new to Ubuntu and I have problem with wireless connection. I could not find any wireless connection at all. I am now using wired connection. Sony Vaio SZ series, Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN My software details are:
$ iwconfig lo no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions.
About a year ago, I installed ubuntu on my ThinkPad X61, which was running windows. I basically just overwrote the hard drive, assigning one partition to the install. The graphics have always been a little buggy when it comes to 3d rendering or flash. Flash graphics flicker a lot and 3d rendering leaves trails or doesn't show up at all. Is there a way to configure the graphics card? I'm completely unexperienced when it comes to graphics cards and don't know where to start. I don't even know how to access its settings.
I've reinstalled Slackware 4 times today because of things I've messed up along my way, after upgrading the linux kernel I've had issues with getting back to desktop, so I'm on a clean slate right now with the exception of installing wicd. I need help since wireless is not working.. My wireless worked fine out of the box with Ubuntu,I don't understand why it is not working now... Using Slackware 13.1, Kernel 184.108.40.206
bash-4.1# ifconfig wlan0 up SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory
I recently tried to install the proprietary nvidia driver to my laptop, but after disabling nouveau have run into a problem. When I start X I get an error
Code: (EE) No devices detected
Fatal server error: no screens found
I believe the computer is trying to use the on-chip intel card instead of the nvidia card because "dmesg | grep video" specifies "pci 00:02:0: Boot video device", "lspci | grep 00:02.0" gives me "VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)
I have googled this issue all day and have not found a solution that works for me. nvidia-xconfig does nothing as doesn't "nvidia-xconfig --multigpus=on". Is there a way to specify which video card my laptop uses on boot? Maybe which my xorg.conf uses?
I'm releaving a HP Probook 4710S from it's native Vista) First of all let me say I'm happy because CentOs 5.6 handles it's Ati Radeon graphic flawlessly, unlike other Distro's I tried on this type of machine. So thumbs up for CentOs! But now I've come to a stop on the wireless card.
