Debian :: Ssh And Wireless Network Card - Port 22: No Route To Host If Use Eth0

Apr 12, 2011

Yesterday I installed a RaLink RT2800 802.11n PCI on my squeeze system. Now I have a connection to Internet but I can not connect other systems in my home network. An ssh-try to a system in my home network results in: ssh: connect to host xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx port 22: No route to host If I use my eth0, I do not have connection to Internet, but I can connect other systems in my home network.

I can ssh from the desktop to itself.

Networking :: Host A Service On Eth0 While Default Route Is A VPN?

Aug 21, 2010

I am attempting to run apache on my linux router while connected to a VPN. My default route is set to the VPN endpoint and I cannot control port forwarding at that end. I cannot seem to connect to any service that i bind to the eth0 interface. I believe that my iptables rules and OpenVPN are the source of the problem.

/sbin/iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o tun1 -j MASQUERADE
/sbin/iptables -A FORWARD -i tun1 -o eth1 -m state --state RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT
/sbin/iptables -A FORWARD -i eth1 -o tun1 -j ACCEPT

Networking :: Configure A Network Route To A Host For Testing Network Interface?

Aug 30, 2010

today I tried to configure a network route to a host for testing my network interface. Code: route add 192.168.1.15 eth0 As I have to eth interfaces and both interface got their IP from DHCP (192.168.1.11 and 192.168.1.12) and are in the same subnet, I shut the other interface down:

Code: ifconfig eth1 down Then I tried to test the interface by doing a ping to 192.168.1.15.
Problem: When I unplug the cable from eth0 (and eth1 is still plugged) the ping still works. Somehow my linux (it's debian) powers up again eth0 and pings over this port.

How can I stop my linux doing this. I just want to have the route added only on the one interface - not the other. Is it maybe some case of a default-gateway?

OpenSUSE Network :: SMTP - No Route To Host

Jan 3, 2010

OpenSUSE version: 11.2 *and* 10.0 I am unable to send email. It appears I am being blocked by my ISP [URL]... A Wireshark trace shows ICMP type 3 Code 13 - "Administratively filtered". It's important to note that I don't know exactly when the problem started, because I seldom use my ISP email account, I use Yahoo web mail due to the "throwaway" nature if I get hit with spam. I only discovered the problem when testing the functionality of 11.2. I suspect the problem started several months ago: I restored openSUSE 10.0 and the problem exists there too. I wish I'd sent that last email via 10.0 before the upgrade.

The weird thing is that using Windows 2000 box I can get a successful connection using telnet (Telnet also fails on the openSUSE box.) It appears to me there is something in the Linux TCP stack that Teksavvy doesn't like. I am on dial up and I pointed this out to Teksavvy tech support, as I am probably the only person left on dialup and the reason no one else has reported the problem

Debian :: Install Wireless Network Card On Desktop?

Mar 5, 2011

Here ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Networks - ASUS PCE-N13

you may download the driver and install it yourself; once you've succeeded, I am a one-time Linux convert and quitter that gave up on Linux a long time ago, because frankly it is too complicated and I'm just a user who needs to get things done today, not in the few weeks time it takes to figure these things out. Since Debian Squeeze got released I wanna test it out, but my PCI card, ASUS PCE-N13 needs to be set up.

Driver install too technically advanced.

The accompanying instructions are far from self-evident:

General :: Lost (wired) Eth0 After Installing Broadcom Bcm4328 Wireless Card / What To Do?

Dec 31, 2009

I have a dell mp1210 xps laptop. I just recently installed installed Ubuntu 9.10 and am very green. With difficulty I managed to install the drivers for the wireless card and now have wireless on the laptop. In order to get the wireless working I had to restart my computer, and once it booted up again the wireless works, but there is no trace of eth0-my wired network device (Broadcom BCM4401-B0) which was working fine before I got the wireless adapter working. Lspci still shows the device as it did when it was functioning, but ifconfig only shows my local loopback and wlan0 (my wireless device). I am not sure how eth0 got deleted, I am wondering if maybe I have to set up some sort of switching between the wired and wireless adapters so they are not both active at the same time. Any suggestions would be really nice, I have been digging through the forums, but I am unsure of what went wrong or what to do about it.

Ubuntu Networking :: Route Traffic From Wlan0 Through Eth0?

Dec 10, 2010

I'm running Linux Mint 10 . I have a wireless PCMCIA card (Linksys WPC 11 ver.3) that I've put into master mode, and I'm trying to set up my laptop as a wireless hotspot. I am very confident that I want to do this and have no interest in using a wireless router....I say that because that topic inevitably comes up with posts like this. The problem I'm having is I don't understand how to get wlan0 and eth0 to "talk" to each other...That is, I don't know how to set it up so that traffic from wlan0 goes through eth0, so that devices that connect to my hotspot can access the internet.I've seen a few guides about this, but they were either much broader in scope (i.e. much more complex), or for other distributions, etc, and it's too much for me to follow as a linux .

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Realtek NIC Installation - Unable To Configure The Network Card Because Kernel Device (eth0, Wlan0) Is Not Present

Nov 30, 2010

Installed a TP-Link TG-3269 Gigabit card in a machine running OS 11.3 32 bit, when I go into Yast, Network Devices, Network to try configuring the card I get this errormsg: Unable to configure the network card because the kernel device (eth0, wlan0) is not present. This is mostly caused by missing firmware (for wlan devices). See dmesg output for details. Couldn't find any mention of the card in dmesg's output, (though the 8139 onboard card is in there) there is some stuff about pci host bridge but I don't know whether they would be relevant or not

The chip on the card says it's rtl8169sc but lspci lists it as being 00:07.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Device 8369 (rev 10) Done some googling and there don't seem be any drivers for a Realtek 8639 and it returns no matches from a search on realtek's site, but there is a driver there for rtl8169sc chips, which I downloaded and installed, no errors when installing it Even after a reboot I still get the same error in Yast's Network Settings screen, lspci still lists it as 8369 and the device isn't listed at all if I run ifconfig

Debian Configuration :: Complex Network Setup - RPI To Automatically Route Internet

Jan 26, 2016

I would like to update my network setup.

Today, I have an ADSL box which is my gateway to internet (192.168.0.1).

I have a Raspberry pi (RPI) which I use as a dhcp & dns server (192.168.0.2).

Recently my mobile phone operator installed a 4G antenna beside my home, and the bandwidth and latency are much better with my mobile phone than with my internet provider (ADSL).

I would like to install a wifi dongle on my RPI (I would get wlan0 & eth0 interfaces)

When RPI detect my shared phone connection (tethering) I would like RPI to automatically route internet:

- from authorized devices on my network to my mobile connexion (wlan0 -> mobile phone).
- from other devices to the standard ADSL internet (eth0 -> ADSL box).

I don't want any device to use the shared 4G connexion, best would be authorized devices to be selected by MAC address. How I should properly setup such a network ?

I wanted to test the new mail server by sending an E-mail message to it from the old one, but the maillog says

[code]...

I can ping from A.domain.com to B.domain.com and from B.domain.com to A.domain.com . I can traceroute -p 25 from A.domain.com to B.domain.com and from B.domain.com to A.domain.com. I can *telnet* on port 25 from B.domain.com to A.domain.com. BUT when I telnet on port 25 from A.domain.com to B.domain.com. I get "telnet: connect to address x.x.x.x: No route to host". The resolved IP x.x.x.x is correct by the way. So I see no reason why. it should fail to telnet on port 25 to A.domain.com.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wired Network Card Not Working - No "eth0"?

May 27, 2010

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on an older PC and I'm having problems with the network card built into the motherboard. When I connect an ethernet cable into the ethernet port I get a solid amber light, and I can't connect to my router, (which is being directly connected). Nothing is shown in Network Connections, but on another PC with the same version of Ubuntu it shows "Auto eth0", and it works just fine connecting with the router. How do I fix this? I'm an Ubuntu noob so I'm not really sure what to do here.

The network card is an Intel 82547EI Gigabit LAN controller, and Intel's website offered a driver available for my kernel version of Linux. However I was typing everything it told me to do in terminal, (which half the time I have no clue what I'm typing actually means), but I ended up getting some errors towards the end of the install process. I'm not sure if I messed something up or the driver just isn't going to work.

I'm hoping there is an easier fix for this, I've been searching the net all night trying to find someone with a similar problem and I haven't found any. I think I have another ethernet card which I might pop in and see if that works....but I figure I'll most likely run into the same problem because I know for sure the motherboards network card works - has on Windows, I just can't get it working in Ubuntu.
