I have recently installed the intel-wireless-tools and now my laptop detects my wireless router and connects to it but when I go into a browser I can access the internet. If I connect to the wired network no problems(same router) no go on Wireless.
View 11 RepliesI've installed firmware-iwlwifi I've modprobe -r'd and modprobed the iwlagn module I CAN scan, using iwlist wlan0 scanning, and I can see my essid, hovering in the distance. it is definitely broadcasting.
I use wicd and wicd-curses. No wireless show up in wicd-curses. ifup wlan0 gives me no dhcp offers received and slumbers again. from iwconfig:

Just resently I managed to activate internal bluetooth adapter. I'm not expert in command line and everything I could was done in GNOME. Same like most other systems an icon appears in panel bar whenever I used to type <modprobe omnibook ectype=14>. It took me some time to set everything with the kind help from URL... So the thing is that after fingering with some newly installed packages concerning b-tooth utilities that icon is gone and b-tooth is not active.

It came pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Premium but now I have Fedora 11 (w/ Gnome) as the only OS. The router that I am using with an Ethernet cable connected to my laptop is a Netgear 54Mbps Wireless Router WGR614 v7 connected to a Motorola Surfboard Cable Modem. Both worked right out of the box and now I have wired Internet access. RCN is my ISP. I would like to avoid using the Ethernet cable connecting my laptop to the router.
This is what I have done so far:
1. Gone to System>Administration>Network
2. Clicked "New" then chose "Wireless connection" from the list
3. Chose Intel Corp. Wireless WiFi Link 5100 (wlan0) from list. The other option was "Other Wireless Card".
I don't know what to do after this. What should I choose in the windows entitled "Configure Wireless Connection" and "Configure Network Settings" ? I chose Ad-Hoc for mode and entered an SSID name even though I have no explanation for taking these actions. As for the other settings, I simply went with whatever was already selected. At the moment, I lose Internet access when I disconnect the Ethernet cable. I see other wireless networks when I click the network icon on the top right corner of the screen. I don't know how to make my router appear on that list if that's necessary.
In simple, I have tried everything I can find on this issue, but I am still unable to get it working on my HP DV4 laptop. My laptop has a Intel 5100 wireless card, and it always says that wireless is disabled. Ive tried booting with the wireless switch off, with it on, ive reinstalled the driver and did everything in a post I found here (cant find a link) that basicly had me reinstall the driver from intels site, then reload the network manager, to no prevail. Im running ubuntu 10.4.1 (just installed), and this is really a big issue 4 me.

I have Dell 1537 laptop having Intel 5100 wireless card. It is not supported by Fedora 9. I have tried downloading the driver iwlwifi-5000-ucode-8.24.2.12.tgz from URL...Downloads and copied it to folder /lib/firmware and rebooted the machine. But still it is not detected by the system. Is there any solution to this problem .

The router is a Dlink DIR-635, it has 'n' enabled and working (got an apple laptop connecting at 130Mbit/s, can't test the actual throughput though, since it's the only high-speed device).

I'm running 11.4, added the compat-wireless recently to be able to run the newes firmware (iwlwifi-5000-5.ucode , firmware version 8.83.5.1 build 33692), but still all I get is 54Mbit/s. I'd like to know if ANYONE ever got the 802.11n speed on linux, and in particular with these intel cards.
I have just switch to Ubuntu on my laptop from Windows 7 and I am experiencing alot of wireless dropping.
The signal itself is full and I am very close to the router.
What could be the issue and how do I go about rectifying it.

I moved to Berlin recently and I got wireless internet through an access point. I'm supposed to use the laptop's built-in wireless netcard to access the internet. This usually works in windows (connection falls out from time to time), but I have yet to make it work in linux. I'm using OpenSuse 11.3 64-bit and the Knetwork manager. Most of the settings in the network manager are correct, but it keeps wanting to use system certificates for the server. By that I mean it keeps checking 'Use CA System certificates'.
So I can't choose the CA-certificate supplied by my internet provider. I keep removing the check-mark and pointing it to the 'hotzoneCA.der' certificate. I also got a 'personal' certificate, in lack of a better word. Its called 'jacob_collstrup.p12'. The Knetwork manager seems to accept the 'jacob_collstrup.p12' certificate, but not the other one.
I just put the certificates in a folder like this /jacob/home/hotzone/zertifikate/ I can see the network fine using the Knetwork manager, and the signal strength seems ok. Not too good, but it shouldn't be a problem. I might have messed up the system, since I first tried this guide, prior to experimenting with Knetwork Manager:

I've got a Dell precision with Kubuntu 9.10. Wifi worked fine on that machine for months, but stopped working last week. I don't know what happened, but I recently did an "apt-get dist-upgrade". That might have something to do with it.
When I boot in Windows, wifi works fine.

The funny thing is that it works fine in a Fedora installation, which has an older kernel and older drivers, on the same laptop. The fact that the indicator light doesn't come in when the physical switch is turned on suggests it's something to do with that switch.
I'm using a Vaio TT, which seems to use an Intel 5100 WiFi chipset, and a Linksys WRT54G2 (firmwares 1.0.1 and 1.0.4), ubuntus 10.10 and 10.04.
Wifi works fine out of the box. However if the other vaio tt in our office (running windows 7) comes online, my laptop stops being able to make new connections. It WILL stay connected to chat servers, and downloads SOMETIMES continue to work. However all new HTTP requests / ssh connections / rdp connections / pings fail. The laptop still appears to be "connected" to the wifi network.
This may also happen after an undetermined amount of time without the extra vaio. It is not solved by reconnecting or rebooting. Once the extra vaio leaves the building, everything works fine again. This problem does not happen at all if I boot into windows.
i'd like to extend that ma intel wifi link 5100 is not detected no more after perform upgrade package( upgrade the kernel too ). when im using command 'lshw -C network' , there is appear to be detected, but not on command 'iwconfig' or even 'ifconfig' it just show nothin. also network-manager no longer show that ma wireless is work properly anymore.

I think maybe the driver is not loading, but I am a pretty much still a noob, so my opinion isn't worth much. If it is the driver not loading, I don't know what to do to fix it. I am unable to get my intel pro/wireless 3945abg connected to my router. The firmware has been installed and at first was even able to connect, but now the access point doesn't even show up in network manager. I am currently able to connect using a USB wireless adapter, but for certain reasons, would prefer to use the former. I've looked over this page with no results.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have my laptop dual booted between Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows 7. In Ubuntu I randomly lose connection to the wireless network. It always works fine when I first boot into Ubuntu but after a while my wireless connection will go down. The signal strength meter will go to zero bars and the black popup message will appear that my wireless connection has disconnected. At first, if I just wait a bit, the connection will come back. However, after about 4 or 5 times of doing this it will then ask me for my password, and inputting the password does not reconnect me to the AP. I am finally forced to reboot. Then it works OK for a while again and the cycle repeats.
It works fine in Windows7 all day, every day. I have the Release Candidate of Windows7 so it's going to expire soon. I would really prefer to make Ubuntu my everyday OS on this laptop rather than pay for a Windows7 license but I cannot tolerate a flaky wireless connection.
I had 8.1 on this laptop at one point and I never had any problems with the wireless then, that I can remember. I had no Ubuntu for a while but then I came back with the 9.1 and was loving it until the wireless problem reared it's ugly head.

I cant seem to understand what happens to my wifi networking, i just installed ubuntu 10.10 today (completely erasing windows) on my toshiba satellite m645. Seems like my wireless card (the specs say its intel 802.11a/g/n wireless LAN) will only randomly detect the available networks or will connect only for a few seconds just after i just turned it on, then it will disconnect.

View 8 Replies View RelatedCPU fan apparently is not working with Debian (or Kernel, I don't know who's responsible for ACPI devices management. ).After setting up lm-sensors to show core temperatures, and running a simple "while(true);" C program, I noticed the fan doesn't turn on until the temperature reaches 80 degrees Celsius, and when it does, it runs at what appears to be full speed (VERY noisy). Also, it stays turned on at that speed even after temperature gets below 35 degrees Celsius. The only way to turn it off is to put the computer to sleep and wake it up again, but if I do the same procedure, it happens again.
I think it is related to some compatibility problem with ACPI devices because when I turn on the computer, I can't get the Fn keys to work, but after I suspend and wake it up, I can control the brightness using the Fn key and use the Play, Pause, etc. buttons. I read this has something to do with ACPI issues, the same as the fan control issues, because "try to suspend and wake up the computer" is something people usually tell to others with this problem (I assume just to confirm the diagnostic).Everything works fine on the pre-installed Windows Vista that came with the computer. It's definitely a compatibility problem.
I've read a lot in forums, even here, but I couldn't get any solution for this. I installed toshset but asks me to enable a Kernel module which I have no idea of how to load. I have no idea of how to load a Kernel module in fact.Also, I didn't want to believe, but I read there's no solution for this (at least, not one which doesn't involve a lot of knowledge on the matter).I'd like to stay with Debian, so I'm doing my last try here before installing other Linux Distro. I have been able to connect to access points before but sometimes I have to reboot or reboot twice just to be able to see the wireless points and the enable wireless is always greyed out. And if I am connected to an AP or hardwire the connection drops frequently.
