Ubuntu Multimedia :: Installing Flashplugin-nonfree And Flashplugin-installer Due To Conflicting Packages

May 26, 2010

I read on a forum post that the problem with clicking certain types of flash content was resolved by downloading and install the latest package of flash from adobe's site.

I removed the flash install from the .deb package I downloaded from Adobe and wanted to start over. I am having problems installing flashplugin-nonfree and flashplugin-installer due to conflicting packages. How can I start over fresh as if flash was never installed and THEN install flashplugin-nonfree + it's dependencies without any problems?

Here's what happens when I try to remove and reinstall, among other things:

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Adobe-FlashPlugin Smoother Than FlashPlugin-NonFree In Jaunty?

Jan 23, 2010

Yesterday, I was seeking for some Flash Player tweaks for Jaunty. In Adobe's web site I found and installed "APT for Ubuntu 9.04+." That move installed adobe-flashplugin to the system. After I removed flashplugin-nonfree and flashplugin-installer, Interestingly flash videos begin to player smoother; especially in http://www.animefreak.tv/ . Is it just a coincidence or an advantage of "APT for Ubuntu 9.04+"; because it did not exist in Adobe's website one month ago, just ".deb for Ubuntu 8.04+" was available for download.

Debian :: Flashplugin-nonfree Terrible Performance / No Spike In CPU

Jun 3, 2011

II installed flashplayer by every different method I can so far, and all of them have the same problem. This problem presents itself, for example, while playing a video on ...... As the video loads, flashplayer is fine, but as soon as it starts playing, the browser tab begins to run at roughly 1 frame per 10 seconds. When I turn the browser priority to maximum in System Monitor, it improves slightly, going to about 1 frame per second. The strange part is, my CPU and memory usage barely spike at all, to less than 30%. This happens regardless of browser (have tried iceweisel and chrome). It happens with hardware acceleration on, and off. I have tried installing flashplayer from the tar.gz on the adobe website, from the repository (all three packages), and manually placing the plugin in the browser myself. The issue presents itself the same every time.

My system specs are: 1.83GHz duel core intel centrino processor, 3GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600. Nothing fancy, but flash player performs as flawlessly as flashplayer can under windows (and also performed well in my previous Ubuntu 10.04LL install).

I can't get flashplugin-nonfree to work; sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree outputs the following:

the cp's and ln's are from an install.sh from weidu-linux. apparently, i have compiled things in a terrible way. (i'm pretty sure i tried "make install.sh" and then "sudo checkinstall" and the package never went through, but now. now, i'm not so worried about the flash because any time i use apt-get this script of cp's and ln's runs (on the other hand, flash is the only package not working, so maybe this is just a cosmetic issue...). for example, ace of penguins outputs the same stuff (but at least it runs).

I don't want help with the flash issue--i just want my apt-get / dpkg to be clean again! i'll never try to run baldur's gate with weidu mod's again,

Ubuntu :: Apt-get (use Aptitude Purge To Remove All Associated Files Of A Package)?

May 2, 2010

Did a fresh install of 10.04 Desktop 86_64 this weekend. One of the first issues I noticed right away was that apt was not function properly. Say for example you install the packages tor and vidalia (assume I'm running everything from root). #apt-get install tor vidalia This command will check and install necessary dependencies, for example 'privoxy'. Now if you decide that you don't want to use privoxy and instead use polipo, you would probably feel inclined to remove privoxy. Well I found that apt-get autoremove, apt-get remove, apt-get purge WILL NOT remove all the files/directories associated with the package. You'll find that after running each of these commands, there will still be directories, scripts, etc. in /etc/init, /etc, and /etc/rc*.d. The only solution I've found to completely removing a package is aptitude purge [package].

Debian :: Remove The Relation Of A File From A .deb Package?

Feb 2, 2010

Hi,

I'm using my own Debian .deb-packages for managing software updates on a small numbers of computers. So this question is about creating my own .deb Packages.

I got the Package A with the version 1.0 and 2.0. From version 2.0 on it's not necessary to keep track of the file fileB.txt. But I want to keep fileB.txt on the target system anyway.

Code:

Package A Ver. 1.0:
- fileA.txt
- fileB.txt

Package A Ver. 2.0:
- fileA.txt
If I install the new .deb package A. DPKG will remove fileB.txt.

How can I prevent dpkg to remove fileB.txt? In fact, dpkg should simply forget that fileB.txt was ever part of Package A!

Of course I could manipulate the dpkg file list, somewhere in the dpkg cache (file system). But how can I achieve the same effect within a package -> without manual manipulation on the target system?

Is there any key word in the control file? Or is there a special file, which lists "dependencies to delete"?

Debian :: Firefox/iceweasel - Flashplugin.so And ELF's?

Mar 4, 2011

I've been using Iceweasel for 4-5 months now, since I installed Debian 6.0 testing. It worked fine and I had to use flashplugin-nonfree from the repositories in order to get flash working, nothing new here.In my last apt-get upgrade, something broke. Not sure if it is the flashplugin or Iceweasel.I tried changing flashplugins (trying the 32bit one, trying the new 64bit, trying another package I found) but every time I go on ..... and click on a video, Iceweasel crashes. The only output I got was "sesmentation fault".So I tried with firefox and Iceape and they worked fine. However the firefox downloaded was 32bit, so I downloaded the 3.6.12 source and compiled it (Forgot to mention i'm on amd64, but who isn't nowadays?).Flashplugin works fine with firefox 64bit, browser doesn't crash, but I keep getting:

Debian Configuration :: How To Remove Package That Ties With Core Ones

Aug 7, 2011

I have this package dependency question for a while. I have brand new Squeeze system. I selected desktop during installation. Gnome is default system but I turned off gdm3 and uses fluxbox as window manager. I understand if two packages are tied together funtionally so that removal of either package terminates one feature. Above cases, many small packages only depends on the core packages. The core packages work fine without games, other programs.

There are so many programs that I want to remove in the system. For examples, ekiga is a VoIP program that I never use it. When I tried to remove it using apt-get or aptitude, it suggests entire gnome packages will be removed also, which is illogical. The only solution I found is I need to manually remove the package files. I haven't tried it yet.
