Debian Configuration :: Bind - Zone Configuration Error?

Debian Configuration :: Radeon DRI Driver, Clicking "Apply" It Fails?

Mar 3, 2011

i couldn't get out after many hours of reading documents/posts/forums etc.

The issue:In Kde 4.4.5, using xorg and radeon opensource driver, i can't set OpenGL for desktop effects. Clicking "Apply" it fails. OpenGL seems corrupted someway. I have to stay on XRender. This is the glxinfo output:

glxinfo | grep OpenGL
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa Project
OpenGL renderer string: Software Rasterizer
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 7.7.1
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.20
OpenGL extensions:

The story:i was running previously kde with nvidia propertary driver and a nvidia board. Then i removed the board for a fault and put a sapphire radeon HD5450. Initially i set up propertary radeon fglrx. At the end, i decided to use the opensource drivers, removed in the best way all fglrx files and links. So i then followed the wiki for reinstall open source radeon drivers, did it many times, also reinstalling xorg with purge, same for libgl1-mesa-xxx etc, but i still cannot use the OpenGL hardware support (should be DRI, that is correctly installed but not loaded).

Seems to be really an opengl corruption, if i disable the check on apply, and select OpenGL rendering, i get a complete blank screen.

Some information of the system:
01:12 ] angelo@angel3 [~] cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor: 0
vendor_id : GenuineIntel

Software :: Zone Transfers For Load-balanced BIND Servers?

May 13, 2010

I am planning to implement hardware load-balanced DNS servers. There will be one master and three slaves in the server farm. I will have two virtual servers associated with the server farm that will be listed as external nameservers for our domain.

BIND uses the list of NS records to determine the servers that need zone transfers. The zone NS records will not be the addresses of any of the real servers. How do I tell the master to do zone transfers to the real slave servers?

Ubuntu :: Change And Hit "apply To Enclosed Files" Before Clicking The Button Labeled "close"

#3, The containing folder has all folders as belonging to root even though I told it to "apply to enclosed files".

#4, Obviously, I don't want to change permissions on every single file individually. I don't know how to change permissions to allow the folders and files to be able to be viewed by me (as a normal user) or by my SAMBA connected father.

Debian :: Error Message At Each Update?

Sep 6, 2011

My computer: 3 year old cheapish box, Gigabyte board with onboard video and sound. Cat5 cabled to Linksys wired router to a cable modem. Debian 6.0 Stable. Network installation.

This didn't happen from the initial installation but I now get an error message each time I get the updates.

I first see the red update notification icon top right of Gnome desktop. I click on it, enter root password at prompt. Click the install updates button on the update manager window. The software progress bars show me the download progress but then I get the following errors.

An error has occurred and installing has been aborted. Error Message: subprocess installed post installation script returned error exit status 1

Error message: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured.

I cancel the messages. The notification icon then turns to the reboot icon. If I start the update manager again from the System menu it shows me that my system is up to date, so I suspect the update has taken place. But why am I getting the error messages. This now happens every time I see the new updates icon. Apart from that everything works fine.

I include my source list in case this helps.

Debian Installation :: Testing - All Logins Fail / System Error Message From The Passwd Command?

Mar 18, 2010

I just installed Squeeze on an older PC. Installation seemed to go fine. But when it booted up on the installed system for the first time, I could not login - username/password failure. I tried every possible typing error and CAP LOCK error I could have made - still nothing.

I brought up a console window and tried logging in as root - same problem.

I booted into single user mode and entered passwd command to set new root password - I got a SYSTEM ERROR message from the passwd command.

I booted to a Live CD, went to /etc/shadow and deleted the encrypted password. Rebooted on the hard drive, went to console window and logged in as root, with no password required. So far so good. I entered passwd command to set new password and got the same SYSTEM ERROR message.

The machine seems fine when running on the Live CD, and the install seemed to go fine.
