CentOS 5 Server :: Openldap Acl Not Working As Expected?

Jun 22, 2009

CentOS 5.2. Openldap server-2.3.27-8.el5_2.4 I'm trying to get the server to do two things. One is allow authentication--that is, if a client is configured to use openldap for authentication, it should be able to access this server.

In other words, on machine_2, a client, doing getent passwd (as a quick test) will show the users in the openldap database. The more or less out of the box configuration works for this. However, as soon as I start trying to add ACLs, it stops working. For example, I want to restrict access to an address book which is also in the database. So I have

access to base.dn(changing base to subtree makes no difference) "ou=addressbook,dc=example, dc=com"
by users read by anonymous auth Now, even though this is just the address book, after that, an ldap client can no longer get the names of users in ou=People, and using the ldap server for authentication doesn't work.

I don't understand what I'm missing. ACLs are supposed to work first match wins. *IF* I add under that, access to * by * read, it will work, but the address book can then be accessed without a bind dn.

I am not sure what I'm overlooking. If I put in any sort of access control, the only way that clients can continue to use the server for authentication is adding that access to * (or to dc=example,dc=com"), by * read. I tried using access to ou=Group and ou=Peoplle by * read, thinking that would allow the clients to authenticate, but that doesn't work either, The idea is to allow any machine configured as a client to use it for authentication, but also to restrict viewing the address book only to those with a proper bind dn name.

OpenSUSE Install :: Error: Operand Expected /dve/disk/by-label//

Apr 28, 2011

I just installed OS 11.4 this morning. Was previously on CentOS. I chose to have it import the partition & raid setup during install. Now when it boots it hangs with

"Could not find /dev/disk/by-label //" "Want me to fall back to /dev/disk/by_id/ata-ST(lots of drive stuff) -part2 (Y/n)" If I just hit ENTER at that point the boot will go on and it runs fine, but it stalls every time with that same error on boot. I did quite a bit of searching with Google and here (the search here considers every word in the error message to be too short or too common).

Debian :: Error: Expected Constructor, Destructor, Or Type Conversion Before '.' Token

Jan 25, 2011

I don't know if this is the best place to ask this question. This question arose when I had a g++ compilation error: error: expected constructor, destructor, or type conversion before '.' token The above message can be correctly displayed in urxvt or xterm. But in mrxvt the '.' part can't be displayed correctly. Then I noticed that the quote signs are actually different from the usual ones and there seems no way to type ' ' from the keyboard. What are the differences and how to make mrxvt to display ' ' correctly. I found mrxvt very good and easy to configure.

Red Hat :: List Modified Configuration Files [ CentOS 5.4 ]?

Feb 20, 2010

I am searching for a program which may be used in order to display a list of modified (non-distribution-default) configuration files. For example, assume we have installed package "example-utility" which uses /etc/example-utility.conf as one of its configuration files. The package provides a default configuration file upon its installation. Assume we have modified /etc/example-utility.conf according to our needs. This file should be included in the listing produced by the program I am looking for.

If such a tool does not exist, I would like to create it. However, I am new to RPM-based systems, and, as such, I am having difficulties finding the necessary documentation. Should I be reading the yum source code? Is there some sort of document describing the package database on RH/CentOS/etc. systems and how 3rd party applications are supposed to work with this database?

Is there a list of RPMs with known vulnerabilities? I was hoping to run some scripts across the list of currently installed packages vs such a list of vulnerable, to get an idea of what systems need attention. And no, just updating everything is neither an option, nor possible. My servers don't have access (nor do I want them to) to the outside world. Further, being production systems, I can't cause a disruption outside of scheduled down time, and due to running commercial software I can't upgrade some packages due to vendor support issues.
