CentOS 5 Server :: Qmail Server Is Not Notifying Email Address Does Not Exist
Oct 27, 2010
One of our client having issue with the qmail. The issue is if any one send email to email@example.com (firstname.lastname@example.org the email address which is not exist) it should send failure notification i.e."email does not exist" to the sender. The qmail server is not notifying that email address does not exist.
I've come across a strange issue where any email address that I email with mail returns an error "Bad Address"
Fairly new Centos 5.4 Install, sendmail is the MTA. Linux 2.6.18-164.el5 #1 SMP Thu Sep 3 03:28:30 EDT 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux DNS is working fine so there isn't a problem. [root@hn1 /]# host -t mx iol.co.za iol.co.za mail is handled by 10 mg1.iol.co.za. iol.co.za mail is handled by 10 mg2.iol.co.za. iol.co.za mail is handled by 30 vulpix.iol.co.za.
Yet when I try to use mail it fails: [root@hn1 /]# which mail /bin/mail [root@hn1 /]# ls -lrth /bin/mail -rwxr-xr-x 1 root mail 83K Jan 7 2007 /bin/mail [root@hn1 /]# mail -s "test" email@example.com Bad address Nothing in the maillog.
i have a small issue, to make our network more secure, i now require outgoing email to require authentication. Now the problem..i have a automated mailer that does not have the option to authenticate. is there a way to allow a certain email address or the local network to send out without authentication? If i cannot do this for a single email user to allow them through with authentication, how would i remove the authentication paramaters in the postfix smtp..
Is there a way of allowing only certain domain to send e-mails to certain specific e-mail address. I am using Sendmail, and I have an alias which translate to certain members of staff within my organization. I don't expect e-mails from outside our domain to be sent to this alias e-mail address.
I have just configured CentOS server my new office. This is the first time I am using CentOS.
Whenever I am trying to change the webroot of the httpd server, it usually say "directory doesn't exist". whereas which can't be the case as it is home directory of the user.
To achieve this, what Do I need to do?
The second issue, I am facing that whenever I am adding new directories to public_html folder, it is not accessible. as the error page 404 is shown. I have changed the permissions to 0705 and ownership is also transferred to other user. What else is required to make new directories accessible by the web?
I am still pretty green when it comes to centos and linux in general. I have installed rpm and source packages before with little trouble by following the guides available on the support site and wiki for centos.I am running centos 5.4 on a virtual server.I followed the guide for installing vpopmail at URL...mailSince this is a VPS server I cannot install gnome and is why I opted for vpopmail + qmail.
The first issue I have is: I don't know how to tell qmail to start up automatically because after the install of qmail from source as the guide told me to, it did not place a startup files in the /etc/init.d, and I can't find any useful documentation on how to trouble shoot that.I try to use "chkconfig qmail on" and "chkconfig --level 345 qmail on" but both give me the error "error reading information on service qmail: No such file or directory"The version of qmail I am using is the latest 1.0.3, and the version of vpopmail is 5.5.
Vpopmail seems to be working just fine, as is the mysqlauth mod. I check the vpopmail database in mysql, and all the values I used for the domain and user show up there. The settings also show in the qmail configuration directory files for the domain. My first clue as to something being wrong was that when I send an email to the address I setup, I get nothing delivered on the server, but I also do not get any bounce backs or errors to tell me the details of what went wrong. At first I figured it was my firewall, so I disabled iptables. That did not fix it.I also tried disabling SElinux. That also made no difference.
I installed the Centos 5.5 and after the Xen. After I put a virtual machine named VM01.Initially it worked properly, I tried everything and it worked. When rebooted, I had problems with the network.I have two network cards eth0 and eth1, but eth1 does not have any ip and I use only eth0.The error that appears is:
vif0.0: received packet with own address the source address
Is there a way to control all email address in one server manage all email application software either win OS / MAC OS or Linux Distro. I have experience about email when the pc crashed i dont have any backup for their email data also email address.
i need to configure postfix on centos to relay email from the internet to the Exchange Server and i also need that emails sent from the exchange within the same domain be sent to postfix then resent to exchange because i have spamassassin and clamav installed on centos to filter all incoming and outgoing mails ...
I am trying to set up a mail server on centos5 using sendmail and dovecot, and eventually spamassassin and some antivirus filter as well. I'd also like to get the proper secure auth mechanism set up at some point too. But for starters, I've been having a lot of difficulty trying to even connect to the mail server from a client computer in the local network. I installed Eudora on the client and after some tweaking in dovecot I was able to connect to the mail server, but then when I try to send an email I get a "connection refused" error, with nothing being logged on the server that I can see.
The last time I set up a mail server was Fedora Core 2, so the configuration files have changed a bit to say the least, and I can't really refer back to those to set up this new server. Does anybody know of a good step-by-step doc on getting the mail server going? I've read the man pages and other various readme's, but these really only list out the available options with no really good explanation of what needs to be done to get the mail server going. If there isn't a full write-up on how to do this, I'll put something together when I'm finished so others can use it in the future.
I have a domain address and I keep my website in the server at my home. I use bind for DNS. I opened an email address for myself, but when I send an email to for example hotmail, gmail, it signs that as junk or spam. How can I make this address as trusted?
We use procmail to reformat and filter email messages sent from many lead capture websites where the clients enter their reply email address manually. When we receive the message at our application we send a welcome email, and receive back the Undeliverable Email message where the clients entries are invalid, but I would like to be able to kill messages with undeliverable email addresses on our mail server before they are delivered to our application.I have found discussions on filtering masqueraded addresses, but since the IP of the sending system is not related to the entered client's email address, this does not appear to help. I would think that it should be able to query the email server to identify if the address is valid.
I have setup mail server on Ubuntu 9.10 and it's is working fine.I am using Webmin to addministrate my mail server. My Ubuntu server name abcs.I send a test mail from Wedmin for user gom.Why it keep adding InfoNet. What I would like is setup as firstname.lastname@example.org.
system is RedHat v4. I removed root: admin-name@domain from /etc/aliases then ran /usr/bin/newaliases.
The admin does not get the emails but now the email generated by the cronjobs is being sent to my-name@domain outlook email from "email@example.com". No other changes were made. Where should I start looking for the definition of sent crontab email to my-name@domain?
I have successfully setup Apache,MySql,ftp, and a few other various packages. My question today is setting up an email server.I have past experience with sendmail, and procmail. However only on already installed, configured and working servers.I am trying to setup an email server from scratch.I have Centos 5.4 installed.
Are those two packages the only ones I need to get a working email server setup? Also I have been trying to configure a procmailrc file for my server under /etc/, but I can't seem to find consistent documentation on how to set up a procmailrc file.I believe my iptables is set to block port 110 and 25 from outside connections. how to open those ports too.
is qmail server running in the secondary office and it was working fine. yesterday qmail suffered some problem.i came to know about the problem today.now after troubleshooting and looking into the server, the qmailclt stat commands shows that all services are working and there is nothing going crazy in the server. The maillog is showing errors which i am pasting here for the convienance.
we have qmail server installed on rhl 9. it was working perfectly fine for last 1 year. suddenly it stopped accepting emails from internet. when i telnet on port 25 it takes about 90 secs to show the SMTP ready state.I have tried many things
1. stopped Reverse DNS Lookup by adding -H to qmail-smtpd/run file 2. stopped spamassing and AV 3. reverified DNS server settings in resolv.conf 4. dig is resolving dns query properly.
i also observed that when i do telnet to telnet localhost 25 response is very quick
but when i do telnet local_server_IP_address 25 it takes aprx 90 secs to show me SMTP ready messege.
can someone shed some light on this as what should i do next to rectify this problem..
