Software :: Service Bla Start Not Working On CentOS?

Aug 3, 2010

I've just compiled and installed some software (coova-chilli). I usually control this as a service so immediately after install I tried service chilli start I got the following error:

Starting chilli: which: no start-stop-daemon in (/sbin:/usr/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin)

If i run which chilli I get: /sbin/chilli I've tried 'updatedb' and a reboot but no luck. I remember a few months ago I was playing with chilli before and I this was happening. I had to run a simple command to update something or other and it fixed the issue. Of course, I can't remember what that command was.

General :: Named Service Not Being Functional

Oct 11, 2010

One of the dedicated servers that I have does not seem to have the service 'named' functional:
root@server2 [~]# service named start
Locating /var/named/chroot//etc/named.conf failed: [FAILED]

Note that the double slashes (//) ARE part of the output as well as the long gap before [FAILED] appears. This 'named' service not being functional is not a problem which is preventing the server / the application on it from working. There are entries in /etc/resolv.conf though.

Fedora Networking :: Can't Stop Named Service

Nov 30, 2009

I am new in configuring named.I want to set my firewall (Fedora 11) as a name server. The local domain is a Windows domain. I'd like internal users translate domain name into IP on this server when they go to the internet. After reading some posts on the web, I set up named as below. It seems the named does the job but with some problems.

1) When I start the server, I couldn't find the named process even if the file "named" is in /etc/init.d. I can browse Internet on the server with domain name (DNS works locally). But internal users couldn't get the domain name translated. If I shutdown the server at this stage, it will shutdown within 1 minute.

2) If I run "service named start" after the server boot up, I see process "named" and named work okay. Both internal user and local host can browse Internet with domain name. However, any command starting with "service named" has no response after this, such as "service named status" or "service named stop". I can see it shows "stopping named" and this last forever. I have to kill the process then restart named server so that named may run again.

3) If I shutdown the server now, it will take 4-5 minute instead of 1 minute in 1). The shutdown stuck at "shutdown named" for 4 minutes. Even if I kill process named before the shutdown, it will take 4-5 minutes.

It took me a week on this issue. I appreciate if you could take a look my configure files and guide me through this.

Fedora Servers :: Named Service Not Shutting Down

Mar 31, 2011

I am running named as a caching name server (package bind-9.7.3-1.fc14.x86_64 with config files exactly as supplied), and sometimes it does not shut down cleanly when I shut down the machine. The script /etc/ init.d/named tries to issue a "stop" command with rndc and that seems to fail most of the time; then it next uses the function killproc (defined in /etc/init.d/functions) which fails sometimes.I've hacked the named service script for now so that error messages are not hidden, but there is nothing reported.

CentOS 5 Server :: Rotating Named Logs Via Syslog.conf?

Mar 1, 2010

OS CentOS 5.4 I have a DNS server that is logging all named and dns requests to the chrooted named directory. By default named logs to /var/log/messages but I want to isolate all the dns queries and requests to separate files. I know I can add entries to /etc/syslog.conf to "roll" the logs and logrotate should pick them up but fuzzy as to the syntax. I don't know what "tag" to use in the first fieild. for example

# Log anything (except mail) of level info or higher.
# Don't log private authentication messages!
*.info;mail.none;authpriv.none;cron.none/var/log/messages

Here is the logging section of my named.conf

# pwd

Server :: Configure Fakemail To Start Up As Xinetd Service?

Aug 3, 2011

I found a way to capture emails sent from my Drupal installation, and Fakemail seems simple enough.

I can follow the tutorial. Since the application Fakemail needs to be running to capture the outgoing emails, it seems like a good candidate for xinetd, yes?

I've found a simple config tutorial describing starting the service and what the parameters are for the service-specific configuration files. This got me this far,

Code:
# default: on
# description: This is a script to start the Sandbox app "fakemail"
service fakemail
{

[Code]....

But the service is not starting up.

Or, recommend another application which uses a similar configuration like Sendmail so I can copy this

The Fakemail application/service is started from command line like so,
# fakemail.py --host=localhost --port=10025 --path=[path_to_email_textfile]
