Server :: Using BIND To Resolve Internal Non-FQDN Names

Sep 3, 2009

I have an RHEL5 server running BIND. I'd like to be able to resolve internal, non-FQDN names such as "wiki" for the company internal wiki. in my named.conf file...Named-checkzone returns no errors, and nslookup works when specifying the server explicitly, but no browser resolves the name when entered in the address line. I know this by no means a standard use of BIND, but I'm sure someone out there's pulled this off. I did see when googling someone suggest "load the root zone (.) as master, and add your "hosts" as TLDs, using CNAMEs", but tried that and probably did it wrong since it didn't work.

Server :: BIND Server No Longer Working

Jun 8, 2011

I am still quite new to all this but I guess we were all beginners once, this forum seems very helpful. Here is my situation, I will give as much detail as I can.I have a dedicated server which is running CentOS release 5.5.Initially I had Plesk installed, but when I upgraded PHP I damaged the Plesk configuration, and so I installed Webmin instead.

All seems to be fine with this, apart from the DNS configuration / BIND server.I know this because I have one site which uses an external DNS server and this works fine (i.e I can access it from a browser). All the others don't resolve - i.e the ones I set up in Plesk.I've done a bit of investigating to see what is going on, but I'm stabbing in the dark a little.

For example when i use nslookup or dig command to query Yahoo.com the response from server maybe deliver about 5 Sec or become timed out , but sometimes response time less than 1 sec!

I don't know why, perhaps kernel works week so i decided to do the following :

But the problem didn't solved

I previously had Freebsd with same version of bind and same configuration and everything worked fine.

CentOS 5 :: Openldap Client Won't Bind To Server

Jul 2, 2011

I can't get the client server to authenticate to the openldap server. I can authenticate on the server itself though. I can su to, login and shh into the openldap server and become a ldap user. I just can't become an ldap user on the client.I didn't setup TLS/SSL. I can do that after I have it working. I'm using hashed passwords though. I don't have replication setup. I'm am tying to setup the most basic openldap environment then build from there. I have read the openldap section in the admin guide.

My setup at home.

Openldap server light.deathnote.net -- 10.0.1.21
client server vm-centos01.deathnote.net 10.0.1.7 -- VM on virtualbox
Virtualbox host L (OS MAC) 10.0.1.2
router (apple airport extreme) / default gatway 10.0.1.1

All computer can reach the internet and ping each other. When I installed centos I disabled SELinux.I used these guids to setup my openldap.

Below I have included some output from the files I'm using with openldap.

CentOS 5 Server :: SASL Bind Failures - Invalid Credentials

Dec 14, 2009

I am setting up a cluster of servers which use Centos Directory Server for control of logins, etc and kerberos for authentication. The basic setup is working fine, I have been able to manually create accounts using the directory console and these accounts seem to work. Now what I want to do is automate the process of creating new accounts. I am writing a perl script which can be run by one of the server administrators, they supply a small number of arguments and it should create a new user in the directory server, and also create a principal in the kerberos.

I want them to be able to do this using their logged-in kerberos credentials, i.e., without having to enter and re-enter their passwords. My first attempt was to use perl modules Net::LDAP and Authen::SASL. I could not get this working so fell back to using ldap command line tools, but even these I cannot seem to get working! When using mozldap tools, as specified in the admin manual, I get the following:

$ /usr/lib64/mozldap/ldapmodify -h ldaphost.mycompany.com -D uid=eharmic,ou=mydept,dc=mycompany -o mech=GSSAPI -o authid=eharmic < ../ldapmod.txt
Bind Error: Invalid credentials
Bind Error: additional info: SASL(-14): authorization failure:

Using openldap tools I strike exactly the same problem:
$ ldapmodify -Y GSSAPI -H LDAP://ldaphost.mycompany.com -D uid=eharmic,ou=mydept,dc=mycompany -U eharmic < ../ldapmod.txt
SASL/GSSAPI authentication started
ldap_sasl_interactive_bind_s: Invalid credentials (49)
additional info: SASL(-14): authorization failure:

I believe I have set up the mapping correctly:
dn: cn=MyMapping,cn=mapping,cn=sasl,cn=config
objectClass: top
objectClass: nsSaslMapping
cn: MyMapping
nsSaslMapRegexString: ^(.+)@MYCOMPANY.COM
nsSaslMapBaseDNTemplate: ou=mydept,dc=mycompany
nsSaslMapFilterTemplate: (uid=1)

It must be getting reasonably far because after doing the above I can see the LDAP service ticket in my "klist" output.

CentOS 5 :: Bwbar & Libpng - Not Working On Centos 5 Server?

Mar 27, 2009

first of all, ill provide you with the package name i got [URL]...i went to /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES/bwbar-1.2.2 did ./configure ; make

then i get this problem : [root@server bwbar-1.2.2]# ./bwbar ./bwbar: /usr/local/lib/libpng12.so.0: no version information available (required by ./bwbar) i have installed libpng & libpng-devel

[Code]...

after looking around a bit i thought it would be better to get the sources from kernel.org directly and try to compile that one, but then i found it to have the exact same error. would be very nice if someone could direct me to a solution for this. i have the bwbar already installed on another server which runs CENTOS 4 , i installed it there AGES ago , so i dont really remember what was my method back then.

the CENTOS 5 server dose not like me installing bwbar on it for some reason. maybe its bwbar's fault?, im no coder so i hope anyone that got a clue could check this out for me.

CentOS 5 Server :: Centos 5.4 And Xen 3.4.2 Full Virtualization Not Working

Mar 31, 2010

I installed the latest version of Centos 5.4.It came with Xen version 3.0.2 I think.I am running it on a Dell R510. It supports hardware virtualization.I was able to virtualize Windows XP and Windows 2003 server on it by selecting the install from DVD option.I was having problems trying to get a PCI DekTek card seen by the virtualized Windows domains so I tried to upgrade XEN to 3.4.2.I used the repos available from Gitmo and it went easy.

The only problem is now that when I try to create a "New virtual host" it only allows me to use HTTP, FTP option and not the iso or DVD option. They are greyed out. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and might know a work around for the Xen 3.4.2 problem. Perhaps a better location for the kernel or something.

CentOS 5 Server :: Centos-ds Getting Memberof Working

Jun 17, 2011

I've got Cent 5.6 using centos-ds.x86_64 8.1.0-1.el5.centos.2 installed via yum.

I turned on the memberof plugin, here's the section from dse.ldif:

I'm currently messing with the value on memberofgroupattr. The only thing that seems to do anything is with it set the way above, in the error log I get:

So if I'm understanding, it's trying to mod the user entry and the attribute isn't allowed.

Setting the memberofgroupattr to anything else gets me nothing noticeable. ldapsearch isn't showing memberof:

I've run the fixup-memberof.pl in /usr/lib64/dirsrv/slapd-hostname and I get:

I'm using ldapadmin from a Windows box to assign/delete people from groups. What I'm a little confused on is the difference between a group and a groupofuniquenames. I also see a difference when using the web gui (directory server gateway) in users. The gateway creates and entry while in ldapadmin I'm creating users. Not sure how that factors but the memberofgroupattr relies on what object class it is and I'm obviously trying the wrong things or something is busted elsewhere.

The error log isn't showing any other errors.

I can restart dirsrv just fine, nothing funny in the log when I do that:
