CentOS 5 Networking :: Find A Driver For Wireless Card (Atheros AR928X)?

Jan 5, 2010

I'm trying to find a driver for my wireless card (Atheros AR928X) and I think it's ath9k what I need. As far as I know there isn't a linux driver for it, so I installed ndiswrapper to use a windows driver instead. The problem is that when I type modprobe ndiswrapper I get "bash: modprobe: command not found" (even as root). I know I'm missing something about modprobe, but I can't find any help on google. Anyway, I installed ndisgtk next, because I thought it would be easier, but when I go to System> Administration> Windows Wireless Drivers I get a message "Unknown error".Do you have any ideas on how I'll make ndiswrapper work?

Ubuntu Networking :: No Driver Claimed In Ndiswrapper - Atheros AR5001X+ Wireless Network Adapter?

Feb 26, 2010

I recently switched from Windows XP to a clean install Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10 but it seems to be quite a problem to get the wifi up and running. In Windows the nearby network all appeared in network connections but the same section in Ubuntu is empty. So I decided to go with the ndiswrapper guide to solve the problem with an unclaimed driver. After an entire day messing with my computer I'm still not close... Below follows excerpts taken from the Ndiswrapper guide with posted results from my computer. "ndiswrapper won't work until it thinks that your Windows drivers have been properly installed and that they are the appropriate ones for your wireless card. You can run the command: ndiswrapper -l"

result:

WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist, it will be ignored in a future release.
WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper, it will be ignored in a future release.
net5211 : driver installed
device (168C:0013) present (alternate driver: ath5k)

So I've posted the result the name of my wireless card below: lspci -nn

Result:

00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: VIA Technologies, Inc. CN333/CN400/PM880 Host Bridge [1106:0259]
00:00.1 Host bridge [0600]: VIA Technologies, Inc. CN333/CN400/PM880 Host Bridge [1106:1259]

[code]...

It seems like the network is disabled or unclaimed or both. What to do? I'm stuck after spending an entire day trying to install the wifi. I had no problems in Windows XP but it seems to be quite impossible in Ubuntu.

Networking :: Unable To Find Atheros AR8132 PCI-E Ethernet Controller Driver For CentOS / Fix It?

Jun 26, 2011

I am unable to find Atheros AR8132 PCI-E Ethernet Controller driver for CentOS which is installed on my netbook.

I contacted DELL to provide me the driver and they said that they do not support Linux on netbook and I have to arrange it myself.

I told them that I don't need help in installing I just need the driver file to which they said that they don't have driver for Linux.

NIC is getting detected and works fine on the same netbook (Am dual booting Windows7/CentOS) with Windows7

When I type: ls -l /dev/ it does not show up eth0. Same result with ifconfig. When I type lspci | grep net it does show up something like Atheros Communications AR8132 L1 PCI Gigabit .

I have just installed these with yum - but no new hardware appears in the network gui dialogue. Am I missing some step here - or is there another driver I should be looking for.

CentOS 5 :: Atheros AR5007 Set Failed On Wireless Device

Feb 20, 2011

My HP laptop has a wireless network device, Atheros AR5007 802.11 b/g Wifi adaptor. I was previously running Vista on this machine, and today loaded CentOS 5.5. In system-config-network, this device shows up properly in Hardware and in Devices. Hardware device shows the right mac address. In General, I set Activate device when computer starts, Automatically obtain IP address setting with dhcp, and Automatically obtain DNS information from provider. I've left the DNS and Hosts page blank. When I try to Activate the device, I get

"Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06):
SET failed on device wlan0; Invalid argument
Determining IP information for wlan... failed."

I have tried nfs restart, to no avail. (When I do this restart, I get the usual OK on seven of the messages but Shutting Down NFS services " shows FAILED.) I know the wireless router is working because I am connecting to it from another machine.

Networking :: Ethernet Intel Gigabit Controller Is Broken Or That Atheros Driver Is Missing?

Apr 21, 2011

I have an ASUS P5Q PRO motherboard with an integrated Atheros AR8121/AR8113 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Adapter.I installed Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid" 64bit Kernel version 2.6.32.21 I have read that the driver isn't in the kernel, but there's a strange thing :

First if I try to run lspci from command line it doesn't reports Atheros Ethernet Controller.

Second If I try to run lshw -C network from command line it doesn't reports Atheros Ethernet Controller.

Third if I run ifconfig it only returns my loopback address.

Can I suppose that my Ethernet Intel Gigabit Controller is broken or that Atheros driver is missing?

Ubuntu Networking :: Get Your Atheros 802.11n Wireless Working In 9.1?

Jan 11, 2010

I spent days trying to figure out how to get my atheros AR928x 802.11n wireless card to work in Ubuntu. The card worked perfect in Windows 7 but the connection kept dropping in Ubuntu. It would find my router and connect with 60% signal for about 5 seconds, then fall down to about 25% signal and then cut out altogether. After searching for days to find a solution, I finally figured it out and figured Id post it here to let everyone else in the same boat have a working wireless too!

I found this solution from:[URL].. This solution is for JAUNTY (Ubuntu 9.04), so if you are running Jaunty, you can just follow that post. If you are using Karmic (Ubuntu 9.1), you can follow this tutorial I'm posting. It's pretty simple: First, make sure you got all your files up to date. Type in a terminal:

sudo apt-get update Let that run, and once its done, type into terminal:
sudo apt-get upgrade
Once that finished, restart your computer. Again open up terminal and type:
sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-karmic

If you are using Jaunty, instead of karmic type in jaunty, if you use another version of ubuntu, you can find a list of versions and their names here:[URL].. Restart your computer one more time, and you should be good to go! This has been tested and confirmed to work on: -Ubuntu 9.1(karmic) with an Atheros 928x 802.11n wireless card, using the Ubuntu installed network software, in a Gateway NV53 laptop connected to a belkin 802.11n wireless router.-HP base station / 802.11g airport express

This has been tested and does not work/has issues with:

-airport extreme I hope this works for you too, and if it does, please let me know with your hardware and Ubuntu version so I can post here what other setups have been confirmed to let this work.

Fedora Networking :: Slow Wireless With Atheros AR9285?

I'm facing problems with Fedora13 and the AR9285 wifi card... the connection is just too slow, and the wired connection works fine. I just figured out that a lot of VAIO users (so am I) were in the same situation, and solved their problem by downloading ath9k drivers from linuxwireless.org. Fine, I did it! That's what I found :

Quote:

Building and installing
cd /path/to/compat-wireless-2.6.32-rc5
./scripts/driver-select <driver-name>
make
sudo make install

...but make is looking for source files in /usr/src/kernels/2.6.34-7-61.fc13.x86_64/build/ , which doesn't exist! The /usr/src/kernels/ folder is just empty. I also found something about the fact that Fedora13 didn't came with kernel's source files... So how can I install that driver? (I didn't find the package via yum...)

Ubuntu Networking :: No Internet With Atheros AR9285 (wireless)?

Nov 5, 2010

I've a big trouble that curses me for months. I've an Asus K52Jc laptop with wireless card Atheros AR9285, Ubuntu 10.10 and this network set-up: a WDSL (so an antenna on my house) wired to a switch; the switch shares connection through 2 ethernets cables: one to my uncle house, one to my router Netgear DG834v5.If I connect my laptop via ethernet, internet works good, if I connect to my router, wireless works (I can ping my router), but no internet. I've been helped a lot in official ubuntu chat: after some tries we understood that the problem aren't drivers, isn't Netgear, but probably it's something messed up in routes or arp cache.Anyway note that I have also some difficulties to ping my router, on 3 tries he often loses 1 or 2 packets.

CentOS 5 Networking :: Atheros AR8131M - Get It Working?

Aug 23, 2010

I recently purchased an MSI 740GM-P25 with an Atheros AR8131M gigabit ethernet adapter onboard. I have since discovered that it's not the easiest device to get working in CentOS (or any other distro I've tried, frankly). Anybody use this card and have instructions on how to get it working? I've got a lot of experience with Linux, but I've never been quite as good with hardware stuff as I probably should be. I've included a list of things I've already attempted below (limited as the list may be).

1) Tried both CentOS 5.5 x86_64 and Fedora 13 x86_64

2) Tried to download and compile the source code for three different Atheros drivers from their website (the Linux drivers listed here) in Fedora 13. All stated that I was using a kernel version that was unsupported (>2.4.0) when attempting to compile.

EDIT: Also, I contacted MSI directly for assistance.I got the simple yet incredibly unhelpful "we can't help you unless you use Windows" response. So there is no official support (and therefore no driver) provided by the manufacturer.
