CentOS 5 Networking :: VMware ESXi - E1000 Network Adapter Is Not Active And Not Pick Up An IP Address?

Feb 28, 2011

Installed CentOS 5.5 on VMware ESXi server running vsphere 4.1. Installed fine and picked the E1000 network adapter. But can't get the adapter to become active and pick up an IP address. Has anyone done this before? I can't get it to work. When i was testing CentOS out i used VirtualBox and worked fine using bridged networking but just can't seem to get this network card working.I've put some pictures of the config i've got.http:[url]....

CentOS 5 :: Can't Install On Vmware Esxi 4.0 Server?

Nov 24, 2009

I can't install centos 5 on vmware esxi 4 server.I use the netinstall cdrom and I get the splash screen with the kernel menu.After this, I can choose a language but then I get this error: "The CentOS CD was not found in any of your CDROM drives. Please insert the CentOS CD and press OK to retry."

I have tried it with the image on the datastore, a unc-path and as physical cdrom.I have tested all modes in the vmware cdrom settings (passthrogh IDE or Emulate IDE) - nothing helps.

Console 3 shows me:
loaded mptbase from /modules/modules.cgz

CentOS 5 :: Cluster Suite And Fence For VMWare ESXi 4.0

Oct 22, 2009

This is my first post, and i have a question with the fence software for VMWare ESXi. The fence_vmware agent only works with ESX, and redhat (in you GIT repository) has submited a new agent called fence_vmware_ng that claims to work with ESXi. But the problem is that they do not specify the version that works with that. Anybody has test the fence_vmware_ng agent for VMWare ESXi 4.0 ?, i follow the instructions here: [URL]...and i can install the software, the API from VMWARE site, etc, but in the moment when i run the agent nothing happen, The agent connects to server, i see in logs, but the off-reboot-on operations not works. Only works status operations, that return the state of a virtual machine. I have CentOS 5.3 (fully today updated) with RHCS.

Ubuntu :: Exit GDM To CLI Under VMWare ESXi Console?

Apr 26, 2011

run VMWare ESXi and have installed Ubuntu 10.10 in a virtual machine.People say you press CRTL+ALT+F1 to exit back to command line from the gnome login screen but this never works for me.If I do something like "sudo service gdm stop" it just delivers me to the desktop background almost like the machine has hung, no menus toolbars, mouse or anything.Basically what I want to be able to do is start up the machine with command line, and go into gnome on occasion and exit back out to command line to save resources, this is because the machine will mainly serve as a web server. I followed the guide here [URL] which tells how to make ubuntu always start at CLI, which works nicely, but I need a way to be able to get back to CLI from inside gnome.

Ubuntu :: P2v Sever To VMware ESXi - Server Just Freeze Every Morning?

My boss asked me to convert the company's web server (running on ubuntu 10.04 server LTS and using CMSME for the website),and the company's router directs the domain to that machine.The webserver is getting old (P3) and the server just freeze every morning and require a manual reboot most mornings.

Networking :: IP Address Active But Not Seen?

Sep 20, 2010

I have a 2 node Oracle cluster running on RHEL 5.4. One server went down the other day, and then restarted. Virtual IP address switched to the other node as it should, but did not switch back where the failed node came up - problem is the ip address is still on node 2, but I cannot see it or down the interface as it does not show up with ifconfig -a. I would expect to see it on eth0:2 but only eth0:1 is showing up with the correct vip for the node. ifconfig -a on node 1 shows n vip configured. I can telnet to this ip address and login, so know it is still on node 2, so why can't ifconfig -a show it, which interface is it on, and how do I remove it so I can get it back on node 1

I have tried using two linksys routers but was unable to get the private network to access the internet. i was thinking i could use iptables with a couple of nics but I am not sure it would work. I know this could be a lot of work for someone that has never used iptables before but will give me a reason to learn it.i am sure setting up a public and private network has been done before i just don't to buy a bunch of hardware. I have a extra workstation and a bunch of nics so i would like to go that route. I am open to suggestions.

Ubuntu Networking :: Static IP Address And The Install Configures For A DHCP Configured Address - Network Not Starting

Dec 16, 2010

Version 10.04 LTS. Installed desktop version and network worked but I needed a static IP address and the install configures for a DHCP configured address. I tried changing to static address using the System->Preferences->Network Connections application but was unable to get the system to come up with the network up.

So I manually modified the /etc/network/interfaces and the /etc/resolv.conf files. I restart the system but when I do an ifconfig, I don't see a configured IP address on eth0 (only the loopback address). If I run /sbin/ifup eth0 everything then works fine and ifconfig shows the correct address bound to eth0.

My files are as follows:

Ubuntu Networking :: Setting Up Linksys N-Router E1000?

Aug 21, 2010

Okay, a few days ago I got a small job setting up a router for a neighbour of mine. He wanted me to set up a wireless network for him. The router he bought is a Linksys Wireless N-Router E1000. I set it up the passwords and everything. Only to find out that I couldn't connect at all to it. The main computer with a direct ethernet connection to the router was the only one that had internet. Everytime I attempt to connect wirelessly with any device, it will take extremely long time to connect, to the point where I will just quit connecting.(Example: 15 minutes of waiting, when the laptop is right next to the router)

Any ideas about what I am doing wrong here? As far as I can think of it might just be a faulty router, because the router will not implement any changes(like setting a password) I set on it. Only wired connections seem to work. the router is called a linksys wirless N-router E1000.

Ubuntu Networking :: Installation Of Cisco Linksys E1000 In 10.04?

I can't install/configure this router. I have my PC connected to it via ethernet cable, and Ubuntu sees the connection, but I can't connect to the internet and I can't access 192.168.1.1. I've searched the forum, and I know there are a lot of threads on this, but neither were helpful and since the CD has only win drivers, I couldn't install anything.

I can access the internet through a phone using WiFi though, so theoretically everything is working, I just can't use it with the PC.

CentOS 5 :: Create A Fake Eth2 Network Adapter?

Jul 5, 2009

I am running 2.2.4 and CentOS 5.3 (RHEL 5.3 clone). I have two Ethernet cards: eth0 and eth1. Eth1 is connected to the Internet; eth0 is connected to all my virtual machines; iptables connects eth1 to eth0.

A new machine I am adding needs to be off eth0 and eth1 (security reasons). Question: is there a way to make up a third fake Ethernet card that I do not physically have (eth2) and assign it to my new VM? How do I do this? Can I get away with some thing like this?

$ pwd
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts
$ cat ifcfg-eth0
DEVICE=eth2
BOOTPROTO=none
BROADCAST=192.168.255.255

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Cannot Connect To Network Using TrendNet PCI Adapter

Apr 26, 2010

I felt the urge to build my own "Incredible PBX" system, and in the process downloaded pbxinaflash-i386-5.4.iso which is based on CentOS 5.4. The PC that I'm using is an old desktop, and the onboard ethernet adapter is not working, so I installed Trendnet PCI Adapter (te100-pciwn h/w : 2.2 R), which used to work greatly under Windows XP. Since my on-board ethernet adapater doesn't work, I disabled "eth0" device, and I modified eth1 device to load during boot. But, for whatever reasons, eth1 fails to get the IP address. I thought the driver that is part of CentOS 5.4 may not be working, so I thought of building the driver from the files provided in the CD (that came with TrendNet adapter box).. and unfortunately my attempts to build the driver have also failed.

Following files are attached in the zip file
- basedata.R3721 (info collected by ./getinfo.sh all )
- Directory 2.2.X has "te100.c, makefile, kern_compat.h copying.txt" (These files came with the Trendnet CD)
- errors (makefile errors when tried to build te100 driver)
From what I understand, TrendNet TE100-PCIWN is based on "Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139" chipset. How to get my ethernet adapater (eth1) connected to internet.

OpenSUSE Network :: Esxi Client Cannot Connect To Server

Jan 28, 2010

So a while back I was able to mount a directory from my OpenSuse server as a NFS on an Esxi server. After restarting the Esxi server, the NFS became inactive and I was unable to remount it. The error given was that the Esxi client was unable to connect to the Suse server. I was looking into the showmount -a command on the Suse server and it showed the mount point on the Esxi server. Could this be causing the Suse server to reject new attempts to mount the directory? What else can I try to fix this problem? Also I should note that both servers can ping each other.

CentOS 5 Networking :: CentOS In Vmware Always Losing Internet?

Apr 21, 2010

I installed CentOS on Vmware server 2.0.2

I took a snapshot of my machine with internet working

If I reboot my machine I lose internet. This makes no sense to me.

I ifconfig eth0 down then ifconfig eth0 up and still no internet

Weird thing

I check ifconfig and my bcast ID is 192.168.2.255 when it is supposed to be 192.168.45.255

(When the internet is working if I check ifconfig the bcast ID is 192.168.2.255)

IF I change my bcast my internet stops working

If I reboot my machine my internet stops working

I checked /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 and I see that in my snapshot (where the internet is actually working) the bcast is at 192.168.2.255

Without rebooting if I edit that script and I put it to .45.255 my internet stops working

If I reboot my machine at any time my internet stops working

I have also just realized that I cannot ping my gateway..
