In the left pane of Nautilus File Browser, I can only display directory and file names. I don't have the button at the top of the pane which allows me to select an alternate view such as Tree view.

Only a list of all files in the current directory is visible.
How can I enable/show ?
So I've been trying to get my windows C: and D: partitions (mounted to /windows/C and /windows/D respectively) to show along side "Filesystem" and "Home Folder" in tree view on the left panel in Nautilus.
I know I can drag and drop any folder under the Places view mode, but I never use Places and prefer Tree view mode.
In gnome 2 we had the option in gconf-editor to use a compact layout when displaying icons in nautilus, it was essential to browse pictures, otherwise the thumbnails are spaced way too wide for nothing and you can't get enough of them in a screen.the option is not there in dconf, can we set it somewhere else?

I'm using rhel6. Using File Browser Nautilus 2.28.4 I could easily locate any file I'm interested in by it name. I'd like to use this File Browser to locate the file name based on it content e.g. based on some word in the text file. It doesn't work for me that way ... My question: does Nautilus support the search of file based on it content or only based on the name of the file itself?

Being new to the linux OS, I was quite familar with Microsoft Windows file explorer and its adaption with file uploading. However, it would seem that GNOME follows a different method and uses a separate file browser to a file uploader Here is my file browser and the various options available (icon size, icon view, bigger thumbnails):
And here is what I get when I upload files to a website: My question is, is there a workaround or package available to allow changeable icon sizes/thumbnails in the file uploader? The picture preview is good, but really isn't enough for what I require
Is there an alternative to Nautilus file browser? I mean a file browser which offers out of-the-box (!) more features and where I don't have to install such add-ons like nautilus-actions separately and defined some commands which should obviously be built-in.

Initially while accessing the windows share through nautilus, I clicked on remember password. Now I need to access the same windows share with another username having different access previliges on the share. But when I click on the shared folder it takes the password that I have previously saved. Its not prompting for new username and password.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI don't know if this is a known issue, but when I want to copy/move a file to a folder containing lots of sub-folder displayed as list, I can't do a simple drag&drop, because there is no empty space to move this file. It will always go into one of the sub-folders. So obviously I have to go up one folder or to change view from list to Icon or Compact. Is it a known issue? Is there a solution? (Using GNOME nautilus 2.30.1)

I'd like to be able to accomplish the same in gnome with the nautilus file browser but can't figure out how to do same. So far I have to open a terminal and then cd to the desired folder. Or do I have to use some other file browser and which one?

Rebooting, logging out and in as someone else, then logging back in again as myself doesn't stop it. And, I'm afraid to uninstall Nautilus. I've tried Re-installing it to no avail.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Fedora Core 13 x86-64 from the installation DVD and picked the "Software Development" installation. I notice that the Applications->System Tools menu doesn't have "File Browser" on it.
Nautilus is installed, so I can create a launcher for it. I'm merely curious whether this is a change or bug in FC 13? Or should I suspect that I myself deleted the file browser launcher accidentally? The machine is a laptop and I find the mousepad awkward to use.
I'm trying to view the /etc/termcap file, but it doesn't seem to exist. Am I missing something on my install? I used the Fedora Core 14 live CD to install it to my hard disk for a dual boot configuration with Win 7.
View 2 Replies View RelatedOnly "Favourites", "Run Command" and "Leave" is shown on the classic KDE menu, same thing when switching to Launcher Menu Style. Missing Applications and everything else. File associations is not working. Double clicking any type of file it asks to install the program and the known applications menu is empty.
I tried to add a new user, same problem with that. I also noticed that when running Chrome it asks to be the default web browser each time even when I say yes.
I have not been messing with anything, I suspect it happened during a update, but I got the exact same repositories on 2 other x64 machines where there is no problem.
I'm using KDE 4.6.0 from the factory repository.
I tried to reinstall some KDE4 packages without any luck.
I do not want to reinstall the entire system or downgrade KDE.

how to get a right click option to encrypt a file in nautilus. Per the subject line, right click works ok in the other two applications but doesn't seem to have integrated into nautilus. (both KGpg and Seahorse are installed and each seems to work correctly).

Fedora 14 2.6.35.11-83.fc14.x86_64 I have a few webcams I want to serve to web browsers. I downloaded webcam-server, compiled and installed it. Running webcam_server with the -a (test) option, it appears to be doing something. But when I try viewing it with the included Java applet, I get a core dump from the webcam_server process and error messages from the viewing applet. I also cannot successfully view anything with a browser as described in the documentation.

When I try to view ~ in nautilus, the animation in the upper right corner just spins indefinitely. It happens when I run nautilus as root too.Typing "ls -la" in the home folder will cause the term to freeze. Neither "ls -a" or "ls -l" by themselves cause it to freeze The freezing only happens in ~ to my knowledge.The freezing terminal also ONLY happens in xterm, inside gnome. Through ssh I can display the folder contents just fine, and I don't see any strange file names that might be causing an issue.I tried following advice I found, I believe on this site, to "rm -rf ~/.gvfs"I feel that I may e overwritten a fedora-specific library somewhere when trying to compile different things. I don't recall this being an issue immediately after upgrading from fc10 to fc12, though it could have conceivably gone unnoticed.
