I switched from 8.04 to 10.04 and I now cannot install older .sh files by using the "bash" command it says "This installation does not support glibc-2.1 on x86_64" It worked on the same computer with 8.04. How do I get and use an older glibc or whatever was used on 8.04 onto 10.04?
View 9 RepliesI cannot install Kubuntu (or Unbuntu) 10.4 on my husband's computer. I have spent 5 hours on this and cannot get anywhere. I am deeply frustrated. The iso I burned to CD is good (works on 2 other computers). His computer will not boot from USB, no matter what I do to the drive order in BIOS. After loading the blue screen with the Kubuntu logo on it (and the blue-white dots), the screen changes to black and shows the following text:

I wrote a script which send email from linux box.
While i am execute this script i am getting the following message.
/usr/sbin/sendmail: No such file or directory
after searching some posts , i got to know that we should install an rpm file required for sendemail.
i downloaded the file from well known websites. and tried to install using rpm command
rpm -U --nodeps <rmpfilename> --force.
I am unable to install the rpm file, even i am not getting the error meesage on the prompt.
Is there any way to check why the rpm is not getting installed.or there are any pre requisites to install this send email rpm.
prior to this i installed mail rpm on th linux Box
When I attempt to start the install of a .bin file, the prompt is returned almost immediately, no error messages. I have installed other .bin files with no problems. From the file directory I am typing ./file_name.bin. The file has -x from all levels.

I'm new to Linux world. I'm using Ubuntu 9.04. I'm unable to go online using Ubuntu because I'm unable to run an executable client application provided by my ISP. I called them and they are not able to help me instlling this client applicatoin for me on my Ubuntu. "I cannot go online untill I install this ISP client application on my Ubuntu." Then I try to map to the file, but not working.
I switch on the PC and it loads the Grub splash screen. However, it does not automatically boot the top entry after two seconds as it's supposed to and just hangs. I hit enter to boot it and it attempts to but after a few seconds gives me the error "unable to mount file system....a maintenance shell will be started"

I plugged in my USb drive into my computer yesterday and tried to delete a folder. I was unable to do so and got the following message

I've had Ubuntu 11.04 installed on my desktop since it's release. Up until an hour ago, it was working fine. I clicked on an update from the update manager, now booting into a graphical mode is completely broken, (the start-up load hangs at 'Check Battery State ... [0k]'). I restarted my computer, and booted into safe mode, and launched the terminal. This all works fine. I then typed :

Some information which might help, I have Gnome 2, Unity and KDE (not sure which version), installed. My graphics card is the GTX 275, and I have driver the Nvidia driver 275.21. So yeah, I think the update has gone and moved custom.conf somewhere, but I have no idea on how to fix it. I have a graphics programming assignment due on Friday and I would be eternally grateful if I could get this fixed well before then.
I am writting a script to allow uploading of certain files. I want to limit the files by their filename and mime type, and by making sure the two match up.The first thing I need to do is make sure I've got all the mime types I need added. I have never done this before, but I understand that 'file' (which is what PHP's mime-type finding is based off of) uses magic databases that tell at which point in the file should have signatures of the filetype.
My trouble started when I was unable to determine the filetype of any of my video files. Currently, I have some .MOV and .MP4 files that I am using to test.
I have already read the related threads but unfortunately, none of the solutions works/ applies to my problem: Having Ubuntu 10.10 as bootable DVD, I am trying to upgrade from Jaunty. When I do so however, after selcting "Install Ubuntu 10.10" in the installer menu I get the "unable to find medium containing live file system" error. I already installed grub2 and set acpi=off, my DVD is on primary master and, obviously boots as well.

I have a FLAC file with 24-bit samples instead of 16 bits. I could use the flac linux command to obtain a WAVE file and then cdrecord to burn the audio CD. Unfortunately, cdrecord requires 16-bit digital audio as input. Is there a program able to author 24-bit audio CDs either from a FLAC file or from a WAVE file?

I'm trying to install The Sims 2 (which I'm aware currently does not run properly in wine anyway), using the multi-CD version. The installation goes normally, up until it comes time to switch from disc 1 to disc 2. While going to install it, I came across the problem that TCL-interpreter is not available in Debian Linux. Then again I restarted my laptop in Windows Vista and connected my Micromax modem and from internet downloaded TCL8.5.10-src.tar.gz. But while going to install it, I came across the problem that " configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH " . Being paranoid, I created iso-files from the burnt DVD-R and the two burnt CD-R to verify integrity.
The iso-file of the DVD-R was identical to the downloaded image. Both iso-files created from the CD-R were different in size.
The original size of openSUSE-11.3-KDE4-LiveCD-i686.iso is 719.323.136 Bytes.
I only got 718.938.112 Bytes when recreating an ISO-file from my CD-R.
The CD-R is from Sony. When the length of my ISO-file doesn't correspond to the downloaded one, the checksum file verification doesn't work.
Im trying to run a program but my system won't let me.i used to be able to run executable files without a problem but i can't anymore when i double click the file i get "there is no application installed for executable files" i am unable to check "allow executing file as program" in file properties there is a script file which runs the program but all i get from the terminal is "permission denied"
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to get my message modem to read .g3 files under ubuntu (now 10.04) for over a year now, and have tried absolutely every application I can find to no avail.The output is always garbage.Every application tried gives the same result, but the fax is perfect on Windows, but I don't have a Windows machine any more.
I am unable to upload the .g3 file as it is an "invalid attachment" but have saved it to url.I have (hopefully) attached the resultant output from gimp, which is exactly the same with tkusr and efax. The fax is the weekly Debt collection agency touting for business (no, I don't owe them any money - yet)
I believe they all use a common file, something like g3topbm or g3topdf.If I try g2topbm on the command line: every second line has an error e.g: g3topbm: bad code word at row 202, col 5 (len 14 code 0x32), skipping to EOL
The .g3 files are created by a USR message modem which stores the files for later download ('cos the computer gets switched off at night.)

I have an old copy of daemon347.exe.I tried to run it using wine (right clicked on the file and clicked "open with wine"; also tried the "open with wine program loader" option.)After agreeing to the license agreement, I clicked the "Next>" button. But then the setup terminated.I do have an alternative for daemon - the ubuntu mounter. But this happens with quite a few .exe files. Is there a more correct way to operate wine? Either the setup files terminate after a few windows or a few setup files don't run at all.

I am trying to run a jar file which is under /home/paddywang/Downloads I have installed java on my machine, so I tried to use command
java -jar theFile.jar But I got "the Unable to access jarfile" .
I'm running Lucid Lynx and have been trying to burn an MP3 file to a CD-R so I could listen to it in my car. I've tried Brasero, CD/DVD creator, KB3, GnomeBaker, and VLC, and all of them failed in one way or another. Since Brasero comes stock and people have more experience with that one, I think I might describe the troubles with it.
What happens is that it doesn't seem to recognize the blank medium inserted. I open a project (either Audio CD or Data CD), add the files I want to burn. Then it says, "Please insert a writable CD or DVD if you do not want to write to an image file." I insert a blank CD-R, and it spins it, but nothing changes. The pulldown at the bottom still only gives me the choice of writing an image file. No recognition that the blank medium has been inserted and that that is where I want to burn the file. When I hit the
"burn" button, it opens a dialog box, asking me where I want to locate the image file it has called "brasero.cue"
Not sure how to do further troubleshooting on this.When I tried the same thing in GnomeBaker, I got an error message saying the burning has failed. Here's the log file from that:

The burner works fine (as tested in Windows), and it reads CDs and DVDs no problem. I just can't get the burning to complete correctly. I have installed the restricted extras. I'm not really concerned WHICH program I use, I'd just like to be able to burn a CDs for road trips and whatnot.
