On startup my computer tries to mount a partition which I deleted (called Misc) and combined with the space of another. I get this message:Quote:The disk drive for /media/Misc is not ready yet or not supported. Continue to wait, or press S to skip mounting or M for manual recovery.I also notice that the folder for the drive is still listed in nautilus. How do I get rid of it once and for all?

my /dev/sdb was a truecrypt partition that was mounted when I accidentally deleted the partition in gparted (instead of sdc, stupid). I'm pretty sure I haven't overwritten anything since then, but I'm not sure how to go about recovering this one. To confound the problem, the only way I can install stuff to my ubunut machine is by downloading on a windows machine and transferring by memory stick.

I am running a dual boot with Vista and Ubuntu. When I rebooted It will only go to the Grub> prompt. Ive ran TestDisk and though that I had corrected the problem but it didnt. After running TestDisk again here is what It came up with.

i recently deleted a NTFS partition while ubuntu was running and didnt disable the automount and when i tried to restart from what i can see it is trying to mount the partition which does not exist. When booting it says something to the effect of mounting dev/sda5 (which is now ubuntu) NTFS signature incorrect, what file must i change to allow ubuntu to boot because i kind of dont want to reinstall ubuntu and reconfigure it.

Is there a way to reverse this process? Keep in mind I am not Linux friendly being I do not know the commands & so on so any copy paste commands with good detail on what it does would be greatly appreciated!
I used GParted to delete & already hit the accept but no other changes have been made on the HDD after that. I am currently running in Live mode as I was going to install on the 80GB which is the one I meant to delete but instead had a nice moment of insanity & deleted the 500 instead!
sda6 is 10.04 sda 7 was dreamlinux. Deleted DL and on reboot received error 15. Tried super grub but all Linux options fail. Can only get to win 7 I do not have to re-install. I have data galore on 10.04 and not backed up.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI tried to install Ubuntu next to XP. After restart - no XP and no Ubuntu. Something wrong with loader I guess, I see command line prompt (of the loader I guess).
So I restarted from liveCD. But no "Repair Install" option like in XP CD. So, I deleted partition to install again on top of old, then learned a loader possibly could be fixed.
So, the problem is: testdisk cannot restore partition I deleted. I didn't write on disk anything. May be swap space after couple reloads from liveCD corrupted it?
It complains "The harddisk (...) seems to small!", it sees some other partitions and doesn't see what Gparted and Disk Utility.
Let me know the best approach to get back XP running (having Ubuntu would be good too).

Unlike during installation of XP, ubuntu doesn't offer to utilize the deleted partition. Is it going to stay empty/unallocated? Forget the empty space, will I get XP running if I continue and install?
I was messing around with the windows 7 install and wiped a valuable partition on a drive, I ripped the sata cable out afterwards... is there a way to reconstruct the table?

I recently decided to get rid of the ubuntu partition since I've got another laptop that I'm using exclusively for ubuntu (probably a bad decision, but I'm sticking with it.) I backed up the files I care about, and then I deleted all partitions (from windows) except the C:, leaving me with the C: and unallocated space.
Of course, when I go to boot up my computer, it gets stuck on the "loading...please wait" screen that it used to show before showing me my various boot options (several ubuntu ones, and then the windows loader at the bottom). It may say something else before loading, I can't tell since my screen is intact. I suspect my windows 7 installation is still there, but I can't boot into it. I have an HP Pavilion DV2911. I have a live disk, but my optical drive no longer works. I *can* boot from USB (and load stuff onto a flash dive) but I don't know what to do. I have no recovery disk or partition, since I installed windows 7 myself, probably badly. Where do I go from here? Is it a simple boot.exe or MSR error that I can fix? Did I do something worse than that?
RAM of the machine is 4M. I never see the swap partition has been used via system monitor. So can I safely delete the swap partition?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI got an old Sony Vaio from a friend & wanted to keep a stripped down version of windows along side 10.04. During installation when I saw two Windows partitions. I saved the first one which was about 5 gig & deleted the other bigger partition & used ext4 on the free space for Ubuntu. I assume I only kept the recovery partition so basically I have sda1 (recovery partition)ntfs & the rest ext4. If I pick Windows from the grub menu at start-up the recovery starts but then shuts down with an error. I'm assuming its looking for the other ntfs partition to install & can't find it but I'm not sure what to do. I haven't done anything with Ubuntu yet so deleting & reinstalling is not a problem but if I do getting back to the restore menu probably will be. I don't have any disks that came with the computer either.

I've just bought a HP mini compaq laptop. The laptop doesn't have any CD/DVD "reader". So i was forced to download the .iso file to install ubuntu in addition to Windows XP that was present when i bought it. To do so i used UNetbootin, and i used my only hard disk as a live CD. But when i wanted to install ubuntu, they told me to create a partition. The problem is that i can't. I have only one partition sda1(nfst) which covers the whole stockage memory, and an empty space(8Mo). I can't acceed to any of the resizing or modifying options to edit the nfst partition. The only options are manage flags and umount. When i click on this one, they tell me : # umount /cdrom : cdrom is busy.

View 7 Replies View Related10 yr old Dell laptop with NO WORKING DRIVES. i was dual booting xp and xubuntu when i decided it was time to cut the cord. so i installed gparted and deleted my windows partition. now it won't boot. my assumption is that i never installed grub. i got a usb to ide cable so i can access the hard drive from my desktop (xp home edition). i read that grub should be in a folder called "boot". i see on my hard drive that i have: "disks", "winboot" "install", "uninstall-wubi.exe", and "xubuntu.ico". if i expand the "disks" folder, there is a "boot" folder containing another folder called "grub", but the folder is empty. is this where i install it? am i an idiot and missing something stupid? where do i download grub if i need it?
