I've just built a new machine and installed 10.04 Ubuntu on it (like the last one). As Transmission was in the middle of downloading when I changed machines I'd like to move the database/settings so I can carry on where I left off. (I have moved the drives to the new machine). Also want to move JDownloader likewise.

I can only access the Transmission web interface while the Transmission-gtk client is running. When I close it, the web interface is no longer available. I try to manually start the transmission-daemon, but the process never shows up as running.

I want to start off by saying I'm very new to Ubuntu. I have been using Ubuntu for about a week now and have not looked back!! Now on to my issue. I have been tying to update Transmission 1.75(9117) to the lasted version (transmission-1.92) but i can't seem to get the Synaptic Package Manager to find it. I have downloaded transmission-1.92 and extracted it on to the desktop but Synaptic Package Manager still can't find it.

i would really like to install Natty from scratch (i always prefer clean installs than upgrade) , but i am seeding 1500 torrents in transmission most of them sorted in directories, and manually adding them again is a big big pain.and will take alot of time.is there a way i can keep the config file or whatever so i dont have to manually add them all? so that i just add it in the new transmission folder and all torrents appear.i assume one way is to keep the /home folder?? but then what if i want a complete clean new install and this is the only thing i want to keep from the old installation?

For testing purposes is it possible to have two different PHP Versions running on the Same Server? I have Ubuntu 10.04 with PHP 5.3.2 and I an older applcation that will not run on 5.3.2 but will run on 5.2.x - I will be upgrading this application shortly but until then I need it to run using the older PHP.I've seen notes on remove 5.3.2 and install 5.2.10? from teh Karmic packages, but it would be great to have both version running together.

I've made a Live CD of version 10.04 on a machine running 10.04 (amd64). The disk works fine on another machine but does not boot on the machine that created it. The CD/DVD is new and works for other things so I don't think it is this. The Live CD gets to the ISOLINUX screen but instead of "Loading" the screen goes blank and the system shuts down. I've tried everything I can think of (remember the disk works fine on another machine).

We are wavering between a CentOS 5.4 installation (64-bit) and a CentOS 4.x installation (32-bit). Our software is happier with a 32-bit installation, but I wonder if our 64-bit box will have a problem. Can you tell by looking at the data below?

AFAIK, in addition to implementing the standard C library, glibc provides wrappers for system calls, threading support, and basic application facilities. So because of that, glibc that will be used on my target system should be built based on the kernel version running on my target, right?
Based on the above, I am trying to build a glibc version for my target machine's kernel. However, I don't know to to build a glibc library for a target system and also where on the target's filesystem should be put? In which location Linux will start looking for the libraries required for a program to run (should I create an /etc/ld.so.conf file)?

my laptop currently has 8GB of RAM and I wouldn't want that going to waste. I have read about the issues with flash on the 64 bit versions of buntu. Would you recommend going 64-bit or 32-bit with PAE? also, does the 10.10 kernel have PAE enabled by default?

Specifically, I want Clementine player 0.6, but the guy that installed Ubuntu on my laptop put natty narwhal alpha 1 on it (don't ask me why. I wanted maverick since its stable but he never really asked. The whole thing was kinda a surprise), and Clementine only offers downloads for Ubuntu distros up to maverick. So. Can I/is there a way I can install it anyway? Or am I forced to just use Banshee until the official Update comes out and Clementine is updated in....

I've installed CentOS 5.3 on a machine, and I need a Samba version 3.2 or higher. Since 3.4 is out, I thought I'd grab that. But, "yum list|grep samba" gives me only version 3.0.33. Is there a package of Samba I can grab that will upgrade the 3.0 installation so that I don't have two laying around? If not and I need to compile from source, do you have any suggestions for what arguments I should give configure? I'm not used to Linux coming from the BSD world

Short question: It has been possible in earlier releases to create boot floppies from CD install version, for those PCs who haven't a bootable CD drive.11.2 is deployed as a DVD iso, but I need CD isos for an older laptop with a bootable CD drive only, not DVD. Is there a similar possibility for 11.2 also available?I want a full install, not the readonly "Live" versions.

I have two different laptops that I would like to make bootable flash drive installs for, but would then like to have at least /home on a common removable storage (either a big flash drive or USB or ethernet hard drive) to share between the two laptops (I'll only be using one laptop as a Linux box at a time). One laptop (Dell Latitude D410) is only 32 bit capable (Pentium M - I think there's a 64 bit Core 2 CPU available for the socket 479, but I don't know if the BIOS / mobo will support it). If I'm going back and forth between 32 and 64 bits, can I share /home? What else can I share - /usr or anything else?
