I have tried installing gammu-smsd on both hardy and jaunty... this is the error I'm getting... Quote: The following packages have unmet dependencies: gammu-smsd: Depends: libgsmsd7 but it is not going to be installed Depends: libpq5 (>= 8.4~0cvs2009032 but 8.3.9-0ubuntu9.04 is to be installed E: Broken packages radio@SMSgateway:~$
I have tried looking for both of these packages individually but to my suprise no luck!! And when I google such error messages, nothing comes up.. don't know exactly where to put this. I'm having problem with gammu smsd, following error occurred when issuing command "gammu-smsd --config /etc/gammu-smsdrc":
"Error connecting to database: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)"
but database login credential is correct. Following are my gammu configs. located at /etc:

I am using Ubuntu 9.04. After doing sudo apt-get update When I try to insatll pidgin via terminal it shows: XXX@XXX-desktop:~$ sudo apt-get install pidgin Reading package lists... I try to install git packages, when I type ./configure it gives me the error:

I have the following error in 10.04. I've tried several times to uninstall, resolve, install these dependencies and am at my wits end now. This morning I gave up on OpenJDK and installed Sun JDK, hence the sun versions below. But this error is stopping me from installing anything else.

I couldn't compile gammu-1.28 on my Fedora 13 when running ./configure.To make sure what i'm doing, i was install cmake from fedora repository directly using "yum install cmake" and completed. And then to make sure again, i was update my gcc using "yum update gcc". But there was still errors during running ./configure. Finally, i decided to update all needed inside my fedora using "yum update" to make sure again.

So recently I've been exploring my options in terms of a desktop environment. trying out different options (Blackbox, Enlightenment ect..) and somehow in the process i managed to uninstall Gnome.
Normally I would just re-install it but whenever I try I get this:

So I go through synaptic and it tells me, to install 'swfdec-mozilla' i need to uninstall 'epiphany-extensions' so I do that. and then the terminal gives me the same error as before.. only it say that 'epiphany-extensions' is not going to be installed.

I am trying to upgrade to ubuntu 11.04 from my current 10.10 system. If I try to upgrade with Upgrade Manager it stops at calculating upgrade step and I can see red circle at top left corner, hovering over this gives message -

im Art and I'm currently taking my thesis, and would require me to use Gammu SMS Daemon. I downloaded Wammu,and Gammu SMS Daemon using the ubuntu software manager, and downloaded gammu again using apt-get i configured my gammu properly and i am currently able to send sms using gammu command

this was my gammu-smsd file... BTW i used xampp/lampp and its MySQL for database... im a little new to gammu sms daemon. I had read the manual. But still a little confusing.. did i miss something or have i configured something wrong?

I seemed to configure my gammu and changed the version indicated version on my gammu table from 10 to 11 to match the version of my sql, upon starting my gammu-smsd the error:

I am currently trying to upgrade over 100 rpms on multiple Red Hat servers. Whenever I try to do a rpm -u /packages/*.rpm i recieve a failed dependencies error on the very first rpm. I know that I can go though each rpm one by one and trace each dependency but that will take forever. Is there a way to skip these errors? I know the -nodeps command for rpm but I dont want to screw something up but running all of these rpms on -nodeps

I am running a video script on my server and I am very new to running a dedicated server and commands. Most of our site was setup but other and someone has broke something and no one seems to know how to fix.
Here is the issue. We run a script that uses these requirements

Now our server guy ran a update inside webmin for debian and now our videos still convert but wont make thumbs. Here is what he did.
Now updating libsmbclient ..
Now the AVS script wont make thumbs and webmin still wants to do 3 more updates that get unmet dependencies errors. Here they are when we try to run another update.
Building complete list of updates ..
Now what we need to do is either undo the update he already did or maybe get the one its asking for now to work but not sure which one will fix our thumb generating problem? Here is the error in the log file of the AVS script.

Well - as you can see on this site i can see packages with depends (ex. frozen-bubble): click to Debian packages site, click for packages.ubuntu.com. I can download packages with their depends easily from that sites. How i can get rpm with depends? I need to collect everything on usb flash drive and install on off-line machine without any problems. I can download single rpm with yumdownloader but i need depends too. Koji not satisfy me - no depends info. I need to download few apps from repo (on machine with internet connection), but with their depends - how? Or maybe there is something like Keryx for rpm-based distros?

I'm trying to install the driver for my printer, from a repo at Kyoto University. Did it before on other distros (Etch, Lenny,...). One of the three packages has an unmet dependency, libcupsys2-gntls..... (or something- doesn't matter, it's long gone). I expected to be able to use the -d option in apt-get to download it, and unpack it by hand, and place the vital parts in the right positions manually. Done that before, somehow, not necessarily this way. But apt-get won't let me download it, because of the unmet dependency.
Is apt-get really that stupid? If I only want to download it, why does it matter if there is an unmet (and, these days, unmeetable) dependency? Could I download it some other way? I've looked at Aptitude, and can't make head nor tail of it. Synaptic? Have I got the command right? #apt-get -d install package. EDIT: Tried #apt-get install -d package. Also apt-get --download-only --force-yes package. Or I could be really subversive, and copy the two essential files across from my Puppy system. Puppy didn't notice that this lib was missing, just got on with it. Funny old world, isn't it?

I have compiled FFMPEG (and also mplayer and x264) from scratch to always run the latest version. I install ffmpeg using "checkinstall". When compiling FFMPEG manual and installing with checkinstall ffmpeg provides the following libraries: libavutil49, libavcodec52, libavdevice52, libavformat52, libavfilter0, libpostproc51, libswscale0
These can NOT be installed via apt-get (or similar) or the checkinstall will fail. So I have not installed them. The problem now is when I need to install a package (.dep or from Synaptic) that requires one of these a prerequisite. Then it is not "registered" by Synaptic that these are already provided through the FFMPEG build. I have tried to use the --provides flag on checkinstall and I can also see in Synaptic that on the ffmpeg package I installed with checkinstall that it says it provides said packages. I even have tried to modify the checkinstall script and add:
Replaces: libavutil49, libavcodec52, libavdevice52, libavformat52, libavfilter0, libpostproc51, libswscale0
This also triggers Synaptic to list that ffmpeg replaces the packages. But still when I try to install anything that needs these packages it is not recongnized that they are provided by FFMPEG and when I install one of them (e.g. apt-get install libavformat52) then it replaces the FFMPEG library and FFMPEG stops working. So what is going wrong? Is this a bug in Synaptic? How is it possible under ubuntu to install manual compiled packages and have them "act" as correct dependencies for others?

I'd like to update /etc/apt/sources.list with all the packages available on packages.debian.org and packages.ubuntu.com without apt-get, aptitude, and synaptic then trashing my system by trying to update all the obsolete packages. (I'm stuck with 8.04) I only want to update the packages / install new ones with their dependencies as I request them. How do I do that?

I have a computer with 128 ko of RAM (a very old one). I installed yesterday ubuntu 8 because ubuntu 9 requires 512 ko of RAM and was very slow. Now, I have problems to update packages and to install every thing. I changed the sources.list because it seems that links are no more available according to the error messages. (I have put many adresses for ubuntu 9 because I think the kernel is the same not as the kernel for ubuntu 10). But new problems have occurred like "broken dependencies". Now I want to correct, and I don't know how? I'm still a beginner with this OS.

I'm hitting my head against the wall trying to figure out (and find any information on) how to download a package and all its dependencies.I've tried to clean the cache,$ sudo apt-get clean and then download a package and its depednencies,but it doesn't download dependencies that are already installed.I need to do this to install a package on a machine that doesn't see the net.I remember doing this somehow ages ago, and I think I might have even combined the package and its dependencies into a single self-contained .deb using dpkg.
