I've been wanting to disable the unitybar and replace it with Docky (Dock application) Is there a way to disable it while keeping the theme? If not can I disable the taskbar in classic Gnome desktop somehow?

So i have been playing around with docky lately and i freaking love it, i love this little docky. why the ubuntu devs chose that ugly unity side panel over docky i will never know but any hoo onto my question.
Would it be possible to replace all the gnome panels with docky? i need to be able to access my applications, places, system in the top panel and my wifi manager but other than that docky does everything else, is there a way to get the above mentioned in docky?

I like playing games on Ubuntu, but it's such a pain in the neck when I have to click something with my mouse pointed at the bottom of the screen. The game's graphics flash, as the dock appears. Is there a way I can disable Docky during full-screen games?

I certainly do not want to install Elementary OS, and just want a similar interface. I already installed docky, but Unity gets in the way. Is there a way I can disable that? Also, can I hide the docky application icon on Docky? Or is there a better way to do this?

I don't want to go into a lot of detail as to why, but suffice to say, I detest autocomplete, anywhere, in any form. I'll leave it at that and save the venting for another time. Now, I've disabled autocomplete within a document, that's not too hard, by disabling the "Enable word completion." But, that seems to have no effect on the "Find & Replace" box. Googling doesn't seem to find anything, except another person that also seems to hate it on the OpenOffice message boards, and they were not helpful. That was also about five years ago, if that makes any difference.

Can the Replace function replace more than one word with the same character(s)?
Also, do you know how to access the plugins provided by the gedit-plugins package?

I like to try different combinations of *buntu in the several partitions on my first drive. One combo I enjoy playing with is the Minimal CD with Openbox or some other small footprint window manager.I'd like to try Docky, but the need for compositing is a problem for me. I don't want to install Gnome, KDE, or XFCE, because I don't want all the stuff that comes with them. Can you tell me the packages I need to install to get Docky working? Are Compiz and Docky enough? Will Compiz serve as a standalone window manager and automatically start at logon?

When I try to install docky through the synaptic package manager I receive this dialog box saying,
docky:
Depends: libgnome-keyring1.0-cil (>=1.0.0) but it is not installable
Depends: libmono-addins0.2-cil (>=0.6) but 0.4-6 is to be installed
Recommends: dockmanager but it is not going to be installed

I've already Googled this problem, and it seems that the only solution is running:
Code:
nvidia-settings -a InitialPixmapPlacement=2 -a GlyphCache=1
in the terminal. However, this barely helped me.
I've heard it's a problem Docky has with nVidia drivers, which I use.
Does anyone have a solution? Docky is so slow it is essentially unusable at this point. Cairo dock seems too glitchy, so I guess it's back to AWN.

This year in college I've had the liberty to be learning about Linux. This was mostly in the shell so a lot of GUI applications we didn't use. The fun part of this all is that once you know how to work in Bash. Linux isn't all so frightening and confusing anymore ! So I've decided to finally take the shot on switching from Windows to Ubuntu Desktop and I must say I'm quite amazed with the customization you can do in Ubuntu.I just installed Docky and I installed Gnome Do. Now it has come to my attention that Gnome Do can integrate with Docky however I do have a small question concerning the customization of the Dock bar. In Gnome Do I would really like to have the panel look from Docky and I was wondering if this is possible. To me it seems that it's only possible to use the 3D look which looks a lot like Mac OSx. I'm aiming for a bit of a Windows 7 interface however.

Look at the screenshot, I have only one file in trash but AWN and Docky counts 47+1 items. When it's empty it counts 47, and there's no way to really empty. But files are really gone. It doesn't happens with Cairo Dock (I don't know why).

I'm running 10.10 (32bit), and for some reason, whenever I have Docky running in 3D mode, it glitches up, and I can see graphics/lines extending out of the dock.
My ATI drivers seem to be fine.

It's been two weeks now since I can't have my inbox checked on Docky's Gmail applet, and its a drag because I need an integrated mail notification and Docky is perfect.
So, here are the facts:
- have tried it on both 10.04 i386 and 10.10 amd64, identical problem
- after new installation works on till the first reboot, then stops. You see just the icon and when clickin "refresh" there's no "turning circle thingy inside the icon" which tells you it's refreshing. (and there's mail in the inbox).
- I haven't managed to find the docky configuration file, only something in the cache and configuration directory in home. Where is the real configuration file for Docky?
I'm talking about the 2.1 version.

I recently installed stacks for Docky using the script of this link here [URL]
Until that, everything is okay. I can drag and drop folders to Docky, and when I click 'em I can easily see it's content like in Mac OS or Cairo.
But the problem here is that I wanted to make an Application folder like in Mac OS X. I made a folder that I called aplications and there I put all the applications I have installed.
But, when I try to open an app from the Docky, it just opens gedit with info about the app I'm trying to open. Is it related that all the application's names are .desktop files? Is that an executable?
Below I leave two caps, the first is of the folder opened in Docky stacks. The second is of what I get when I try to open and application directly from stacks.

In today's updates there was an update for Docky to go from 2.0.5 to 2.0.6. The thing I thought was odd was that the update was only around 600 or 700kb in size where as its normally around ~13mb.
When I restarted the computer docky loaded but the whole system froze and wouldn't respond to either mouse or keyboard so I did a hard restart. Now Docky won't load either on restart or from the program menu but it is present in the System Monitor (see attached image).

Also i'm trying to find out how gnome-do and docky function: where does it pick up the icons for my launchers from? some icons are awefully low in resolution although the high resolution ones are in stock in /usr/share/icons/gnome/appsFinally i can't find where the custom settings of docky are saved, is there a configuration file somewhere?

Does this happen to anyone? Is there fix for it? The problem doesn't appear immediately but seems to develop some time after launching docky. Some relevant specs:
- Ubuntu 9.10
- GeForce GTX 285 with 195.36.15 drivers
- Compiz enabled
I've attached a picture of it hiding behind Firefox.

I am a somewhat new user to Ubuntu, and I just upgraded to 10.04 from 9.10. I did not do a clean install, just an upgrade by running "update-manager -d". Once I upgraded, lots of problems started happening:
- I booted up, and nothing came up but text like in a command prompt; not a splash screen. Is that correct? - When I logged in, none of my windows had tops (i.e. Window Title, Buttons for minimize, maximize, and close). I changed the theme and turned on the max graphical effects, and that fixed it. (by the way, I know my graphics card can handle it because that is how it was set up on 9.10)
- ...Then, I took off the bottom panel and added Docky. Once I added my icons to it, I restarted, and then the window headers were once again gone, and Docky popped up a message in the top right saying it needed Composite support turned on (i.e. Metacity or Compiz). I turned it on in Metacity (I also have Compiz installed), but nothing changed. So now I have no tops to my windows and have to resort to ALT+F4 to close windows, etc, and I have a huge black rectangle taking up the lower 1/4 of my screen that is just black, with Docky in it...it isn't just a border around it like some other posts have said, but rather takes up almost half my screen.

I would like to remove the anchor icon from Docky. I found instructions to go into gconf-editor and set "apps/docky-2/docky/items/DockyItem/ShowDockyItem" to false. Only problem is, this item does not appear.
The only folders in apps/docky-2/docky/items/ are ColoredIconDockItem and WnckDockItem. Inside ColoredIconDockItem, there's a key called DockyItem set at value 193. I tried changing/deleting that and restarting Docky, but it keeps defaulting back. I also removed and reinstalled Docky, but I found the same thing. Does anyone know how I can find the right value to change?
