Ubuntu :: Convert Jpg/png To Eps Within Shell?
Dec 20, 2010
I need to frequently convert jpg/png to eps. Usually I use GIMP and it works fine. I would like to perform the conversion via shell (maybe with a script) without opening any graphical window. I used the command convert of ImageMagick but the quality is poor, I assume that it is because of some parameter to set I do not know. I know the question is trivial and full of posts around but I'm wasting time without finding what I'm really looking for.

I have some checksums.md5 verification files from an ntfs external drive, but using windows notation: instead of /, spaces between file names (not escaped), reserved shell characters (like (, &, ', to name a few). The checksums.md5 has a bunch of checksums and filenames:
[code]...
I want to use this checksums.md5 to verify the files that I've copied to my machine: but I'm on a Linux, so I need to convert the names inside checksums.md5 from Windows to Linux to use the md5sum utility from the shell. The first line in my example would become: f12f75c1f2d1a658dc32ca6ef9ef3ffc My Windows & Files (2010)/[bak]/testing.wmv Is there some application for this (converting a file listing, from windows cmd notation, to linux shell notation) or will I need to create a bash script using sed that just "replaces" what is "wrong" with the filenames

Is there tool or a regexp that can convert shell escape characters to HTML code?
As an example, here is a logfile from GNU screen:
Which I would like to convert to something like this:
And send as HTML e-mail to an e-mail address, to archive my work.
Here is a related question, which shows how to convert it to regular text, but it would be nice to convert to HTML and not just throw the escape characters away.

I have a series of input files formatted like this:
Code:
RTREVF, KOG3266 = 111
RTREVF, KOG3294 = 130
RTREVF, KOG3295 = 177
WAGF, KOG3307 = 107
JTTF, KOG3320 = 174
Each line represents a portion of a data matrix. I want to convert the numbers after the "=" to the range of that partition in the matrix such that the output file looks like this:
Code:
RTREVF, KOG3266 = 1-111
RTREVF, KOG3294 = 112-241
RTREVF, KOG3295 = 242-418
WAGF, KOG3307 = 419-525
JTTF, KOG3320 = 526-699

An easy way to convert wav files into mp3 (or ogg).
$ sudo-apt-get install nautilus-script-audio-convert mpg321 vorbis-tools lame nautilus-script-manager.
after that run
$ nautilus-script-manager enable ConvertAudioFile
Now, when you right click on audio file, under 'scripts', you will see ConvertAudioFile option.

I have Ubuntu 9.04 and just installed Sound Converter. I am trying to convert a bunch of .ogg files to mp3 to play on my iPod and it's not working so well. In the Sound Converter options I have is set to convert to high quality mp3. I choose the folder that the files are in and after a moment (slow laptop) Sound Converter populates, I hit 'convert' and it shows that the conversion completes in two seconds. All that it did was create the new folder structure of artist/album but there is nothing in there. Not sure what I am missing. I used Sound Converter before and it worked fine.

I have a lot of .flac files downloaded from several sites. Most of them come with a .cue file, and the .jpg with the cover, etc. It seems it is the intention of the uploader that one rebuilds the original CDDA. However, if I had a stand-alone CD/DVD player with flac I would hardly see the point of converting the flac to cdda. Furthermore, I could even play the flacs with a software player although, in this case, the audio quality would not be so good due to the noise picked up by the signal from the PC digital circuits.

Is there any way I can switch my desktop shell from unity to, say, gnome-shell? I can switch using other console shell I like (bash, csh, fish, etc.). Assume that there is a stable alternative desktop shell, I should be able to choose, too.
(For console shell, we goes to /etc/passwd. But for desktop, I can't find the way to config.)

if [ $# -eq 0 ] ; then
d=`pwd`
for i in * ; do
if test -d $d/$i ; then

Is there some type of functional way to read things in the Python shell interpreter similar to less or more in the bash (and other) command line shells?
Example:
Code:
>>> import subprocess
>>> help(subprocess)
...
[pages of stuff to read]
...
I'm hoping so as I hate scrolling and love how less works with simple keystrokes for page-up/page-down/searching etc.

I have a situation where I am in a non-interactive shell. I have tried from within my non-interative shell to spawn an interactive shell but my output still does not goto me. Isn't there a way I can somehow go into /proc or somwhere and make the output my /dev/tty1? Or some way else to remedy this?The situation arises because I drop from my restricted shell environment (a sort of CLI interface), into the actual Linux shell. I cannot change the code of the CLI environment I am just faced with being in the linux shell environment and its non-interactive. Its very annoying to have to put > /dev/tty1 after every command I type.
Not to mention it seems damn near impossible to get pagers like more and less to work properly when your in a non-interactive shell.

My Mac crashed, and the Hd is in trouble, however I have Linux, and no windows or anything. So I took my backup DMG, to install it. However I cannot get it on a disk, and Mac cannot boot. Is there a way to convert it to an ISO, then just use Brasero Disk Burner to regularly burn it onto a DVD+DL?
