Ubuntu :: Video Paused During Hibernation Now No Audio
Apr 3, 2010
i don't know if this is an ubuntu problem or kde problem, but... yesterday, i put my computer into hibernation with a few programs open...one of them was vlc; i had a video paused when i went into hibernation. when i booted back into it, my audio wasn't working for anything... system sounds, programs, flash video online, etc. i went into the sound options and noticed that the 'test' button was giving me sound for hda intel (alc268 analog) but not for pulse audio...well, for a while now, my programs tells me 'hda intel not working, falling back on pulse audio' or some such thing...which is why it's so odd that hda intel is working when i click 'test' in the options but pulse isn't. but it still falls back on pulse for every program, and since pulse isn't giving me any sound......
i'm not getting audio and i don't know how to fix it. hda intel hasn't been working properly for a while, but again, falling back on pulse still worked so i was always too lazy to learn how to fix that. oddly enough, i did manage to get it working again with amarok...at first nothing was outputting sound, but now amarok is working again. but that's it - nothing in vlc, videos isn't making sound, no pidgin im noises, no startup and shutdown sounds, nothing. it's very baffling. all i know is that when i booted back in from hibernation, my volume controls were muted and my internet wouldn't let me connect and said 'networking disabled'. i had to restart to get that working again and i thought nothing of it until i noticed i had no audio.
I have a video file in which the audio runs faster than the video, so they quickly go out of sync. The way to fix it would be to separate the audio and video streams, speed up the video (the audio is FINE, it's the video that's wrong), and then recombining them. What is the easiest way for doing that?
Is there an application that anyone knows about that I can use to convert either an .flv or .ogg file that contains both audio and video to just an audio .ogg file (preferably vorbis+theora) without audacity? I'm fairly certain audacity could accomplish this but it seems like overkill for what I'm trying to do and the computer I'm trying to use does not run it so well.
::EDIT:: I should also mention that I've tried looking on google. I did find downloadhelper extension for firefox which uses ffmpeg to convert the files but I don't see any obvious way to strip the video.
Setting up a linux based church server to be placed with a collocation host.
-- Server will be used for: --- providing .pdf files --- live streaming of church services (audio for now audio video soon) --- providing audio files --- providing audio-video files --- our internet web site
A. Is there a preferred Linux distribution that will make this easier?
B. What is the best format for audio and video files that will be viewed variously on Linux, Mac, and Microsoft operating systems? Files will need to be played on older versions of operating systems and may need a free or very low cost software to play (e.g. play on Win2k)
C. What software is best for recording the audio or audio-video files? Some additional funding might be justified for this software, particularly if it can also support live streaming.
D. What software is best for live streaming both on the file creation and the listening-viewing sides of the process?
Ideally we would like to have a single software suite to live stream, and make downloadable audio or audio-video files for later download, and not require those listening and viewing to have to install additional software. Keeping file sizes small is also desirable because some of our users will probably only have dial-up internet.
When I install Fedora core 12 from DVD (I downloaded iso file from Internet and burned it to DVD). After the first screen display, I choice the first command (and the other time, I choice the second), and then, the installation began. But, about 1 minute after, the installation paused (may be stopped) and never continue. I don't know why. I installed Windows 7 before and I want to install Fedora 12 as a second OS. My laptop is HP Pavilion dv4.
I am using a Toshiba Satellite with an HP Officejet7410. I installed the printer last night, printed a test page and went to bed smiling. This morning, I try to print and nothing. Fedora see the printer, but keeps saying it is paused or is not connected. The test page printed out the following.

I recently started having a strange problem: whenever skype makes a sound, e.g. when a contact logs in or out, rhythmbox puts itself into paused mode. this is even reproducible. when I go in to the skype settings, sound devices, and click on "Make a test sound", rhythmbox pauses whatever song it's playing. here's some debug output:
I have a Dell Inspiron 1525, X-UB 8.04. Audio: I want to be able to turn the volume up or down, I cannot find any control that does this. Video brightness: this has 2 settings in BIOS, (a) on battery (b) on AC power. From time to time something (I have no idea what) turns the (b) setting down from 8 to 2 and the screen becomes very murky. The only way I know to fix this is to shut down & restart & go into the BIOS & turn it back up. Is there a way to reset (b) without having to shut down & restart? Is there a way to discover what bit of S-ware is the culprit?
I installed ubuntu there is another problem iam getting is that i cant play any audio file or video file when i clicked on the file it is saying search for suitable codec when i click on search it is.
when i had windows xp i used to convert almost any videos video into audio (the whole video into audio) by going to [url], downloading vdownloader and just inserting the url in the box provided; waiting for a couple of minutes and having an mp3 format file at the location that i want it to be in the desktop. when i searched for something similar for linux, because vdownloader was an .exe file and obviously wasn't going to work on ubuntu.
i found that i could get a video downloaded from videos but not an audio - i wait for the video to finish buffering; click on places; computer; file system; tmp; then rename the video folder and copy/relocate it to where ever on the desktop. ending with this video format "flash video (video/x-flv)". my question is: is there a linux program where i get to convert the entire video format to an audio format, possibly mp3?
i was tweaking some settings on mplayer and now when the video is playing fine the audio is gone, not only from mplayer but also from all the applications

Is there a video editor that also allows me to edit the audio. For example I have 2 videos and want to take the audio from one clip and add it to the other clip. I have tried Avidemux and Pitivi but these don't seem to have this ability.
I have ubuntu 9.10. Video is working , but sound not working. When I type, sudo aplay -l, a message **** List of Playback Hardware Devices **** shown. But there is no list. My computer is Intel 810 onboard sound AC '97 (codec ) system. More information in this page: [URL]
I've recorded some video in the field, i.e. outside, windy, noisy, etc. I would like to strip out the audio, clean it up in Audacity and then repatriate it back to the video. Video is in .mp4 format.
since i upgrade my pc to 10.04 lucid i cannot get any audio when i play videos on the web. i can have tried videos, comcast, hulu, etc... the video plays just fine, but no audio. i can go to apple.com and play videos just fine with audio. i can play any other audio just fine (mp3's, cd's, etc...). so i have narrowed it down to possibly a flash player issue. i have tried flashplayer-nonfree, flashplugin, etc... and no luck. here is where it gets weird. i saw a similar post and they tried creating a new account and it worked. so i tried that. i created a test account and all of the videos play just fine without any issue.
does anyone know if there is a way to rebuild or repair an account in ubuntu? i have checked all of the group memberships and they all match the new account that i setup.
My work just installed a new surveillance system and it uses .box video files and .idx audio to go along with it. They have a windows program to view them but I would love to keep on using my Ubuntu laptop.
For some reason, I cannot record video with cheese. I cannot record video and audio on ....., just video. I can record audio on sound recorder. Why can't I get both? I have an e-machines (acer)em-250, 2g ram, 2ghz intel atom processor. Using Moon Os 4 neak (ubuntu 10.10 variant). I have downloaded and installed ffmpeg, and all other codecs. I can also get video on google voice and video, but no audio. Obviously I have a built-in webcam and mic. I've had this problem with every ubuntu distro I've tried since Oct. of 2010. This netbook came with Win. xp, and I had no problems with this issue then. I would just REALLY like to be able to use my webcam and be able to record video and audio.
i'm able to get videos without any issues. but i'm not able to receive video/audio from foxnews and other video sources. the on screen gizmo just keeps spinning without downloading any video or audio.
I recorded a video from my DVB-T device Xine (and other Xine based players like Kaffeine) just play video and there is no audio (While other video formats has no problem! I tried with xine-ui , gxine and Kaffeine). But that video has no problem in mplayer or VLC! this is gxine report on video meta info:
Code: Audio Codec: AAC 2.0 (libfaad) Audio Format: 6 Channels, 32 bit, 44.1kHz, 54000 bps Video Codec: h.264/AVC (ffmpeg) Video Format: 720x576, 25.0 fps, 1.36:1, 0 bps System layer: MPEG_TS
I seem to be having some audio clashes. I use Exaile to play music (if that matters), and after I play music, no sound comes out of videos (not just Ubuntu, it won't work from Yahoo or MSN videos either). Then when I try to go back to playing my music on Exaile, no sound will come out of that. Likewise, if I restart the computer... the sound works again. If I instead watch a video first, there will be sound -- but as soon as I try to play music from Exaile, nothing comes out.
I'm using a PS3 Eye, which seems to work out of the box on my Ubuntu 9.10 system (both Skype, and Cheese). When I have a pidgin chat window open for one of my contacts, in the media options (under Conversation) the audio, video, and audio/video option is ghosted out (non selectable).
I have the Video plugin checked (ticked), with the input video selected (the cam shows up in the list, and it's selected): for the Eye, I select for both the Audio and Video device. But when I close the plugin configuration window, it defaults back to "Default" which i'm guessing is part of the problem. The audio and video options in pidgin is relative to my system correct? So even if the other user doesn't have that capability, it'll still let me use audio/video for them?
