I'm using Hardy x64 and I'm wondering if there's a version of Skygrabber that will work on Ubuntu.
I've downloaded the trial versions of Skygrabber and Tuner4PC, but these are for Windows only. I suppose I could load these in Wine, which I have, but I don't know how to do it? I haven't even been able to get the version of Internet Explorer that comes with Wine 1.0 to work. However, Notepad works.
I have a doubt, may sound funny but wanna know whether it is possible to share DVD drive in windows [version 7] and use it in Linux system [version fedora 12]?

View 5 Replies View RelatedAny of you have any idea on how to install the Modelsim SE edition offered by mentor graphics for linux operating systems? I found a link from google vaguely explaining this. I tried out but it did not seem to work. I am very comfortable right now with modelsim and I hate to migrate to some other simulaiton software which may reside inside ubuntu's software center repository.
Any ideas how to install this? I tried running the command start install.linux through the terminal. It did not work. i tried using wine's command prompt to run it which also didn't seem to work
I'm on gentoo trying to emerge a kernel 2.4, i have the sources already compiled butt i have problems with init.
So, i guess is better to download an old version of debian, one with the kernel 2.4.
I nee to load an old module, compiled for a 2.2 kernel, and i don't have the sources. So, maybe with a 2.4 kernel i can.
Where i can find a precompiled system with a 2.4 kernel, and from the i go on.
wher can I download an older version. My system has less then 1 gig of ram so I can not run the 11.3 version, I tried 5 times.

I basically want to use it as a smart backup system and to keep track of past versions, but I don't need merging, patching, etc... My typical needs are the following:Work on a file many times and committ the changes every couple of days.Every now and then, try something new, and do it on a new branch. If it doesn't work, go back to the original one.
Take a look at a previous version (often a binary file, say a pdf or dvi file).I have used git so far, for no special reason, but I haven't been able to get comfortable with it, specially since it only handles text files efficiently (I think). My main issue is with point 3 above, I haven't found a way (maybe there's just no way) of pointing to a previous version of a file and opening it in an external program. Would CVS or SVN or any other version control system allow me to do this easily?

I have an XP laptop, currently running very low on HDD space and RAM capacity, waiting to be replaced. Very slow indeed. It recently had problems booting up, and now takes about 20 minutes to get fully started. Is it safe/advisable to run the demo version of Ubuntu from the LiveCD? I really can't afford to trash or crash my computer, it's got lots of important data on it etc.

However, a collegue of mine cannot install my application, and when I try to find out why I see that He is still looking at libqt4 version 4.5 in the repository. Notably, He recently made a dist-upgrade (I believe is the term) from Karmic to Jaunty and from Jaunty to Lucid.Does anyone know why he has a different repository, or perhaps even what I could do to get Him up to 4.6 in an apt-ly manner, so to speak?

Running "NetworkManager" or "systemctl enable NetworkManager.service" does not fix the issue. Anyone else get this today? I know there was a similar known bug during pre-release.
View 14 Replies View RelatedAfter a recent update of fedora 15 (2 days ago) I lost my networkmanager icon in top panel completely. Then I check network manager version & found it's version 0.8.0.9997-5.git20110702. After this update I can't connect to internet by any means either via wired or wireless connection. When I try to open Network option from system settings it giving me an error: System network services are not compatible with this version.
I also try to open network-connection-editor by pressing Alt+F2 & typing:
nm-connection-editor
But it not works as well, I can't see any existing network connection there, moreover I can't even manually add any type of network connection there including mobile broadband! Then I do some googling from my windows machine & found this thread- [URL]. According to this thread I try to do downgrading of following 3 packages-

networkmanager-glib
networkmanager-gnome
But I can't downgrade via yumex as there's no internt connection in fedora. so i do a trick of myself. yumex suggests me to downgrade them to previous version 0.8.0.999-2.git20110509
so i manually download those 3 packages from my windows machine & copy them to /var/cache/yum/... folder. After that I do downgrading via yumex. But even after downgrading problem isn't solved. Same things happening still. No networkmanager icon in top panel & no internet
at present, there's no internet connection in my fedora 15 machine & I'm writing this post from my windows machine.
Moreover when I give this command in terminal:

Have used Linux for a long time, but never set up a system myself. It is my intention to get a barebones system from Shuttle called "SG41J1 PLUS" and run Linux on it.
This has the following H/W components:
- Intel Core2 Quad
- Chipset Intel G41 + ICH7
- VGA Intel X4500
- Sound IDT 92HD89C
- Ethernet Marvell 88E8057
Can I assume that the Intel ICH7 would be supported and the graphics too ?
For the Ethernet controller I obtained drivers (source code) from the manufacturer, so I hope this should be fine.
For the sound chip I don't know yet whether I could get drivers. Are there any ? I had a look at the ALSA project's site but could not see exactly this sound chip mentioned.
Should I expect any problem if I wanted to run a 64-bit version of Linux on that machine ?
I'm trying to connect to a Win XP computer via Remote Desktop/Terminal Server. (Note: WinXP refers to Remote Desktop, or RDP; Ubuntu uses Terminal Server client for this function.)
The problem is that my XP computer requires the use of Microsoft's RDP version 6 because it uses a Terminal Server Gateway. The TS client in Ubuntu is compatible with version 5, not version 6.
Is there a MS RDP version 6 compatible program/client for Linux?
As i know, windows server 2008 can be installed on desktop.

I dont have eny version or experiance of linux at the moment and im a bit of a neanderthal when it comes to computers. im trying to diside what version of linux to use to reformat my other computer, bearing in mind my main priority is gaming. which version would you think would be best?

I am trying to get DVDStyler (version 1.8.2.1) to work on my Arch system.As soon as I try to create an ISO, burn a DVD, etc, it crashes with the following message:

I've installed the latest testing version, which has 2.6.32 kernel perfect for me. I was very amazed when check system monitor and saw it runs with 90MB RAM, meanwhile my ubuntu desktop takes only 400, and the pocket version of ubuntu on vmware has 180MB RAM.
The questions is: Debian runs on vmware 7. Could the amount of RAM change when switching to a normal environment? Or I have to test and see what is happening..What problems could occur when using a testing version?
I have been using for over a year now, my 64-bit computer first with Fedora 8 and now with Fedora 10 with 2Gb of RAM just fine. Today I purchased an extra 2Gb for the system and upon installation from the GRUB screen Fedora 10 simply won't boot. It does boot with 3Gb, and it doesn't matter which stick I use for the 3Gb configuration, or what slot do I put the sticks into the motherboard, however if I place the four sticks, F10 simply won't boot. Should I pass a command line argument tot he kernel? If so, which?
