View 9 RepliesI'm fully aware that Linux, and Mac OS X are a far reach from Windows when it comes to viruses. I run Xubuntu 11.04 on the netbook, and Mac OS X 10.4 on a Mac Mini. But, and I now wish I kept the email and didn't delete the account, but the following happened recently: I received an email, from myself (I was on my own contacts list) that was sent to a few others on my contacts list - an email I did not send out. There was no subject, and an unclickable link that - once copy/pasted and gone to, was "Forbidden," even when you took the /s away and went to the main site, it was "Forbidden." It was a .be website (Belgium). Being that one of the recipients was "noreply@craigslist.com" I can only assume that this email was automated.
It was only sent to a few addresses, all of which were tied to my account. I changed the password, deleted my contacts, and deleted the address (and have a new one elsewhere). I ran ClamAV on here, an antivirus on my Mac Mini (and I'm running a different one now), and thus far, absolutely nothing. So my question is - Is it, then, even reasonably possible that either of my computers are infected, and if not, how did this occur? I'm just taken aback a little, considering I don't use or have Windows on any machine that I own, and extremely rarely use Windows when elsewhere (and not at all recently).
I'm using Slackware 13. When a flash app pops up the allow/deny dialog, I'm stuck because the buttons are unclickable. My adobe flash player version is 10,0,42,34. How can I fix this problem?
Edit: I'm using fluxbox. I'm using an acer notebook with a synaptics touchpad.. both the touchpad and the mouse can't interact with the dialog.
1. I didn't like the icon theme and changed it to Ubuntu Mono Light. But is there a way to get the Min/Max/Close buttons to how they are in Radiance when maximized, or is that dependant on something else?
2. Is there a way to disable the Unity dock, but not the Unity feature where the Min/Max/Close go into the command bar?
Just moved to Ubuntu 11.04 with unity and only have one problem...For most of my desktop needs I prefer to have the Unity Launcher up all the time (fullscreen apps don't cover it), and have set this option with ccsm.
However, when I watch mythtv, it is also under the launcher (and the top panel as well). How can I force mythtv to cover the launcher?
What I really need is a keyboard shortcut to hide the launcher, but the only shortcut is for "show launcher". (I guess the devs assumed everyone would want it hidden by default).
This, by the way is not my usual way for viewing mythtv. I have a projector attached to the desktop PC and it doesn't get a Unity Launcher by default (in Twinview), so no probs. However, occasionally I want to watch something on my computer screen, and that is when this issue arises.
The only problem I have is that I can not remove notification bar from the top and place it in bottom. I am getting the error in the enclosed screenshot. Is there any body know how to solve this problem. I have gone trhough all steps in the above link and only left is to set the notification area
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was used to use the network and battery icon in the notification are (next to the sound and date/time). Now the bluetooth, battery, network, sound and envelope icon are visible, but there is no responds clicking on it.Pressing the mute-button on the keyboard changes the icon in the notification area. Also connecting a wireless network changes the icon. But to change network is becoming impossible by clicking the icon (and I do not know an other way to change it).The only thing I can think of was whitelisting all programs:Code:sudo gsettings set com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist "['all']"This was the only change I made.EDIT: Icons of external programs do respond.
View 9 Replies View RelatedJust upgraded to Natty. After I've been logged on for a few minutes, the notification area (hope I have the right term) just freezes up. This means I can't access the drop-down menus for sound, wireless, battery, and tomboy notes. I've done a quick search and haven't found any helpful information.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was just wondering how do i restrict someone from entering other files. Like other peoples files & the system files. My users are in /home/. I am running ubuntu 10.10.So how do i restrict access to other folders. Because i dont want other people looking inside others files or messing up my linux files.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have the notification area displayed in my panel. Normally, it shows one speaker icon, one battery icon, and one wireless network icon. But now it occasionally shows 2 speakers and no wireless icon, or two batteries and no wireless icon. Sometimes rebooting fixes it. But it seems to be random. This used to work fine, and I can't figure out what I did to mess with it.

I created two EXT3 partitions (one for /boot and the other for /) and alinux swap partition after leaving 500 GB for my C drive on the HDD. I then booted into linux using the install ISO burned onto a CD. I can see the menu where I get the option to install/run Ubuntu and the option to install in text mode, but when I go ahead,I get the following errors Install Errors After these messages, the monitor goes blank and nothing happens.
On my Mac, when I press F2, I am able to take a screen shot of a selected area. Is it possible to assign a hot key to do the same thing on my Ubuntu 10.04 PC?

View 3 Replies View RelatedFresh install (10.04), only the packages that I thought I needed. nm-applet is running, but not appearing in the notification area of the panel.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've just tried using my bluetooth today and Karmic cannot detect it. The dongle is blinking so I'm pretty sure there's no defect. I have the standard bluetooth packages installed. I've also tried the Bluetooth Setup with the:
Code:sudo apt-get install bluez && sudo apt-get install bluez-utils
sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart, but somehow the bluetooth sign still would not appear on my Notification Area.
I've got a very annoying problem with my top bar and the notification area. The icons/applet's order is completely messed up. The icon's overlap, some do not show at all, and sometimes some do not load (seeing a black square instead). Most applet's can also be accesed through Applications or System, but especially the wireless app is necessary to be there. Perhaps there is a way to get to it via another way then the notification area, but then I dont know where . The problem isn't consistent; sometimes it's there, sometime's it's not.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have covergloobus installed and if I download something to my desktop sometimes it goes under covergloobus and obviously that means moving it around to then get it and then put covergloobus back.
It would be nice to set some kind of rule to not have items go there or have something like in KDE and their "desktop folder".
I am a naive user in ubuntu and firstly, I do not get a network icon on my notification area. Secondly, when I connect using pon dsl-provider, my connection stays for sometime but it doesn't remain for long. I have to reconnect and again the connection is shortlived...
View 4 Replies View Relatedi think installed Ubuntu 10 2 weeks ago and it was working as far as this problem is concerned and then recently stopped showing Skype and the internet connection thing that is two arrows when connected. Both items are supposed to be next to the sound icon. You can see the blank area in the attached pic. I also do not get the top bar and bottom bar of the desktop about every 2 boots. And why is it when i save to the desktop i have to go to home>desktop instead of straight looking at the desktop. Sorry this is all happening at once and maybe it is all related?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was so excited that finally I can get the newest version of Ubuntu installed on my computer. Yesterday I downloaded the iso file and emptied my F:/ disk, hoping I can install it this morning. Everything was perfect until I met 'swap area'. I thought it was just that the installing program needed some free space during the process. Storage hierarchy, caching, something like that. So I configured my E:/ disk as the 'swap area'.
Bad decision! After everything was done, I rebooted ubuntu, only finding that my E:/ no longer existed!!!! I couldn't believe my eyes, so I rebooted back to Win7. E:/ disk wasn't there any more! Now I have to accept the bitter truth. All my journals, photos, and documents are ruined. My point is that: if something like 'swap area' is not so common sense to everybody, why does it have to be there? And if it will format that disk, why aren't I noticed? Not so long ago, I heard some one claimed that the ubuntu10.10 installing process would be revolutionized, much more user-friendly. Well, this is not what I've expected.
i have checked, network manager is installed, just the problem is i cant see it in the notification area... ppl keep telling me to add it on the panel and it will show, well its not... all i see are 3 small dashes stacked on each other. The network manager is running
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu 10.10.
I installed the Mac OS X Leopard theme. I didn't really like it so I decided to uninstall it and went to the default theme.
Now, whenever I try to minimize an application to the system tray, the notification area doesn't show any icons.
For example, I am running Tixati and I have set it up to hide it in the system tray when clicking the close button. Before installing the Mac theme, I had the Tixati icon on the top panel, where I could hover the pointer in order to check the download rate, or right-click it in order to configure it, but now, no icon is shown. I have added a new Notification Area applet but there is nothing shown there.
in Compiz -> Enhanced Zoom Desktop..when i am printing, i dont see other words, because the zoom area moving by mouse pointer location, but it's dont move with me in the print.
View 2 Replies View Relatedhaven't seen this in years since I'm using Ubuntu, but might probably be just a single step to get it back and running.I have a notebook with Ubuntu 10.10 newly installed and since some days, there are no more icons in the notification area. Before it stopped working, I had to do a hard shutdown because the system hung. For now, i.e. when I go to a terminal and enter

I have a volume control program I am writing for oss. Everything works in the program but I would like window to appear above the notification area icon. Is there a way to do this? If not is it possible to have the window open at the mouse location so it looks like it is part of the notification icon?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to reinstall Ubuntu, problem is, I don't know if I need a new swap area to replace the old one or just check the old one to be formatted. Or do I just leave it as it is and after installation Ubuntu will make use of it? Couldn't decide if this should go in "Installation & Upgrades" or "General Help" since it's a bit of both.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy dad has an older netbook that I installed Ubuntu 10.10 to, but he complained that it was too clunky. So I did what any good son would do and installed GNOME and Ubuntu themes on top of the minimal version of Ubuntu 10.10.It does run much faster, but I have a small problem with the Notification Area: nm-applet IS running.Notification Area is added to my panel, and in view.I have two interfaces, one wired, one wireless, both function correctly (both manually configured with gedit)
Neither one of the aforementioned interfaces are being displayed in the Notification Area, and my dad is not familiar with Ubuntu or any of the commands, so this is really a must-have for him.
After upgrading to natty, the notification area applet is not displaying correctly the newly loaded icons. It only displays them as tiny dots. I have to remove it from panel, and add it again, in order to get correct display? Can anyone help me to resolve this issue?I use an fglrx card. The problem persist in both unity, and ubuntu classic
