I have set up a very basic apache server to host my own website (have not set up sql or database or php yet) and I am trying to find out how to fpt or copy my website. I am creating the site in windows and need to know how to transfer it to the server, preferably into the /var/www folder directly.

I would like to upload my website into the /var/www folder through SSH. I would like to upload a complete folder's worth.
OS: ubuntu10.04 LTS running on latest oracle virtualbox. This works: I have opened a ubuntu one account. And I can log into that account. But I have to do so by: clicking 'ubuntu one' in top bar, and click 'account' in prompt that appears. Shouldn't log in take place automatically? Being logged in I'm able to make new folders. And appearently able to enter them (they are empty I quess) If I try to upload a file clicking 'upload file' in ubuntu one. A prompt appears and I choose the file to upload and click 'continue'. The prompt says "uploading" but nothing happens. If I choose a document folder and click 'mouse click right'. And then click 'sync with ubuntu one'. It prompts that it syncs the folders. But nothing happens.

Me and 2 others are working on a website (Bob, Mike, and Joe). We made a group called developers and each of us are in the developers group. The Apache server runs as www-data. When we upload files, the file owner is the users name and the group is "developers".
/etc/group has the following

My apache ignores index files (index.php ,index.html ,index.htm , ...) and while these files exists in directory apache lists directory content!I mean http://localhost/test/ lists directory content instead of showing index.php!

I have tried using Gnomad2 to no avail and I have exhausted my self searching the online Ubuntu community forums and doing searches on search engines regarding this subject reading through countless article of users trying to get Linux system to recognize or mount their MTP devices.
My system does recognize and mount my MTP device (Creative Zen Micro) and the Music Players (RhythmBox, Banshee, Amarok, VLC, XBMC) all access and play the music without any problems. I just want to transfer or copy the music from my MTP device to my system.
I would like to change the permissions for a directory and all files inside the directory how do I do this? The website is located only on my local network so I am not worried about security. Also what would be the optimal permissions for running wordpress.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI pushed the browse button and selected the first picture, but I was unable to select all of the pictures.
This happened again on an email attempt to do the same thing.
In the gnome environment, I am able to select the first then hold down shift, and select the last pic and all the ones in between will be selected. I expected this behavior when selecting for upload, but it didn't happen. I had to select each one, one at a time and upload each one.
I tried making a folder to upload the whole folder and that would not select at all.
I have been plagued by this for some time. How many times do you need to run chown -R user:www-data or similar to your webroot directory.I have been searching via Google and this forum. I have yet to find a definite answer to handle uploading and creating new files usable by apache2.Scenarios can vary. Some folks put there webroot inside a /home directory. Some users leave the default location as /var/www.I have a two part question.. Why do I often read "Apache runs as user=www-data, therefore files need to be readable by such (www-data)", but the default install in Ubuntu includes an index.html with the following?

One day I clicked cancel and it has never come up again, when i start up the ubuntu one logo switches to updating folders for a bit and then it switches to the default but with a little red x on it. I haven't been able to get it to connect. I can place files into the folder on my computer but they don't show in my ubuntu one account folder also. Also I heard, that soon we'd be able to upload folders instead of file by file is this true?
View 1 Replies View RelatedFirefox grays out and doesn't unfreeze until the entire upload is complete.I can't do anything else on the internet while this is happening.This didn't bother me until now, because I need to upload some pretty high quality pictures to Flickr, and it takes about fifteen or twenty minutes to do so.I'd like if the pictures could simply upload in the background while I do other stuff, instead of completely freezing my internet usage in the process.I don't have a problem downloading files quietly in the background not even large files so why can't I upload files without freezing everything up? I need the apache server to display .vbs, .cs., vb., .sh, .pl., .c, .h, .cpp, etc, etc files in the browser. Whenever our users click on a script they get a download dialog instead of the script being displayed in the browser as plain/text. I have added:

When uploading files, it prompts "uploading". But never finish. And files do not get uploaded. To sync a folder on desktop and ubuntu one never works.
I am trying to setup my webserver and I am trying to make a website to run under suexec but somehow I cannot start my apache it directly fails and SELinux is giving me errors and don't really know what to do with it, it is giving me some command to type but not sure if this will make my server less secure. SELinux prevented httpd reading and writing access to http files. Ordinarily httpd is allowed full access to all files labeled with http file context. This machine has a tightened security policy with the httpd_unified turned off, this requires explicit labeling of all files. If a file is a cgi script it needs to be labeled with httpd_TYPE_script_exec_t in order to be executed. If it is read-only content, it needs to be labeled httpd_TYPE_content_t, it is writable content. it needs to be labeled httpd_TYPE_script_rw_t or httpd_TYPE_script_ra_t. You can use the chcon command to change these contexts. Please refer to the man page "man httpd_selinux" or FAQ [URL] "TYPE" refers to one of "sys", "user" or "staff" or potentially other script types.
Allowing Access:
Changing the "httpd_unified" boolean to true will allow this access: "setsebool
-P httpd_unified=1"
Fix Command:

Then I created the username "ulyaoth" with the group "ulyaoth" as I specified with my suexec, then I created all the directories as specified in my httpd.conf and "chown ulyaoth:ulyaoth (dirname)" them to the right group and username.
I've got several large files sitting in my linux hosted account that I need to upload to my S3 account. I dont want to download them first and then upload it into S3. Is there any way I can "upload" it via the linux command line environment? Or access it via a website working with lynx?

I am trying to write a shell script in order to automate the process of uploading a file onto an FTP server using the built in FTP commands in ubuntu server (lucid). In order to connect I can use the following:

I have Webmin installed on an Ubuntu server. I currently have a successful apache server running on port 80, however I want to create a virtual host on port 81. When I try I go to servers->Apache Webserver-> Create Virtual Host I change the port to 81 and the document root to /var/port81www then I click create. How ever when I goto 192.168.1.5:81 (local ip, I know I have to port forward but its not even working local) it does not work.

I can compile apache 2.2.15 just fine, but whenever I try to compile php 5.3.2 into my server, the first two steps work just fine but when I get to the make install part it shows the libphp5.so and it just stays there and I have to cancel the install because it won't finish.
View 5 Replies View Relatedjust switched our company from windows server to linux and everything is going good except we have 4 vpn connections though out the country coming to our server. All giving the client machines ip addresses of 192.168.x.x based on where they are located 192.168.1.x for the main location 192.168.2.x for a second location etc, and IIS could see the clients ip instead of the wan ip and was setup to block all ips except 192.168.x.x ip's and this worked great.
So i set up apache the same way, to allow only 192.168 ip's but i guess it doesn't work that way in apache for connections coming though vpn? 2 out of our 4 VPN connections are not static IP's, so the 2 that are I just add that ip to the allow list and that worked.But i don't think we should HAVE to get static ips for the other 2, that's one of the benefits of using VPN, especially if our old windows server didnt need it.Is there any way for apache to see the clients ip address for access or is there something somewhere else that needs changed for this?
I've got some strange looking requests in my access_log which I don't much like the look of. Can someone take a look and let me know if 1) it's possible for other people to use my server as a proxy, and 2) how I can stop them.

My Server is 8.04 (hardy) and Apache is 2.2.8. I have been receiving emails from Apache each time a new stable release is available, most of which say you should install them due to security issues. The current stable release of apache being offered is 2.2.17
Q1) Do you recommend I upgrade from Apache 2.2.8 to 2.2.17?
Q2) Does this come automatically with my regular updates via Update Manager once the Ubuntu community thinks its stable enough (it appears that it doesn't)?
Q3) What is the best way to install the update?
Q4) Any concerns about installing it into a live environment? I don't have a development platform to try it in first.
