Jul 27, 2011I've tried several times to create a Virtual Machine using KVM and installing Ubuntu Natty (using virt-manager).The problem is that each CD Install ISO I've downoaded appears to be corrupt... but it only appears to be! When I choose 'check cd for defects' before I am trying to install, every time a different error is reported... so I fear that the virtual CD drive does not work properly. (I am using IDE with the default settings...)Has anybody experienced similar problems? Can anyone point me to a hint or solution?btw... I've installed Windows 7 as a VM the same way. I did not experience any problems so far

When he gets hit with a borage of phone calls I need to have the call that are behind the others to go the the next extension. I need redundancy if one Internet connection goes down and have the another kick in or failover. How does one configure Trixbox to failover to the other Internet connection and can someone give me a list of carriers in the Washington D.C area. Can someone point me in the right direction?

When I try I go to servers->Apache Webserver-> Create Virtual Host I change the port to 81 and the document root to /var/port81www then I click create. How ever when I goto 192.168.1.5:81 (local ip, I know I have to port forward but its not even working local) it does not work.

Jan 21, 2010I don't know if I'm posting in the right box - I'm new to both Ubuntu and this forum so please bear with me. Thing is, I spent almost 2 days trying to find a web server that meets my likes. I tried like almost every well known web server, be it Apache, Lighttpd, Nginx, and Cherokee, one by one. For each I was successfully in getting PHP up and running, but was never able to configure the virtual hosts.
I'm 99.99% sure that I - for multiple times - followed correctly the online how-to's. Especially Cherokee, I did exactly the screencast (which is just 2 steps, as Cherokee has a GUI for virtual server setups). Strange enough, with each web server the virtual hosts thing never worked for me. I always received "Server not found" error. I tried with Firefox and Google Chrome. Currently I'm on an Ubuntu 9.10 (32bit) box - I reinstalled this one over the 64bit, to vain.
Don't know if it's a problem with my DNS, but I have another machine running Windows 7 with the same DHCP settings (means same DNS and IP range). Virtual hosts work fine there on an XAMPP installation.

Mar 30, 2010I have a project in school that the requirement is to show the proof of concept of a high availability virtual servers. the guest operating system for the test case will be a Windows variant and a Linux variant that if the main host that hosts both of this VMs fails, both VMs will be restarted on the backup host. Simple enough with VMware vSphere and citrix xenserver with essentials with their enterprise features, But I am not allowed to use a software that one will need to pay-for or is only a trial version, i need to use an open source solutions, and i am not allowed to use virtualbox.
the school has provided me 2 server class 64bit hardware with intel-vt support, i have my laptop for management tools and to also run a virtual appliance for a iscsi target (openfiler as a vm in virtualbox in my laptop).
I have figured that i will use KVM on a ubuntu server as my hypervisor but i cant find any how-to on how to implement a high availability setup that will run a windows variant as a guest. can some one give me a step by step on how to do this.
from my research it looks like i will need DRBD and heartbeat, but i dont know how to use them and if they are applicable in my needs. I wouldn't probably use DRBD since I have a sudo SAN with my iscsi target, so i can probably use open-iscsi.

Apr 30, 2010I upgraded karmic to lynx today and I'm stuck with some weird behaviour with one of my virtual hosts. The virtual hosts under /var/www/site work but my virtual host for DAVICAL which points to /usr/share/davical/htdocs/ doesn't.
Navigation to any html pages works but php files just show up blank!
Has there been a configuration change in lynx for virtual hosts outside of /var/www?

Aug 18, 2010I'm wondering if this is even possible before I start the learning curve with Ubuntu and apache virtual hosts.
I have a static external IP address that resolves to the various domain names I will be using. I have a web server inside my network with a private IP address and any http request to the firewall is forwarded to the webserver on the appropriate port. This setup works well when using the same web page/configuration for all of the domains.
Will it be possible to use named virtual hosts in this configuration, or will the NAT'ing interfere?

Oct 8, 2010I've accidentally removed (rm -r) the ubuntu-kvm folder that stores the virtual partitions of my VM. The VM itself is still running. The machine is still accessible over the net (it is a webserver) but since there is no more virtual storage I guess there is no way to regain its contents. Are there any steps I can do to regain the machine? I guess if I just reinstall the machine by means of vmbuilder all newly created discs will be more or less blank.

Feb 22, 2011I am trying to set up an Apache2 virtual host to test sites I make from my own computer.
I used this guide to set up my LAMP and vHost, The LAMP stack seems to be working great, but I run into some problems when I try to set up a vHost
As described in the guide I
1. made a new directory in my home folder /home/[myname]/www/test.dev to put my site in (it currently contains a simple index.html file as a test).
2. In /etc/apache2/sites-available I copied the file "default" and renamed it "test.dev"
3. I edited the content of "test.dev" to look like this:

4. I enabled the site using the command "sudo a2ensite test.dev". I then restarted apache "sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 reload".
5. I edited the hosts file: "sudo gedit /etc/hosts" to look like this:

6. I restarted apache "sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 reload".
Now if I enter "http://test.dev" in my firefox's adress bar I just get the apache2 "It works!" site. What is going wrong to cause firefox to show the "It works!" page rather then my own test site?

The DocumentRoot needs to be different for each host.

However, I am unable to find where to actually enable these hosts in the configs. The apache website says to put it in httpd.conf however that file is empty on my machine.
The existing default virtual hosts are in "/etc/apache2/sites-available/default" and "default-ssl"
The main config file is /etc/apache2/apache2.conf
I am running version 2.2.16 of apache
I need to use the same .htpasswd file for all the sites.
I have configured CNAMES on my domain for all of these hosts.

Apr 28, 2011I needed to create a virtual host for a php project I'm working on. Rather than using command line and text editors, I installed webmin to accomplish this and hopefully perform other server configuration in the future. When I created the virtual host and tried applying the changes Apache wouldn't re-start, and still doesn't restart after complete re-boot. It's getting hung up at the end of apache2.conf, which is trying to include /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default.
When I look at 000-default from a File Browser, it's a linked file to etc/apache2/sites-available/default I can open both the linked file and actual file in a text editor, and it looks fine. When I view the directory, /etc/apache2/sites-available from shell, the default file isn't visible. It seems this "invisibility" is probably related to the error, which is preventing start-up. Can anyone explain why the file would be visible from the Ubuntu File Browser GUI but not from the terminal, and how I can fix so apache can recognize this on start-up?

There is also an advice to enable it in the bios but I can't find anything like this actually. My motherboard is Asus M4A88TD-M EVO with quad-core AMD processor. IS there any trick to enable this feature somewhere in the system or it is a limitation of my hardware?

May 4, 2010Clean install of 10.04 Server 32 bit.Only services OpenSSH Server and Print Server.Machine boots and can be accessed through ssh.Virtual terminals (cntl-alt-1,2,3,4,... do not result in video to the monitor (no sync) or a display.If I type blind, I can log in, ssh back to my other machine, and create a file. So the virtual terminal is there and listening to the keyboard and running, just not creating a display.
This machine has been working fine with 08.10 for quite time up until yesterday, so I don't believe it is a hardware problem.Any ideas why the video on the virtual terminals would not work?
