Ubuntu Servers :: MythTV (master Backend) 0.24.1 On 10.04?
Aug 12, 2011
I had a dedicated HTPC box running Mythbuntu 11.04 (MythTV 0.24.1, I believe) that was both a master backend and frontend. I was also running a separate box (server 10.04) as a file server, print server, etc. Very recently I decided to try to migrate the backend duties and database from the HTPC box to the server so that I only need to have one machine running 24/7. So, on the server, I installed mythtv-backend-master from the repository, which for 10.04 is version 0.23.0+fixes. You might have seen this one coming... when I try to import the database from the Mythbuntu box into the server's MythTV installation, I get an error message saying the database schema (1264) is newer than expected (1254).
So, I'm wondering about my options at this point. Is it reasonable to install the same version of MythTV on the server? What would be the best way of going about that?
Is there a way to easily revert the database schema to the earlier version that's required?
Will I just need to start over with a new database? (Hopefully not this one.)
I'm trying to setup Mythbuntu on a computer connected to a TV. I have bought an USB DVB-T Receiver, named WandTV. According to LinuxTV; WandTV, aka Shenzhen Forward Video EzTV859, is supported in the Linux kernel.
When I try to setup the mythTV backend I'm being asked of what card type I have. I guess the answer to that is "DVB DTV capture card (v3.x)", but no matter what I choose, it can't find any devices.
I'm pretty sure /dev/hidraw0 is the receiver, can I use that to setup the backend?
I want to install GTK+. I see there are also numerous dependencies, which i've been slowly tackling, and the Cairo package has been particularly difficult. It claims the following upon ./configure --prefix=/usr configure: WARNING: Could not find libpng in the pkg-config search path checking whether cairo's PNG backend could be enabled... no configure: error: requested PNG backend could not be enabled I've done some searching and found that libpng.pc is in my /usr/lib/pkgconfig/ directory and that the following commands don't do the trick:
I used both pound and nginx as load balancers. With pound I had issues with SSL websites so I moved to nginx. With nginx I have the problem that it does not load balance equally between the backend servers.
I remember hearing something about another load balancing web server but I forgot its name.
Does anyone know other alternatives to nginx/pound?
i installed yumex:yum -y install yumex, when i start yumex it came with this error:fatal error:backend-not-running backend not running as expected (yumex will close) how can i solve it?
I'm trying to setup a Samba network share with a Fedora Directory Server backend. This will be used primarily for Windows users to authenticate before accessing the share. I am using Fedora Core 10 and have all of the latest updates installed. When I try to connect from a Windows machine, I am prompted for a username and password. I enter the username and password of the account I created in Fedora Directory Server in OU=People. The credentials are rejected. At the same time in the log file I see this:
[2009/02/24 16:50:16, 3] auth/auth_sam.c:check_sam_security(282) check_sam_security: Couldn't find user 'Administrator' in passdb. [2009/02/24 16:50:16, 2] auth/auth.c:check_ntlm_password(318) check_ntlm_password: Authentication for user [Administrator] -> [Administrator] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER
Administrator is the user I created in Fedora Directory Server. If I perform an ldapsearch it will find the user as uid: Administrator so I know it is able to be looked up in FDS. But I'm guessing that's not the problem.
I am using ubuntu server 9.04 version and trying to configure a primary master DNS on my server as followed the ubuntu official documentation [URL]. The files named.conf.local, db.example.com & db.192 are almost same as the documentation. And I can restart DNS. But when I followed the troublshooting page to ping example.com
thomas@UServer:~$ ping -c 4 example.com PING example.com (127.0.0.1) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from localhost (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.047 ms 64 bytes from localhost (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.067 ms 64 bytes from localhost (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=3 ttl=64 time=0.058 ms 64 bytes from localhost (127.0.0.1): icmp_seq=4 ttl=64 time=0.061 ms
I'm managing a residential network. Each flat is its own subnet, and can only communicate with the other flats through a router (i.e. no broadcast). 95% of these 300 subnets only contains windows computers (from lambda users).
My final goal is to be able to browse the entire network from any computer.
I set up a samba server acting as a wins server, and every computer is aware of it because it is registered in the dhcp. So name resolution is working fine for everyone.
The same samba server is set to be the "Domain master browser":
workgroup = WORKGROUP wins support = yes prefered master = yes local master = yes domain master = yes os level = 65
When I browse the network (using "net view" or "browstat view"), I can only see the servers which are in the same subnet as the domain master browser.
Now, when in a subnet the computers arrange themselves to find a "local master browser", the only visible computers are the one in that subnet.
What I don't understand is why all the local masters don't synchronize their lists with the domain master.
So, to sum up, every subnet get the following behaviour:
-if a local master is elected, the only visible computers are the one in the same subnet.
-if no local master is elected, the only visible computers are the one in the subnet of the domain master.
-if I add another samba, configured as a local master winning all elections, then the magic is working and the lists are synchronized.
What is expected: -every computer can see all the computer from all the subnets.
I have two computers (one tower, one laptop). On both the computers, I have apache & PHP & mysql running, so i can program/script anywhere I like. With a simple sync'ing program, the PHP scripts are synced between the PC's, thought the databases arent. Therefor I'm looking for a method to sync (replicate) the databases between the PC's. thought after setting up some configuration, i'm stuck... now with how to, but what to
Option 1) Multi-master replication between the PC and the laptop. With this setup, the database can ONLY sync once both the devices are turned on. Also it can only sync if they are turned on on my LAN, since they do not have an external static IP address. if I turn on both PC's on my LAN, with static IP's (from the DHCP server), this option will work. Thought, I basically never have both pc's turned on in my own home... cuz i can use only one at the time anyway. So I was thinking of another setup
Option 2) Multi-master replication with: online Server, PC and Laptop. The server basically contains the most up to date database. for example, the laptop updates the server and the server can update the PC later, once the PC is turned on. Also the other way around, the PC can update the server which can than update the Laptop.
There is, if i'm correct, only one problem: the only multi master replications setups I found, use a circulair setup... (1 updates 2, 2 updates 3, 3 updates 1) What I need is to have the PC update the server, but ALSO have the server update the PC (same for the laptop)
than there is another (little) problem: the PC and laptop cannot be reached from behind the modem, nor do they have a static IP. My question: Is it possible to sync the server with the laptop (that has no static IP), the laptop with the server (that has a static IP), and the same for the PC
I am attempting to setup an Ubuntu server as a secondary DNS server. It seems whenever it tries to dump the master file the system log shows Permission denied.let me know if more information is needed.NOTE: where it says example.com I have simply removed my actual Domain name.

I need to perform instant filecopy between a pair of servers. Its loosely based on a master slave setup as we have ucarp floating a virtual IP between the two. services are on both boxes (tftp, apache). I'm happy with that, I now need a way to instantly sync files from set directories, as we could see problems if files have changed should the system fail over without being in sync
I know I could cron *1 but I don't want it running EVERY minute, in any case, if the change was within the last minute, then it wouldn't have the change anyway. I think it can be done with rsync daemons on box boxes, but I can't find a guide to to this. ATM the slave has been setup to accept rsync from the master, so I just need the config to have all changes on the master instantly replicated.
Faced with disk-bound issues on a FTP server with high traffic. Would like to set up multiple FTP server nodes with dedicated storage for each node where all FTP access is managed by a master FTP server. So, a user would FTP to a single externally visible IP address for the master FTP server and then get routed to the appropriate FTP node. Are the mutiple FTP nodes required or is there a better way of doing this? Perhaps only one FTP server is required and then each node would serve as a separate file server
I have a load balancer with 2 web servers behind it. The web servers rsync with cloud storage to update their apache directories 1 time every hour. Apache is just running php pages that pull/push data to a DB so they dont need to be updated that often. However I need to figure out how to implement a Master/Master MySQL setup to have my web servers point to for the PHP stuff. I need to implement it without having a single point of failure. The Load balancers are useless for failover as they only detect availability based on Ping request. So putting a master/master setup behind a Load Balancer is out. what is the best way to setup the master/master mysql in a HA setup without the use of a load balancer provided by the host?
Hwhen I try to update my cache in Wubi 10.1,it starts giving me a message that "waiting for jockey-backend to exit" and nothing continues,I dont know what is it all about and how to solve it?
I've just installed the Netbook Edition of Lucid on my MacBook, and it works great, with two issues: First, each time I start, the computer is extraordinarily laggy (pretty much unusable), until I run System Testing for video, and go through the whole process. Then it seems to work great. Also, I'm having a 100% CPU issue, which switches between my two CPUs. There was nothing under "my processes" that showed any kind of heavy use. But, under "all processes" was something called Backend. I killed the process and now everything seems to be working just fine.
Here is my learning curve or what I would like to try. 1. Install Ubuntu on computer with following hardware:ASUS M3A7-EM AM2+ CPU, looking for a 45w one 780G/SB700, if the onboard video gives me grief I will install a nVidia 2gb DDR2 RAM 320gb or 500gb system drive, nothing smaller in the cupboard.
2. I want to install Mybuntu backend on this computer as part of a media sharing system. I have several PVR cards and it will be trial and error to see what works. I have a 1.5tb drive for media storage.
3.I have several old laptops to experiment with as frontends, I also want to install Mythbuntu and Kubuntu on one these to compare KDE and Gnome. At least two of the laptops have wireless so it will be easy to network.
" p, li { white-space: pre-wrap; }Cannot get the exclusive lock on the packaging backend. Please close any other legacy packaging tools that may be open." I cannot update anything, and I haven't opened another package downloader. The only one open is KpackageKit. Please help, is this a big or have a I got a virus or something? I don't know what information is needed so if I need to expand tell me what I need to retrieve and ill post it.I'm not good with Kubuntu problems.
I am new to Debian Wheezy and I can't install anything. Ever time I try to install a .deb file I get the message saying that installation is not supported by backend. Also I'm unable to install from the terminal; it always says something like "path not found" or "file doesn't exist" (I'm on my phone so I don't have an exact error detail). Everything I've read tells me to install something to fix the problem but I can't install them due to the same error.
In Karmic's Amarok 2.2, when you pause and then play, the sound usually stutters a few times before it starts playing smoothly. I originally thought this was a pulseaudio issue, as stuttering problems have been reported with pulse, but that wouldn't explain why sound is fine in mplayer, audacious, vlc, dragon player, and virtualbox. Only amarok has this problem. I found the cause of the problem: phonon-backend-xine. These steps will get rid of the stuttering problem:
1. Install phonon-backend-mplayer. You can get it from Rog131's PPA: [URL]
2. In Multimedia and Sound Configuration, which you can reach through amarok's Playback settings, on the Backend tab, click the arrows to move mplayer up above xine.
3. Quit and restart amarok.
There are some tradeoffs for good sound. Amarok seems to have some bugs when the sound backend is not xine, and bookmarks and OSD are broken when this backend is playing the sound. When you quit Amarok, it can't bookmark your place so it doesn't restart from where you last were, and after the track changes once, the OSD when you hover over the tray icon only says "Amarok - No track playing." You have to open Amarok to find that info. Are there any settings I can access for phonon-backend-xine that could fix the stuttering issue? The problems with the mplayer backend are minor compared with xine's bad sound, but I would like nice sound, OSD, and bookmarking.
I have a system that has an intermittent issue with copying files. Below is the error that occurs. Error while copying "<filename>" There was an error coping the file into network:/// Operation not support by backend
The user has Ubuntu 8.04. They are using the Nautilus window to copy files (drag and drop) from a CD/DVD or USB device. The directory they are copying onto is a RAID0 device with approximately 2T of space, and more than enough space to take the files. The permissions for the drive and folders are set to the user.
This occurs randomly and is very frustrating. We cannot duplicate it and when it does occur, it will happen once, then work fine. I've been checking forums and help files all over, but find nothing similar. The only stuff I find is if it's a new install and the permissions haven't been set correctly. Even a confirmation that someone else has seen this before.
After overcomming a lot of difficulties, my MythTV (Via Epia 10000EG with Hauppauge PVR 500 card) worked with Mythbuntu 9.04. Last year it crashed and I had no time to spare to rebuild it.
Last couple of weeks I had more time and downloaded and tried to install Mythbuntu 10.10. Everything seems to be installed ok, but I get no picture in MythTV when I select "Watch TV" and no picture when I try to record something. When watching TV, the message "Please wait" appears for appr. 5 secs and then the system returns to the menu.
I installed Mythbuntu 10.10 and am using the provided IVTV drivers.
Dmesg and lspci give no errors, every seems to be in order, IVTV drivers are loaded, initialized and errorfree. Cat /dev/video0 gives me static in MPLAYER. The MythTV backendlog doesn't even give a message, the frontend log just says there is no picture...
There seems to be an error between the back and frontend. I checked the settings in capturecards, TV sources, channel edits, etc, etc, but I can't find it.
I am trying to install gnome-mplayer to see if I update it, for he not catching more when I play the videos, and it is asking me to have at least one "backend "to compile Pango. I do not understand this output. Have you tried installing the source Cairo.ttf but solves nothing. Cairo is installed as described but do not understand this output.

Code: Failed to initialize Failed to initialize packaging backend This may occur if other packaging tools are being used simultaneously. under more details i get:

Since Livna went down, I've been having having problems with KPackagekit. I disabled the Libna repo by setting enabled=0 in /etc/yum.repos.d/livna.repo, and have been able to update with Yum.KPackageKit fails on me now with the message "Failed to initialize backend. This may occur if other packaging tools are used simultaneously."Then it fails to finish, which causes me to reboot before I can use Yum successfully.Under Settings, I see no indication that it knows where the repositories are, and no way to add repos.
in KDE:Factory:Desktop you can find a new version of kupdateapplet. In the changes you can find the following:
- dropped zypp plugin (bnc: 590192) - V 0.9.11
I have no access to 590192 in bugzilla, so can anybody tell me why the only real working backend is dropped? The PackageKit-Backend is not showing the updates from 3rd-party-repositories (packman or obs). Is there any possibility to get back the working 0.9.10?
