Ubuntu :: Partition Table Was Deleted / Cant Restore?

I was working on creating a partition on a new hard drive I was planning on using for storage. I wasn't paying attention and chose to delete the partition on my master. I am running a dual boot with Vista and Ubuntu. When I rebooted It will only go to the Grub> prompt. Ive ran TestDisk and though that I had corrected the problem but it didnt. After running TestDisk again here is what It came up with.

After writing the table above I rebooted. Windows prompted me for my restore disk. I rebooted to the live cd again and ran Fdisk.

I was messing around with the windows 7 install and wiped a valuable partition on a drive, I ripped the sata cable out afterwards... is there a way to reconstruct the table?

I got swap space full error and the ubuntu version of "blue screen of death". I used Disk Utilities to delete a 2.1GB unused partition. When I tried to create a swap space partition (with Disk Utilities) it failed. In the mean time ubuntu did some security updates. When I tried to create again Disk Uilities did not complain but only created a small ~ 500 kB partition. I deleted that and reboot and got "unknown filesystem grub rescue>". I booted from a USB key successfully. Now Disk Utilities and File Browser can see all the partitions and files on the hard drive, but GParted thinks the entire hard drive is unallocated. I vaguely remember that there are two partition table on the hard drive. It may be that one of them was deleted (when I removed the ~ 500 kB partition with Disk Utilities earlier maybe?). It seems at least the other partition table is still intact since Disk Utilities and File Browser can still see all the partitions and files. Is it possible to restore the deleted or damaged partition table and make the hard drive bootable again?

I erased my partition table. Can anyone recommend a good method of reconstructing it? And if this is impossible, can anyone recommend a good method of data recovery? I had an ntfs partition with windows 7 and a larger ext3 partition that ran Debian.
I'm running Test-disk on the SystemRescueCD at the moment (cross your fingers).

I have searched and didnt find a situation like mine so i thought id ask. i have a dual boot setup on my hp pavillion windows vista /dev/sda1 and backtrack linux 3,while trying to install backtrack 4 (which is ubuntu based) i deleted the former partitons for bt3. im not quite sure what i clicked but using the ubiquity installer it deleted my partition table so now my entire drive is listed as unallocated space. i have some very important files on my windows partition other wise i would just format and start over. how can i restore the partition table and boot to windows to atleast grab the important stuff. the drive hasnt been formatted so the info is still there i just cant get to it anyone have any ideas?

what I did was: - have NTFS (450GB + 4GB linux-swap + 44GB ext3 with ubuntu 10.10 upgraded from ubuntu 10.4). Ntfs partition contains data only, no windows.
- either with partition magic or paragon I tried to resize the NTFS and since then parted doesn't like my partitions anymore, but Ubuntu boots and works just fine..
- I took the output from fdisk -l and decided to remove the swap partition - ubuntu won't boot saying it needs the swap (although it was never mounted and i deleted the swap while ubuntu was active)
I have the following output from fdisk -l:
Disk /dev/sda: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
[Code].....
**NOTE: Since the partitions are not on cylinder boundaries, using parted to recreate the partition table may not be good enough.. I don't have a backup of the partition table.

I was trying to remove the physical volume from an old drive. So I opened gparted and told it to rewrite the partition table. The only problem is I targeted the wrong volume, I wiped the partition table on my 4tb raid5 array This 4tb array has everything! All my movies, tv shows, music. The only things I have backup up off site are my smaller files like documents. I was about to lose my whole media collection.
I did some research and found a solution that I will post here in the hopes that someone will google "I deleted the partition table on my lvm" and be find the solution.You should find in your filesystem a /etc/lvm/backup folder. LVM puts a copy of the crucial lvm information there every time you change the the volume group.
In this folder you will find a file for each volume group. In this file you will find the uuid for all of the physical volumes that make up that group.The first step is to recreate each physical volume with their original uuids. In my case I had only 1 physical volume, which was my raid5 array. My recreation command looked like this:
pvcreate --uuid cLrY02-zrVi-D0Vi-cIPB-6fF5-ed0c-XFF0os /dev/md0
Now I have a physical volume with the same uuid it had before. It is essential that you correctly match up the uuids with the correct physical deviecs.The recreated pv is empty, the volume group needs to be recovered. This is done by using a special tool and the backup file. For me the command looked like this:
vgcfgrestore --file /etc/lvm/backup/raid5 raid5
This tells it to recreate the volume group using the information in the backup file. The backup files looks for the uuid of the PV, which now matches the correct volume. The coordinates in the backup file match up to the data on the array an suddenly everything is back!
When I deleted my LVM partition table I did not damage any of the actual volumes on the volume group, I just wiped out the table of contents. The backup file had the information needed to rewrite this table of contents.

After defragmentation of NTFS partition (With XP installation) cant'boot linux So, rub statrts with boot menu after selecting linux it tries to load linux but prints out some messages again and again (I do not remember contetn of messages) And these messages are circulating

my /dev/sdb was a truecrypt partition that was mounted when I accidentally deleted the partition in gparted (instead of sdc, stupid). I'm pretty sure I haven't overwritten anything since then, but I'm not sure how to go about recovering this one. To confound the problem, the only way I can install stuff to my ubunut machine is by downloading on a windows machine and transferring by memory stick.

I was putting the cover back on my Antec p180b, and I guess it got stuck and gave it a hard bump (pretty much broke the cover). As a result, one of my hard drives, a Seagate Barracuda ST3750640AS, got messed up or something. All the other hard drives are fine. It's in an LVM with another hard drive, so now I can't boot up into my computer. So I booted into the installation CD:

This led me to believe the partition was messed up. So I ran cfdisk, and it said something about a missing partition table or something. Additionally, instead of showing the single partition on it, it displays, from my recollection, Pri*Log. To my knowledge, this is the only problem with the hard drive. So now I need to either somehow create or restore the partition table without overwriting the data. Or get a new hard drive, and some how recover the data (LVM, partitions, and all).

I tried to install Ubuntu next to XP. After restart - no XP and no Ubuntu. Something wrong with loader I guess, I see command line prompt (of the loader I guess).
So I restarted from liveCD. But no "Repair Install" option like in XP CD. So, I deleted partition to install again on top of old, then learned a loader possibly could be fixed.
So, the problem is: testdisk cannot restore partition I deleted. I didn't write on disk anything. May be swap space after couple reloads from liveCD corrupted it?
It complains "The harddisk (...) seems to small!", it sees some other partitions and doesn't see what Gparted and Disk Utility.
Let me know the best approach to get back XP running (having Ubuntu would be good too).

Now the partitions shown as deleted because of overlapping. The partition to be recovered is still not in the list.
Anyway, my final goal is to get WinXP back and if possible, install Ubuntu. It's nice that installer still sees the XP. Too bad the loader doesn't. how to get it done.
Unlike during installation of XP, ubuntu doesn't offer to utilize the deleted partition. Is it going to stay empty/unallocated? Forget the empty space, will I get XP running if I continue and install?

after i figured out what i did i stoped the installation but was to late ... i answered yes at write partition table changes on disk question
i tried win7 automate recovery tool from dvd and manual install of mbr with no successful result

I have 3 harddisks, 1 for system and 2 for data.
To manage it more easy, I tied 2 harddisk in LVM. And I made an logical volume. It used ext4 for it's filesystem.
Today, I wanted to format and reinstall the system. So I booted the system using Ubuntu CD. But managing the partition, I accidently delete the logical volume. Because backup(/etc/lvm) was in itself, I couldn't restore the old config. I just create new logical volume.
As I expected, I couldn't mount it correctly. Mount said that "Mount: Mouting failed A on B! Invalid argument!"
I must recover it, because it has a lot of import data. What should I do?

I have a Laptop where I installed both Fedora 11 and windows 7 dual boot.
While I was upgrading Fedora 11 to Fedora 14 using preupgrade, I tried to edit /boot/grub/menu.lst file to make an option to continue upgrading the system after rebooting.
Accidentally, I deleted the file content and I couldn't restore it
I knew then that I'll face a problem when I reboot the system, and I faced it >> the grub selection menu disappeared , and only the line (grub> ) appeared when I reboot the system.

But when I rebooted , nothing changed and the same (grub> ) appeared again.
2- I used the instructions in the PDF attached, but unfortunately nothing changed.
I think that I have to rewrite the menu.lst and grub.cnf files but I'm not expert and I don't know exactly what was there (locations , commands , etc. )

By naming one of my folders wrong I thought I don't need it anymore and pressed delete button while holding shift. Is there any way I could get that folder back?
