Ubuntu :: Package Broken - Cannot Install Open Synaptic
May 19, 2011
I attempted to install openemr which was taking its sweet time to install it was most of the way through but I had to leave so I left my computer running. Computer when I came back was asleep I started back up and tried installing something from software manager and I got this message from it:
E: I wasn't able to locate file for the openemr package. This might mean you need to manually fix this package.: I tried fixing from synaptic but even synaptic is complaining.
I'm fairly a newbe. Synaptic tells me I have a broken package: kdebase runtime It tells when repairing:
E: /var/cache/apt/archives/kdebase-runtime_4%3a4.2.2-0ubuntu1.1_amd64.deb: poging tot overschrijven van `/usr/lib/kde4/libexec/kdesu', wat ook in pakket kdesudo zit in english Try to overwrite what also in the package kdesudo I can not repair it. Now I can not update anything.
I forced the install of graph-tool package [URL]. Now it is of course tagged as broken, so update manager wont do anything. But I want to accept it, I know it is not really broken. (In fact, graph-tool_xxx.deb asks for libcgal4. squeeze only has libcgal5, so I am betting this is not an issue, as far as graph-tool is concerned.)
I'm having a problem where I can't open Synaptic Package Manager. The error message I get is this:
E: Malformed line 57 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse) E: The list of sources could not be read. Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
Here's my sources.list:
# deb cdrom:[Kubuntu 9.10 _Karmic Koala_ - Release i386 (20091028.5)]/ karmic main restricted # See http://help.ubuntu.com/community/UpgradeNotes for how to upgrade to # newer versions of the distribution. [Code]...
I tried to install Redshift's PPA then an error occur, after that , my software center is not working, after i click the ubuntu software centre, nothing's happening..and also i cannot open synaptic package manager. But there is an error coming out code...
I need some assistance on getting Synaptic Package Manager to start correctly. I can start it from the command line without any errors. When I try to use the shortcut under the /System/Administration menu it ask for the password but nothing ever opens up nor is there an error. My source list is fine. I have ran "sudo apt-get update".
I am unable to open my newly installed ubuntu 9.10 (karmic-koala) asv it is showing some error message which is as follows:
E: Type 'n' is not known on line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/bisigi-ppa-karmic.list E: The list of sources could not be read. Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
If anyone has a remedy for this, i will open my Synaptic Package manager.
I opend terminal and typed the command.. sudo apt-get install torcs While downloading was in process I accidentally closed the terminal clicking X on the windows. I cant open synaptic Package manger when I try to open it says: "This usually means that another package management application (like apt-get or aptitude) is already running. Please close that application first". How can I close that apt-get application?
I want to install CmapTools in my desktop, which runs v.10.04. I have downloaded the .bin file from their site.Is there a way to install it using Synaptic Package Manager?
E: Malformed line 59 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse) E: The list of sources could not be read. Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
these are are errors i got when i try to open synaptic package manager! this is the list:
When I try to open SPM I enter my password and I get this message: Unable to get exclusive lock. This usually means that another package management application (like apt-get or aptitude) is already running. Please close that application first.
I don't understand because I will have no other program running and I make sure of it.
Then when I try playing mp4 with video player I get this message: The required software to play this file is not installed. You need to install suitable plugins to play media files. Do you want to search for a plugin that supports the selected file?
The search will also include software which is not officially supported.
So I happily click search, it finds the required software and asks if i want to install, I click to install, put in my password, but nothing ever gets installed. It's just idle. I'm using Ubuntu 11.04
while trying to open synaptic package manager i get the following errer "E: The package clamav-daemon needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it. E: Internal error opening cache (1). Please report."
I was having a problem with a fresh 11.04 install and the VPN software I use for work. I found the fix was to upgrade the software, so I downloaded an RPM, converted it to .deb and installed it via dpkg. The install worked and the VPN software now works, but Package Manager says I have a broken package and wants to 'upgrade' to the older broken one. How can I fix this without breaking my VPN SW again?
In a moment of temporary insanity I tried to install Backuppc using the synaptic package manager, but started to panic when the installer tried to set up an Apache web server on my PC (which I do not want). At that point I tried to cancel the installation, but got an error message. I then marked the package for complete removal in the package manager, but every time I click the apply I get an error message, "E: backuppc: subprocess pre-removal script returned error exit status 2" and the package, which did not install correctly in the first place, refuses to go. When I ran the update manager today, to install the latest updates, the manager tried to continue with the Apache installation stage of the Backuppc installation. How do I get rid of it?
Every time when I click on reload button in synaptic package manager I get these messages:
W: Failed to fetch http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/...ty/Release.gpg Could not resolve '1@192.168.0.4'
my internet connection has http proxy with address 192.168.0.4 and port no. 3128. every time when i click on reload button in synaptic package manager i get a lot of above messages. btw i am using ubuntu 9.04.
i downloaded packages of java and amsn but i cant see them in the synaptic package manager.when i search them i cant find and when i click file--> add downloaded packages ,it doesnt take this packages.
Whenever I try to install a program by Synaptic Package Manager, it downloads packages but it doesn't install those. It tries to connect to downloads.openwrt.org but unables to connect because of connection time out. I have attached a screenshot of it.
I tried to install gstreamer through Rhythmbox but only got a "Fix broken packages first" error message. I tried to fix the broken packages in the Synaptic Package Manager but it said there were none to be fixed. I tried to install the gstreamer stuff from Synaptic Package Manager and got this message
Quote: gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg: Depends: libavcodec52 (>=3:0.svn20090303-1) but it is not installable or libavcodec-extra-52 but it is not going to be installed Depends: libavformat52 (>=3:0.svn20090303-1) but it is not installable or libavformat-extra-52 but it is not going to be installed
I then tried to install libavformat-extra-52 and got this message
Quote: libavcodec-extra-52: Depends: libgsm1 (>=1.0.13) but it is not installable Depends: libschroedinger-1.0-0 (>=1.0.0) but it is not installable I couldn't find either of the packages contained in the last message.
Ubuntu 10.01 Lucid I had a few problems with applications failing to install properly with Synaptic Package Manager which resulted in a slew of launchers in my Applications > Other folder which all delivered error messages. These all had some kind of grey screen icon. I deleted them after uninstalling the applications which failed to install (wine 1.2, wine-gecko 1.2, then later wine 1.0, Wine-gecko 1.0, and winetricks.) I didn't notice that some non-wine applications also were given the grey-screen icon, and accidentally deleted "Archive Mounter." I know that I only deleted the launcher not the application, but don't know how to re-create the launcher in the Applications menu. Would someone...
1 - Right-click on the Applications panel, 2 - Select Edit Menus 3 - Find "Archive Mounter" (probably in "Other" folder) 4 - Select Properties for the launcher, look at the Properties sheet and tell me what the Archive Mounter command is, so I can re-create the launcher manually? And if you could, the path to the icon too
when I try to apt-get upgrade system or install a new package in synaptic or terminal, I see this:
Code: dpkg: ../../../lib/dpkg/dump.c:250: w_status: Assertion `pigp->trigpend_head' failed. E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg exited unexpectedly So, before I have a problem - Synaptic opened, told that /var/lib/dpkg/status don't exist, in the web I read that sudo cp /var/lib/dpkg/status-old /var/lib/dpkg/
On my new installation of 10.04 on a Toshiba A30, I'm trying to install EMC2, using an installer file downloaded from linuxcnc.org. At the end of the process, I get the error message below after trying to fix the broken package with package manager.
E:/var/cache/apt/archives/rtai-modules-2.6.32-122-rtai_3.8.1-linuxcnc1_i386.deb: trying to overwrite '/etc/udev/rules.d/99-rtai.rules', which is also in package rtai-modules-2.6.24-16-rtai 0
get past this problem ?
Is it as simple as removing the rtai-modules-2.6.24-16-rtai 0 package ? Do I need this one ? Is it replaced by the newer one, the rtai-modules-2.6.32-122-rtai_3.8.1 ?
I have a problem when installing this package through synaptic package manager. this is :
libpng12-dev the error is: W: Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/po...tu2.1_i386.deb 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.92.167 80] my distribution is ubuntu 10.4.
Is the ubuntu keyserver broken? I am trying to install a package and every time I try to install the key I get a time out error.
apt-update give me Code: W: GPG error: [URL karmic Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 932062C9CD30EE56
Then if I try to install the key I get this? Code: sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys CD30EE56 Executing: gpg --ignore-time-conflict --no-options --no-default-keyring --secret-keyring /etc/apt/secring.gpg --trustdb-name /etc/apt/trustdb.gpg --keyring /etc/apt/trusted.gpg --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys CD30EE56 gpg: requesting key CD30EE56 from hkp server keyserver.ubuntu.com gpg: keyserver timed out gpg: keyserver receive failed: keyserver error
Can I tell ubuntu not to bother with the key. I know the package is good and safe to install. I should be the one to judge if its ok to install not ubuntu.
