Fedora :: Folding At Home - Home To Install As A Service?

Mar 7, 2011

I am running Folding with the multi-core High performance client and would like to set this to be a service rather than have to run it by hand, so to speak, when the machine is booted.

How do I go about setting a service up for this.

Ubuntu :: Folding@home Crashes Computer?

Sep 1, 2011

As the title says, running folding@home always crashes Ubuntu when it gets to working the steps. This occurs when using the smp flag on the client. I tried removing smp and it worked, however it is slow and i can't take advantage of all 4 of my cores. My hardware specs are in my sig. At first i though it could be the memory, but after running memtest i get no errors. This does not occur on windows vista, however that is 32bit not 64bit

Fedora :: Install The Folding@Home Client On X64 14 Box?

Mar 24, 2011

I am trying to install the Folding@Home client on my x64 fedora 14 box. I am used to in ubuntu where all one would do was install the package "origami" and you just send 2 commands after to set name/team and the initial start and that was all.

such package doesn't exist for fedora, or so it seems.

is there such a package in the fedora world? if not, how do i go about setting it so it is installed and automatically runs upon startup?

Ubuntu :: /home Fails To Mount?

May 12, 2011

So a few hours ago I opened up GPartEd from a live CD, and one of my operations was moving the /home partition up a little. In the process, it was changed from /dev/sda8 to /dev/sda7. Well upon the next boot, /home failed to mount. I edited /etc/fstab (and apparantly DropBox had just commented out the line that mounts /home so I have NO IDEA how /home was being mounted before) and still no dice. So every time I boot, I have to go to manual recovery and type mount /home before I can boot.

Is there some way I can mount /home without making a "git 'er done" script?

On a side note, Google Chrome has refused to open since the partition editing.

Oh, and, in case it is helpful, here's the contents of /etc/fstab:

Quote:

# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
proc /proc proc nodev,noexec,nosuid 0 0

I turned my home PC running Ubuntu 10.04 into a server, and so i am so lost, after reading like a 10-20 different guides and/or official docs, I am totally lost.

All I wanted was to create a custom 404 error page...i read about how people edited .htaccess files to customize error pages, i tried and failed also, editing apache2.conf, I got lost and i dont wanna mess up everything and also, how you're supposed to not touch either of those as its not how it should be done and instead you need to edit httpd.conf and i did and FAILED! again...

Also how do I make it so that I can make subdomain(s) on my site? and wth is a name server and where do I get one?

Ubuntu :: Desktop Fails To Load Past Loggin / Get It To Work?

Jul 14, 2010

I'm not entirely sure if this is where this goes, but problems occurred after messing around with desktop interface areas

Basically after logging in my screen turns black and then seems to fail out back to the log in screen. No error message, nothing. log in -> black screen -> log in

Ive tried to boot in fail safe gnome with exact same result.

Problems started after these two actions

1) was trying to get compiz to handle the desktop, so I disabled "show desktop" through Nautilus ( I re-enabled before logging off however)

2) was stupid and tired and accidentally uninstalled libglib2.0-0, libglib2.0-data, and several other packages through the software center interface. Ive re installed these through root access but I must be missing some files because it still fails to start

Because im not entirely sure what is causing the problem ( failure to render, or missing crucial packages) im not sure how I should go about trying to repair. Is there any to restore factory settings and programs without blitzing out current drivers and apps ?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: TV Card Fails To Work After Upgrade From Jaunty

Oct 30, 2010

I upgraded fro Jaunty to Karmic and then to Lucid and my TV card has stopped working. I had been informed that this was a result of the splitting of the linux-firmware into two separate packages, but having installed the linux-firmware-nonfree package the problem persists. The card is a Hauppauge WinTV PCI and although it is properly recognised by commands like lsmod, lspci and in the sound card settings, I can't tune in a single channel. It worked out of the box in Jaunty. Is there anything else that needs to be done to get the nonfree firmware working properly?

Cannot find input plugin for MRL [dvd:/] Is now the message that I get when attempting to play DVDs in Kaffeine, which worked very well in SuSe 10,3 three hours ago. Ironically, VLC now works a treat, when upgrading that in 10.3 killed it.Xine doesn't want to work (restricted format), and Kaffeine isn't playing any files either. Has something been dropped from my previous setup, or do I have an inadequate installation? I'm not very command line oriented I'm afraid;I just expect things to work as they did before...:-)

I recently upgraded to ubuntu 9.10 on my dell d830 ..everything worked great no issues. did my normal mods and packaged updates and the works. this laptop i used at work and home, at work i use a windows 7 vm running ontop of my ubuntu and at home well ubuntu of-coarse. work has a proxy setting and my home network doesnt, so i decided to create two profiles on the system > preferences > network proxy One for home > with direct Internet connect And Another for work for defined proxy settings.

Everything was cool...then the one day when i tried to install graphics card driver, it gave a "cant not resolver proxy " error...i checked my profile and it was on home...i also deleted all profiles and set it to default and it still dont work..firefox works cause you can set proxy setting directly on firefox , but now i cant do any "apt-get" because some how ubuntu is still picking up my work network proxy setting? somehow it like stuck on the work network proxy setting although i delete the profiles too...?
