Ubuntu :: No Internet Connection To Bt Home Hub 2

May 29, 2011

I have downloaded ubuntu 11.04 and the internet does not connect to by bt home hub 2. The computer connects to bt Fon and bt openzone but not to the home hub. It recognises that the home hub is there and accepts the password but then tries to connect and fails. I tried running the trouble shooting help section for wirless on ubuntu and it advised me to go on to a forum as the computer was not fully recognising my network adapter. My wireless connector is intel RJ45.

CentOS 5 Server :: Configure A Mail Server Over A Home Internet Connection?

Feb 12, 2009

I have one server at home, connected through a router that gives me a static IP:192.168.1.2 - My PC192.168.1.3 - CentOS serverI enabled the port 80 into router forwarding system and I can connect properly to CentOS server, using the IP my internet provider gives me. My router automatically forwards a changed IP to my dyndns.com account so I can also access the server through a domain name (I pay to have it linked to one of my domains). My next step is to configure the mail server (dovecot) , so I can send emails from my local server(192.168.1.3).I was wondering if anyone has any tutorial links or tips to have the mail server configured through a home internet provider + home router.

Networking :: Use The Laptop With The Wireless Connection To Share The Internet Connection?

Feb 4, 2010

I have two linux laptops. Currently, I'm using both of them at work, side-by-side. Now the problem is, I'm connected to a wireless router, but the wireless only works on one of the laptops. So I'm stuck with one laptop that has no access to the internet. Both machines do, however, have working ethernet nic cards. So, I was wondering if I could use the laptop with the wireless connection to share the internet connection with my other linux machine and access the internet on both of them. Or as an alternative, just use the internet on the machine without wireless and be able to switch back and forth, that would increase my productivity like 30 fold.

OpenSUSE Network :: Masquerad Internet Using Knetwork Manager - Share The Internet Connection To A Desktop

Jul 5, 2011

OpenSuse 11.4 Asus Netbook 1000H Following other members in the forums I have installed Opensuse 11.4 on the Netbook. In the early days Ubuntu Netbook Remix worked well for me. But this has been discarded, and the "one size fits all" Ubuntu had become slow and cumbersome. So..... onto my post. Opensuse is working well. The install went beautifully.

It detected the Wireless Internet and I am able to get on line. I also need to share the Internet connection to a desktop. This is done via a small network switch. Thus far I cannot do this. I tried to use ifup to configure a static ip but this busted my Wireless configuration. I went back to knetwork manager. Then I tried to set up the wired network using knetwork manager and under IPV4 "share" the connection. But this blanks out any possiblity of a static address and substitutes dhcp. My desktop cannot ping the this dhcp address. Ubuntu had this thing called Firestarter? - from memory. This configured the system to sharing the network.

Ubuntu Networking :: Internet Connection: 'Work Offline' - "No Network Connection"

Oct 31, 2010

I have the "Work Offline" problem: when I boot up, the icon on the toolbar tells me I have "No network connection". This is not quite true, since I can access the first page of any website - only subsequent pages are inaccessible. I get a message saying that Firefox is offline. However, when I uncheck "Work Offline" in the File menu, it makes no difference to this behavior.

The problem is on my Ubuntu Dell desktop, which is connected to the internet with cable broadband via a D-Link router (wired connection). It has worked fine up till now. I use Ubuntu 10.04 and Firefox 3.6.11. I am writing this on my Ubuntu Dell laptop which is wired to the same router, so I assume the problem is not the router. I have tried various strategies suggested in threads on these forums, including editing about:config, changing "allow" to "deny" in some lines of /etc/dbus-1/system.d/NetworkManager.conf and changing from Automatic (DHCP) to Automatic (DHCP) Addresses only, but no luck so far. The contents of ifconfig are:

eth0
Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 001:aa0:91:a7:51
UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets: 0 errors: 0 dropped: 0 overruns: 0 carrier: 0
collisons: 0 txqueulen: 1000
RX bytes: 0 (0.0 B) TX bytes: 0 (0.0 B)
[Code]...

If I comment out "auto eth0" as well, it makes no difference. If I uncomment both lines ("auto eth0" and "iface eth0 inet dhcp") then I lose the internet connection altogether.

My question is what IP address do I use to connect to it when I am outside of my home network. Do I use the one my ISP gave me? And how do I figure out what that is? Could my ISP be using NAT that could be messing things up for me? Could there any other configurations that I need to perform ? Also do ISP's frown upon home ftp servers? (USA)

Ubuntu Networking :: How Can I Share Ipv6 Connection To Home Network

Jul 25, 2010

I'm using Internet connection through local network, receiving white (global) IP, route, DNS with local DHCP server. Lately I noticed that my Ubuntu gets ipv6 autoconfiguration from ISP router, receiving global ipv6 address and automatically adding ipv6 route. I can access Internet resources using ipv6 connection:
I can ping inet resources using my ipv6 global address and access, for example, ipv6.google.com or URL..

How can I share ipv6 connection to my home network? Using ipv4 it's easy, I just can use NAT for this. But if I understand correctly, in ipv6 there isn't such thing as NAT, because there is no limit in ip addresses.

Ping fails when I try to ping the router? No access from FF either.

I'm stuck thinking of what could be blocking it?

Firewall has http https as trusted services.

Not sure about trusted interfaces and masquerading? Should my eth0 be enabled for either of these?

Edit: Now I am unable to connect to the network. When I click the network icon in the taskbar, my home network is not visible while it is visible under another ubuntu computer I'm running.

Ubuntu Networking :: Connects To Internet But Not To Home Network?

Aug 25, 2010

I installed Ubuntu 10.04 32-bit on an old desktop (1.5ghz Pentium 4, 20GB hard drive, 768MB RAM) a week or two ago, at the same time that I installed Xubuntu 10.04 on an even lower performance IBM tower server. The server functions perfectly and my other (Windows XP) desktop recognized it from the start, as did the Ubuntu desktop. However, I rearranged a few ethernet cables the other day without turning off the desktops and ever since my Ubuntu machine does not recognize my server, even though all of the devices are connected via ethernet cable to a linksys router and it connects to the internet without a problem. I'm a linux newbie - this is my first move away from Windows - and I don't know where to turn. Far more confusing is the fact that, when I boot from a LiveCD, the network is recognized and I can read/manipulate files on my server without a problem. Oh, and I briefly flirted with OpenSUSE KDE (not as noob-friendly as Ubuntu, so I'm back) and encountered the same problem.

Needless to say, booting from the hard drive is preferable to booting from CD every time

Fedora :: Could Not Look Up Internet Address For Home

I get the following error when starting Xfce:

"Could not look up internet address for home. This will prevent Xfce from operating correctly.mIt may be possible to correct the problem by adding home to the file /etc/hosts on your system."

It ask me whether I want to try again or continue, I always select the latter and it doesn't give me any problems: I can still access the Internet. I don't get this error on Gnome or LDXE . What does it mean by adding home to /etc/hosts?

Here's the contents of /etc/hosts

Code:

::1localhost6.localdomain6 localhost6

I'm using Fedora 12, upgraded from 11 live CD install with Gnome as the default desktop. I've just installed Xfce recently, after the upgrade.
