View 1 Replies View RelatedFrom my office and home, I can access a web service, no problem. However, from my server at the data center, I cannot. Could this be a DNS issue? I've tried with iptables enabled and disabled. selinux is disabled. This server has multiple network interfaces, one public and two private. The public has a WAN IP address (1.1.1.1), the private is 10.1.10.2 and the other private is connected via crossover cable to another server 192.168.100.1. I think route -n tells me the WAN interface is used to access the internet, as its gateway is my ISP's upstream gateway. CentOS 5.5.

I'm sure both username and password are exactly right. But I can not access the folder. View 6 Replies View RelatedEverything was working well between my Windows 7 shares and all three of my Ubuntu machines. I just replaced my buggy belkin router with a Netgear one and now none of the Ubuntu machines can open my windows box through Nautilus. All three (one 10.04, 2 10.10) can see the Windows box but when I click on it I get the never ending password prompts. My Mac can access the Windows 7 machine fine, and all three Ubuntu boxes can access the shares with CIFS/autofs. I just can't browse the available shares using Places->Network. I'm lead to believe something on Win 7 reset when I changed the router but after two days I'm at a loss as to what it could be.

She had started out with Ubutnu 9.04, which was giving her a lot of Issues along with being no longer supported, so I recommend Linux Mint 10 to her, since she wanted something closer to Windows. I instructed her on how to do a clean install. Linux Mint installed ok, but when she was about to set up wireless to get on the Internet, she realised that she had forgotten her password. She called her network (Belkin) for assistance to retrieve it. She was told that Linux is not really supported; however they gave her this address to access the router: 192.186.2.1 from her browser which did not work. So there was nothing further they could have done since she couldn't gain access to the router. She is currently only able to use Ethernet connection to get online.
What could she do to reset her password or gain access to the router? I didn't want to tell her to reset the modem in case it will leave her with no internet and no way to setup her router.

I have an intranet server behind a NAT router. Very standard linksys router home setup. The server has a static IP. I used port forwarding in the router to use SSH and log into the server remotely - it works OK.
I want no one outside my home network to access any webpages on the server unless they're authenticated.. I know I could port forward like with ssh but with http port 80 and then see webpages , but again this would open it up to anyone with my cable modem's IP - wouldn't it?
I need a secure way like SSH that requires a password before anyone could access port 80 and http from the server from a remote network.
How do I do this? And on the local network people can get served pages normally as usual. Just remote would need authentication. Must be commonly done(?)
My question is probably very common, but I didn't find an answer.I have several computers, each with different user. Each user has a shared folder in samba. I want all users to access all these shares with a single login/password (not with the login/passw of each particular user)

I've got a wireless router with a WEP security, when I choose my connection and put in the key it just tries for some time and then ask me again for the WEP key. And it goes like this on and on and on, I've tried to connect at some firends gome with the same kind of connection and it doesn't work either.
I think that in an older version I did connect to an unprotected connection but I cannot take out the protection because it is my roomsmate wifi.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.4 Netbook Remix on a Dell Mini Netbook 9 (I think that's what it is.) I used to be able to connect to my wireless internet fine, but then my brother put a password on it. Installed without a hitch, picked up all the hardware even my Edimax 712g nic. entered wireless network details and was off. Enjoying the new look and feel of the OS surfing, mailing and connecting to my win 7 laptop for my music shares. We then had visitors round so shut down, and went back to it this morning, only to find that a couple of things had changed.
(1) no matter what I do (Followed several different suggestions found on here) and no matter how many times I check all the details, It will not connect, to the router just carries on seemingly without end trying; only broken by the requests for the security key of the router.
(2) the keyring password is not recognised.
I thought I may have done something I didn't realise, so I simply did a reinstall, everything exactly the same, and just replicate the problem I perfromed a restart; ending up with exactly the same result.
I have saved a wireless password on my ubuntu 10.10 and I connect to it everyday. The other day I wanted to pass it to my friend to use the connection but I couldn't find the saved password. So I checked some forums and I realized it should be possible to find the saved passwords under Systerm > Preferences > Passwords and encryption keys. Although I can only see one of my saved passwords, the other one is missing.

Running 10.10 on Hp dv2000. Approx once a day wireless asks for password authentication but cannot re-connect to wireless network. I verified connection, correct password and modem & router functionality but still will not re-connect. After re-boot problem is resolved for another day or two.

A window then comes up asking me to "enter password for Keyring default". After having then entered this password the connection does take place and remain stable. So really no big deal but why do I need to do this every time I boot up. This is new to me. Never had anything like this on previous versions.

I have an Asus K60 laptop with the Athlon chipset. I had wireless working just fine under Lucid. But after upgrading to Meerkat, I can't get my password to be recognized. The router connection is seen without any difficulty, but the WPA password is rejected every time. I've rechecked it, of course, and also checked that it works in the Windows partition on the same machine. I'm using wicd and madwifi, recompiled for the -35 kernel. Is there a way i can setup my computer so i can connect to my wireless network without the use of an admin password? i personally feel that it wouldn't be a security risk of any sort to not require a password to connect to an ecrypted wireless connection.

I've changed it a number of times through the GUI that pops up (Wireless Network Authentication Required) and also through the Edit Connections GUI but they always revert back to the old password and disregard the new one.
