Ubuntu :: Multiport Serial Support (Bug 125524) On Lucid 10.04?

Mar 13, 2011

can I bother you with the ever ongoing story on Bug 125524 ?What would be your advice for someone like me with intermediate level of understanding Linux only : I would like to make the "8250.nr_uarts=6" boot option permanent with Kernel <= 2.6.32-29 on LUCID 10.04 .And, sadly, compiling the kernel => 2.6.37-7 did not work for me

CentOS 5 Hardware :: 5.5 - Does Currently Not Support Oxford's OXPCIe952-F Serial Controller Chip

Jan 27, 2011

Is it possible that CentOS 5.5 does currently not support Oxford's OXPCIe952-F serial controller chip? We've added one of those PCIe x1 cards to one of our servers since we need additional serial interfaces but it doesn't seem to work. Instead of three serial ports (the server comes with one already, the controller adds two more) we still only have ttyS0:

Quote:

root/linux2$ zgrep ttyS /var/log/*
/var/log/dmesg:serial8250: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
/var/log/dmesg:00:08: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A

Ubuntu Networking :: Hardware Not Detected - Solos Multiport PCI ADSL2+ Modem (4-port)?

Oct 22, 2010

I've just installed Zentyal (formally eBox) which is a firewall built on Ubuntu server 10.04. Unfortunately my PCI modem is not automatically detected upon installation and the Zentyal community forum is not very active. Is it possible to get the 4-port Solos Multiport PCI ADSL2+ Modem card from Traverse Technologies working under Zentyal?Apparently the driver is included in kernel versions 2.6.29 and later so I was surprised that it was not automatically detected and working upon installation. It is also available from Zentyal was able to detect their single port card, the Vicking PCIADSL2+ttp://www.traverse.com.au/productvi...product_id=115). This card worked out-the-box - all I had to do was enter my static IP details! Is there any way to achieve the same functionality with the Solos 4 port?

Ubuntu :: Serial MIDI - Doesn't See Any Serial Ports?

Jun 21, 2011

I have a bit of a dilemma. I'm attempting to use a microcontroller to send MIDI messages over a virtual serial port. I want to (eventually) read them with Mixxx. I'm using an FTDI chip, so I get a /dev/ttyUSB0. I've tried spikenzielabs' Serial-Midi program, but it doesn't see any serial ports. NOTEMIDI looks really old and won't compile on my 10.04 LTS machine.

General :: Windows With Putty Via USB Serial Cable To Serial Port - Output Ok, Input Isn't?

Jan 13, 2010

I am trying to get two way serial communications going between a Windows XP system and a Linux system (RHEL 5).I have /sbin/agetty -L 9600 ttyS0

in /etc/inittab. I am using a generic USB to serial adaptor on Windows (Unitek) and a null modem cable. I have putty configured for 9600 baud, 8 bits, no parity, one stop bit, no flow control.I get the login prompt from agetty in the putty window but input does not work; I see weird characters in the putty screen. I can echo output into the device from windows and see it, but

cat < /dev/ttyS0. just prints out weird characters from what I type.

CentOS 5 Hardware :: NetMOS PCI 9835 Dual Serial Card - Can't Use The Serial Ports

Feb 21, 2009

On my CentOS 5.2 install I've installed a dual-port serial card based on the NetMOS 9835 chipset. I've followed the serial instructions, but everything they tell me to do is already done - see setserial outputs below. I've compared these values to the lspci output (below, NetMos card is at the bottom of the output) for the card and it appears right. Problem being, I can't use the serial ports. Oh and I did use search, and looked at every 9835-related article before posting this :)

Debian Hardware :: How To Get Old Serial-touchscreen To Work With USB / Serial Adapter

Oct 9, 2015

I am hoping to be able to get an old serial-touchscreen to work with a usb/serial adapter. I had this touchscreen working some years ago on different hardware. I would like to hook it to the machine I am setting up as a multimedia host with mythtv among other things.

Following the instructions I left behind when I got this to work way back when does not work. See [URL] ....

This info is a work around to get the xserver to see the touchscreen. [URL] ....

I do know that the touchscreen works as I am able to get garbage on the screen as in the first part of my howto. But I have not had any success getting xorg to see it. I wish I had posted a copy of the xorg.conf at the time, but......

There is an issue with the current xserver in testing that I am hoping the next update (in unstable) will fix when it gets pushed to testing. That is that Code: Select all# X -configure fails with a segfault. So I am not able to generate the xorg.conf needed to get it to work. I was going to post a bugreport, that is when I found out there is an update in unstable, so I am waiting for it to get pushed at the moment.

Anyway I am hoping that I can link /dev/ttyUSB0 to /dev/tty0 and get it to work. I would like some kind of guess as to my chances of success before I go to all the work of getting the monitor hooked to the host.

Server :: Driver Support - QME2572 - Qlogic - Card Became Support By The Kernel

Jul 10, 2011

I'm trying to find out when QME2572 (Qlogic) card became support by the kernel. We have a RHEL 5.1 system that is moving to new hardware, however the kernel at this release doesn't support the new hardware, due to the Qlogic card change. I tired the Redhat KB and Bugzilla. Is there a Kernel change list etc I can search. Never really played around with the kernel too much so I'm just after some pointers for looking up this information. Offically its not supported until Redhat 5.3, I'm trying trying to research kernel info so I can tell the customer they have to upgrade.

Debian :: EXFAT Support Vs NTFS Support ?

Aug 25, 2010

I'm looking to dual-boot Windows 7 and Debian 6 upon its release on my sister's laptop. I want to share a partition between the two of them so that /home points to this directory and the Windows equivalent also points to it (C:Users).

Anyway, I've heard good and bad things about the NTFSMount driver (I think it's NTFS-3G now) and the NTFSprogs project and so I am not so certain what I should believe. I do know that NTFS has relatively high overhead, though I do not recall the source of this assertion, so I am considering the use of EXFAT. An open source EXFAT project is hosted on Google Code at [url] and it utilizes the kernel module FUSE.

I'm quite certain that I've got everything covered on the Windows side -- that is, I know that both NTFS and EXFAT will be suitable filesystems for my required usage.

My issue is that I'm curious which will have superior performance and stability in Debian. I planned on building the package from source and mounting the device in my FSTAB but I have also found a PPA for Ubuntu on Launchpad at [url] that I could borrow the debian/rules from and make a .deb package from.

What do you guys think? Should I go at it with the EXFAT or NTFS partitioning? Is NTFS-3G actually fairly supported at this point? Or perhaps should I consider some alternate method?

I have also considered that the only files she will be sharing are those of music, videos, and pictures so it could be better to just link /home/xxxx/Pictures (Music and Videos, too) to the new partition instead of all of /home.

Ubuntu Installation :: How To Use A Serial Mouse

I'm having ongoing problems with my Ubuntu installation(s) almost to the point that each addition causes new problems. The latest, continual problem is periodically the computer is being used and abruptly hangs with a blank screen. Though I believe the error is associated with my having an undefined ServerName for LAMP development server. I've decided to do a fresh install with all the options included and see what happens. I need some assistance in developing an install CD/DVD which has all the packages (and configurations) that I need.
