Ubuntu Multimedia :: `mount' Shows The Camera Never Gets Automounted?

Jul 20, 2011

I have an Olympus D-560 ZOOM. I used to be able to download pictures from the camera with: SuSE, Fedora, early Ubuntu, etc. (I still can mount and download from my camera on these systems.) I now have Ubuntu 10.04LTS and no longer is my camera recognised. I cannot make sense of the forum threads on this topic, dating back to Ubuntu 8.0-something, that generally ramble on for endless pages without reaching a sensible conclusion (it's a bug, it's not a bug, it's because of gphoto2, it's a gvfs problem, etc.). So maybe there is a definitive answer why my camera that works on other linux will not work on Ubuntu, and maybe by now there is a real fix that does not involve me rebooting my laptop into an old linux distro.

`mount' shows the camera never gets automounted. Manually `mount /dev/sdb1 /media/camera' sometimes hangs and never completes, or sometimes answers immediately `mount: /dev/sdb1 is not a valid block device'. Output in /var/log is below. What's going on, and how can I fix it? I do not use, and I do not want to use, fstop, gphoto, gimp or any other specific software to access my camera (I have tried to download using these anyway and nothing works), I just want to mount the camera as though it were a flash drive in the same manner I have always done. Remember, this does not happen on other distros or early Ubuntu. Here is the relevant output notations in /var/log/messages and /var/log/syslog.

Ubuntu :: Permissions Of Mount Points For Automounted Devices

Jan 14, 2010

Ubuntu 9.10. I have a problem - when I mount other partitions of my hdd or the system automounts usb disks these are mounted in /media directory with permissions 0700. So there are two problems there:
- When I switch user on my desktop to another that user can't read data from the usb disks
- I can't share data through network because smbd doesnot have read permissions on the created mount points

I think editing /etc/fstab is wrong way, there would be more right way to change permissions on mount point. I tried to change/add parameters umask, allow_other in gconf-editor (/system/storage/default_options, subsections vfat and ntfs-3g) but that does not show any results. Article [URL] recommends Open Places → Computer. Every volume except the generic File system one should have a Drive and Volume tab in its properties dialog where you can set mount options. But I did not find those tabs. Where should I set option to mount usb disks with permissions rwx for every user of my system?

Debian Multimedia :: SD Card In Canon Camera - USB Mount Disconnected

Nov 22, 2010

I'm trying to get some photos off a Canon Powershot SX110IS that uses an SD card (right now there is a Gigaware 4GB one in it) but this computer does not have an SD card input, so I am trying to mount the device through USB. This has worked with a handful of other cameras I've used in the past.

When I connect the camera to the computer and power it on, I get
usb 1-5: USB disconnect, address 7
usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 8
usb 1-5: New USB device found, idVendor=04a9, idProduct=3192
usb 1-5: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
usb 1-5: Product: Canon Digital Camera
usb 1-5: Manufacturer: Canon Inc.
usb 1-5: SerialNumber: DA9C3D5C2D7F4E3EA806AA70BCDF3E28
So the kernel is at least aware of it. I tried letting thunar mount it, but it complains
thunar-volman: No property info.capabilities on device with
id /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_4a9_3192_DA9C3D5C2D7F4E3EA806AA70BCDF3E28.

I also tried letting dolphin automount it (yuck), but didn't get any messages about it. I checked the fdisk output and there was no ~4GB device, so I'm not sure that I can mount it manually.

Loaded modules:
asus_atk0110
ata_generic
ata_piix

Ubuntu :: USB Digital Camera Static Mount Position

Dec 14, 2010

I have digital camera (Canon EOS 550d) which I connect to my computer using a USB cable. I can see that the camera file system is mounted under "~/.gvfs/gphoto2-XYZ" where XYZ seems to be a dynamic device dependent string that changes every time I connect the camera. The thing is: I need the mount position ALWAYS to stay the same, so my photo management program (Bibble) knows where to download the images from.I am not sure how to do this, but I guess there must be a way to configure GVFS/FUSE or whatever is responsible for mounting the camera to use a fixed mount point (like /media/camera or something).

General :: Get Camera Not To Mount As A Filesystem On Connection?

Jul 11, 2011

I have an old Intel webcam that doubles as a standalone digital camera. When I plug it in, Fedora automatically mounts the memory for the camera as a filesystem. However, because it is old and clunky, if I try to use its webcam functionality after this happens, it crashes internally and nothing ever happens.Even if I unmount the memory, still remains "crashed".I know that if the memory was never accessed, the webcam would work, as this is how it is on Windows, and also how it was in a previous release of Fedora, which didn't automount

I'm trying to get photos off my Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS but while Device Notifier pops up telling me I've attached a canon, and I can see it when I run lsusb, It's not actually being mounted anywhere, or creating a device for itself to be mounted with..I plug the camera in to the computer while it's still off, and I turn it off again before disconnecting (As I've heard this is the proper way to do this.) but I am still not getting a device. I've also tried the following advice (Although I'm obviously on openSUSE not Ubuntu).Ubuntu Forums - View Single Post - Unable to mount camera or import digital pictures.

Ubuntu Networking :: NFS Mount Shows Multiple Times In The Places?

Mar 23, 2011

I have the follwoing fenomenan. In my /etc/fstab I have an entry to automatically mount my NAS. Here is my entry:

192.168.1.10:/mnt/array1/My_NAS /media/My40NAS nfs _netdev,
auto,rw,hard,users,intr 0 0

When my laptop boots it successfully mounts the NFS NAS and I get an icon "My NAS" on my dekstop that points to the NAS. If I double click on the icon it opens my file browser and I can browse thru my NAS fodlers.

What I see on the left hand side of the file browser is that I have to entries for My NAS. One of it has a button to shows that it is mounted and the other does not.

If I go to Places I also see 2 entries for "My NAS". One of it takes me to browsing the NAS and if I click on the other it says "Unable to mount ... busy or already mounted". Which makes sense.

Red Hat / Fedora :: FDISK / When Mount The Partition It's Shows As Only 50G?

Mar 27, 2009

I have a secondary 250GB disk of which I created a 50G partition on to try and set-up an LFS system. I finished with the LFS system and now I want to destroy the partition and reclaim all of the 250GB. So i simply ran fdisk /dev/sdb and deleted the 2 Linux partitions ( one 83 and one swap). I then created a new partition as primary partition #1. fdisk appears to see the entire disk....I'm able to start at cylinder 1 and end at 30401 which is 250GB, however when i mount the partition it's shows as only 50G.....What the hell is going on here???

Networking :: Nfs Mount At Boot Shows As Mounted But Is Not

Nov 17, 2010

I setup my client to mount some nfs mounts at boot but although they seem to be mounted, they are not! Before I give the details, I'll start by saying this is not a wifi problem. I'm using a good old wired connection. The server runs NFS3 with the following line in '/etc/exports':

[Code]...

I have tried the following nfs options in the fstab as you might have noted above: _netdev,auto,bg,retry=10. None of them seem to fix the problem. I realise a quick hack at boot time would fix this in an instant but I'd like to figure out why this is failing.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Copy Files To Camera Via USB?

I tried to mount the camera using 'gksu nautilus', but the camera didn't show up in the side panel. Unfortunately I don't know how to mount the camera from the command line, so I'm stuck.

PS: the only available card reader doesn't recognize SDHC cards, so that's not an option. And no, I won't boot Windows for that task.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: IP Camera Video Streaming

Apr 6, 2010

My local priest has asked me if I can use my computer skills to stream church services live for people who can't make it to church.I said, sure thing! I thought it would be simple, but the deeper I look into it, the more lost I have become! Here's the tech requirements:

- A camera with good optical zoom and focused on the altar (the camera will be stationed at an unobtrusive point at the back of the church on the choir balcony)
- Everything must be wireless (power is available on choir balcony to power the camera).
- Sound should be synchronised perfectly with the video (have access to the church PA system - located behind altar)
- the internet connection should be able to upload the stream to a virtual server (i.e. with root access) that's accessible to the web with ease. What upload speed would I need? Would 256k be enough? HD video is not required - ..... quality would be great. We can upgrade to HD at a later point in time!
- What bandwidth requirement would my server need if say 1000 users were connected? Seeing as they would most likely be locals, would just one stream be sent to the local exchange and that exchange would send out the stream to the 1,000 users, or would each user have to have a dedicated connection to the server?
- Say I bought a camcorder with HDMI output, what kind of processing power would I need to convert this to compressed video? (I've got an old Pentium 4 and an AMD64 2.0GHz lying idle in my bedroom and it would be great to make use of 'em instead of chucking 'em on the skip)
- I'd like all this to be done so that HTML5 browsers can access the video, resorting to flash if necessary
- I'd also like to be able to power down all the hardware with ease: i.e. set a timer. I'm sure ubuntu can do this with ease? What about configuring the camera to zoom in every time it is powered on? Can linux control the zoom on a camcorder?
- Am I totally nuts?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Changing Resolution For Usb Camera?

May 22, 2010

I've been having a fit with Ubuntu (even tried updating to the new version). I have a USB camera (1.3mp- 1024x768 ) that I need to observe and capture images with (microphotography). I've downloaded and installed multiple packages, but have not found any way to change the default resolutions for V4l2. The resolution closest to what I need is 1024x816, but the video is torn and unusable. One program, Kamoso, worked fine in 640x480 mode, but as soon as I upgraded to Ubuntu 10, it went to the higher resolution (1024x816) which doesn't work right.

Is there some way to force v4l2 into a 1024x768 mode? The camera is a Tucsen 1.3mp microscope camera. I've emailed the company for more information and to see if they would email me the software/drivers (I lost the driver disk in a fire), but nothing so far from them.

The programs I've installed and tried: Camorama, Kamoso, Xsane, Cheese, VLC media player, v4l2ctrl, v4l2ucp, v4lctl, v4l-info. Camorama doesn't work, Kamoso- you couldn't change resolutions (ditto for Xsane), Cheese - I can change resolutions, but they have these crazy values that don't work, VLC media I cannot change either. I'm supposed to be able to use v4l2ucp to change settings, but I don't get the screen that the preview for the program (in Ubuntu Software) showed.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Camera Could Not Claim USB Device?

How do I find out what module has claimed the camera, and permanently remove it or prevent it from ever doing so again? Is there some method of telling gphoto2 (or any other camera-handling program) to stamp all over anything else that has laid claim to a device and brute-force its way?

Fedora :: Boot Partition Was Not Being Automounted After Booting Into 13?

May 15, 2011

boot partition was not being automounted after booting into Fedora 13, yet I was still installing updates, including kernel updates. What has ended up happening is I have old kernels (from removed/outdated packages) that still live in my boot partition, and the new kernels (from my updates) live on the root filesystem under the /boot directory. So when I reboot, grub only sees the old kernels. To demonstrate this, here are some lists. These are the contents of my actual boot partition (grub sees these):
