I've got a headset with a microphone plugged in, but not recognized by KDE's mixer.

but not in the mixer under Capture Devices. Is there an easy way to get either the notebook's built-in mic or the headset mic to start?
I have a Logitech clearchat pro usb headset and it works really well. However every time I plug it in I have to turn up its volume in alsa mixer. Also so that the right volume slider is controlled (by the volume keys) I have to change the output in pavucontrol. Does anyone know of a way that I can make this happen on its own? I guessed writing a udev rule might work (not that I have ever done one), but I don't know the commands that are equivalent to what I do.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using a MSI GX630 Laptop with Xubuntu 11.04 installed. I am attempting to use a logitech H230 headset (here) which works fine on other computers running windows but is now not working in Xubuntu.
when plugged in, the headphone work, but skype does not record any sound from the microphone.
I am happy to provide any additional information I can, hopefully someone can help me.

The microphone works, but is at a fixed level and always with annoying playback through the speakers. I cannot change the recording level as there is no mixer control.

After that I can choose a device in skype, but the mixer does not work anymore. There is a way to have a working mixer without pulseaudio package or a way to choose audio devices in skype with pulseaudio installed?!
Have you ever bought an external soundcard that is working with your distro? I am looking for an external soundcard for using with skype (microphone and headset must be working). Do you have one? which one? and which distro do you use? HAve u tested microphone with that soundcard?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I started using Slackware I've been using USB headset. Everything ran perfectly fine. They got recognized, I could use all of it's functions and so on. Unfortunately volume control on them stopped working so I had to service them, and like in every third world country, yay I need to wait minimum three weeks just so they can press a button and say "Yup, they don't work".
I bought normal headset to use them while other one is getting fixed, and didn't expect any problems with them considering they are "old" technology, normal audio input and output.
Now problem is following, sound works fine but microphone doesn't. Once I managed to "fix" it by switching audio input from mic to something else and then back to mic, now even that doesn't work. Another... "problem" is if I leave my USB webcam plugged in while booting computer, there is no sound at all, ether on line ones or USB ones but I can easily solve that problem by unplugging webcam, rebooting and plugging it back in later.
Now everything ran fine until my computer shutdown while I was sleeping. Don't know why, but it started happening recently, don't see anything smart in logs so I assume its... something, read it could be cache, HDD, temperature and so on but since logs don't write down anything smart... will deal with it some other time.
When I talk I can actually hear myself on the headset, which probably means that they work. If I put mic boost all the way up, I can hear myself perfectly clear, but somehow... seems that that information just doesn't get to Slackware, well it gets somewhat considering that it reacts to me adjusting mic boost on KMix, but everything else... no.
Arecord doesn't record anything, TS register as microphone isn't plugged in at all, skype doesn't get any input ether.

My Logitech USB headset has been with me for *years* (since Fedora 10 and before, when I used to use Windows XP!) and it was always fine, but since I updated to Fedora 14 I can hear my own voice, really loudly, whenever I plug it in. I never had this problem before, I've ignored it for a while, but now it's starting to p*** me off. I can't listen to music without hearing myself breathing in the background! Really annoying...
how to fix this? I suspect it's a PulseAudio problem, but haven't been able to click my way around it...
I"m running an online radio station and would like to run my headphone audio into my microphone or a virtual microphone, either way, I would like my audience to hear what I hear without having to hold the Mic to the speakers.

I've been trying to make my microphone work and so I've pretty much messed around with the mixer (KMixer), mainly adding channels to the "equalizer" and checking and clearing "capture" boxes. After I did that my sound "disappeared" - I have no sound whatsoever (not even Kubuntu's initialization sound).
How can I fix this? Is it possible to go back to the "default" configuration?

I have the very latest release of Ubuntu. I read where the gentlemen claims that [URL]... is the reason he was able to start using his alesis mixer. I'm just letting everyone know that I am going to try this. When I'm done I'll let you know if it works.

I removed Brasero, Listen and Sound Recorder. I use xfBurn, Banshee and Audacity. now I notice today that I am missing the mixer control that I had like so much. still have xfce4-mixer, but all the controls have been reset. and I can't get it to minimize/close to the notification area

When I first did this it gave me a error about not being able to put the sound on-top of 'pulseaudio'. Well this well about the last straw between me and Mr. 'PulseAudio', so away he went. I then tried connecting to my bluetooth headset again, no errors. But the bluetooth sound device does not show up in any mixer, or application. What else do I need to do to get this working again. I know my hardware is fine, it used to work in the previous version of Ubuntu and it all works on my wifes Windoze XP computer.
I gotta say that Ubuntu 9.10 is a fantastic OS. I've been dual booting for about 4 years with Ubuntu and I want to scream to the world that Linux is finally a better OS than Mac or Windows. Having said that, I have an issue that I can't get around...
For some reason my USB headset is not being detected. I'm using the 32 bit version of Ubuntu 9.10 on a run-of-the-mill Intel-based desktop rig that I built myself. One of the mass-market programs that I still use is Skype so I can voice chat with friends and family - however, since the upgrade to 9.10 I can't get the mic to work (Plantronics USB headset - headset speakers work fine). The reason I can't get it to work is because the headset is not detected. The audio setting is set to "Analog Stereo Output" by default which does work perfectly in every other way.
So I'm trying to get my usb headset to work. Right now I can adjust the volume and mute using the buttons on the headset, but I can't get sound toplay through it or the microphone to work.When I go to System --> Preferences --> Sound I can see that there is a driver "USB PnP Sound Device" under the "Hardware" tab. When I go to the output tab and click on the "USB PnP Sound Device" then I just can't hear anything at all. I can adjust the volume with my headset regardless of whether I have "Internal Audio Analog Stereo" or "USB PnP Sound Device

I type Alsa Mixer, it says Usage: /sbin/alsa {unload|reload|force-unload|force-reload|suspend|resume}
Anyone know a way to open A.M. that it will.
ALSA mixer resets my speaker volume to zero and changes my USB headset volume to a very low level. How can I get ALSA Mixer to remember my volume settings from last boot or if there's no other option, a way I can make it adjust the levels to a predetermined level automatically on startup. I'm using 10.10 with pulseaudio.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI notice that each time I boot my computer, under the playback section of the ALSA Mixer the 'Speaker' volume control is turned all the way down. Even when I return it to the proper level, and then restart my computer later, the slider for 'Speaker' seems to default back to the previous state mentioned above. Is there a way to set the default for the ALSA mixer in a .conf file of some sort so that the default setting for 'Speaker' is always at max?

The problem is that volume of the device is very low and I can't hear the music or any sound like I use to heard. Even if I increase the volume up to 100%, I still hearing the sound with a very low volume. But if I use the analog output of my sound card I can hear very well. I remember that i used to have this problem in ubuntu 9.10 but I fixed with a script that I found it in this forum, but I can't find it again.

Hi, I have a Creative HS-1200 headset. When I am listening to sound through it, and something makes a motion on screen(compiz, movie...really anything) then the sound is distorted. Like it takes a nanosecond pauses to redraw. This does not happen with my normal soundcard. Can anyone tell me how can I fix this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just bought a USB gigaware headset, and I have been trying to get them to work on my laptop, which has Ubuntu 9.10.
Unfortunately, they do not appear to be recognized almost anywhere, the only place where I have been able to find a reference to them was by using dmesg.
It was working just fine with 9.10. After upgrading to 10.0.0.4 I' m getting a very low output, almost inaudible.

I have a Microsoft LX-3000 USB headset that has been working fine for me on all of my Ubuntu machines... until today. I accidentally clicked on "Hibernate" instead of "Shut Down" on my Lucid laptop this morning, and something seemed a little off about the hibernation process, although I don't remember exactly what happened. Anyway, since I woke this machine up, I can't get sound out of the headset. I've plugged it into multiple USB ports and can still use the microphone and the volume controls just fine, but there's no output. (Yes, I've made sure the device is enabled for output in my sound preferences).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Sony Ericsson HBH-PV700 bluetooth headset that came packaged with a Sony Ericsson K510i phone.I was hoping to be able to use it under Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat as a headset and POSSIBLY as a microphone...I don't think it supports a2dp, so maybe this is a waste of effort. The Bluetooth adapter I'm using is Bluetooth 2.0 compilant, as far as I know. (It may be 1.2, but there's no way it's 1.1 compilant).
I have paired it with my PC and tried finding it as output and input in the Sound Preferences...no option. There's nothing in [System > Preferences > Multimedia Systems Selector] either! I have also tried the instructions at the Ubuntu Community Help Pages for Bluetooth Headset. However, my system fails to initialise the module-alsa-sink and module-alsa-source via the pactl command .I don't even know if it is possible with this device, but I'm willing to give anything a try! P.S. I'm not comfortable with installing a ton of packages just for one thing, but if there's no other option it's fine, I guess.
My new laptop running on I5 and Medion E6221 model and Ubuntu 11.04 is finding trouble in starting the volume on headset once the 3.5mm plug of headset is jacked in. The sound still plays from speakers.
